mPACT Mobile Design Brief

The client needs a mobile app called mPACT to allow oil and gas field technicians to input data from well sites. The app needs to work on both iOS and Android. The summary needs to provide initial comps for 5 screens by the end of the week and complete compositions for the full app by mid-September. Feedback is needed on the current iOS designs and recommendations for Android native UI best practices. The target users are male workers aged 20-50 who will use the app in dusty, sunny environments.

mPACT Mobile Design

Brief
Client Description
The client is Imperative Chemical Partners (ICP). They are an Oil and Gas service
provider in Texas that make sure the oil wells are clean and operational and that the oil
pipes are not contaminated or corroded. They treat these wells and pipes with special
chemicals to ensure both long-term use and environmental protection.

Application Description
The purpose of this application (mPACT) is to collect input data from Oil and Gas drivers
and field technicians when they are monitoring or servicing oil sites (wells and pipes).

They will be inputting data like well readings, chemical test results, treatment plans,
requests for service, and more via the mobile application.

They will also need to access information like: maps, routes, previous chemical results,
and treatment plans via the app.

Project Objective
We need to ensure that our mobile application (mPACT) is flexible for both iOS and
Android devices. From a UI perspective, we are looking for your expertise to review the
current iOS designs to see if they are in-line with modern iOS UI best practices. We
would like to build this UI to be use for the next 3 years.

Additionally, we need your expertise to make recommendations as to what Android

native UI best practices need to be implemented for ease of use and synergy within the
Android operating system.

Project Timeline
We would like to see initial comps by the end of the week for at least 5 screens. We
would like to complete the whole application’s compositions by mid-September.

Target Audience / Demographics
Male demographic between 20 and 50 years old. They operate this mobile device is
rural environments that have a lot of dust and sunlight. We need to ensure that the UI
is accommodating for “fat fingers” (big fingers on a tiny screen) and that the font or
buttons aren’t too small where they will constantly need to zoom in to read. Contrast
needs to be considered as well, since there will be sun glares on the phone screen.

Platform / Device / Browsers / Software

● iOS
○ iPhone 10 and up
■ We understand that iOS 17 will be support iPhone 10s - please
keeps this in mind when reviewing the UI
● Android
○ Device and models - unknown at the moment

Technical Considerations
The application is written in Flutter so that we would have flexibility for adaption for
both iOS and Android use.
