3. Given the interventions provided by people in the video, why do you think community
action is important?
Man/woman does not live alone or in isolation, he/she must live in a community.
Community action is important because it helps to form communities for the good
of a greater multitude. It promotes social well being of the people. Looking on the
video presentation, community action is not just for fun that lasts only for days
but it goes beyond the fun it brings. Above all, it aims for a goal that puts the
common good in priority. And this good that it brings does not last only for a
short period of time, but it is intended to bring a long-term good effect in the
community.

Aims for the common good of the community
Does not function alone
Differences
Community engagement is the process of developing partnerships and sustaining
relationships.
Solidarity is the unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially among individuals
with a common interest or mutual interest within a group.
Citizenship is the legal status defined by civil, political, and social rights.
PRACTICE TASK 3
Write a 2-3 paragraph essay guided by the following questions and the rubric.
1. Why community action is important within a community
2. What do you think are the duties and obligations of a citizen in the fulfilment of
community action?
Going back to the reading material, community action refers to the collective effort done by
people directed towards addressing social problems in order to achieve social well-being. From
the definition of community action, it is seen that it has a pivotal role in attaining the common
good of the community. One of the good aspects of it is that it promotes not only individual
initiative or effort but rather it encourages communal participation. All members of the
community are part of this project; thus, everybody’s involvement is the key to solve social
problems that results to social welfare.
Our daily lives are full of uncertainties. There are struggles that may come in a glimpse of an
eye. Many things, both good and bad, are happening in our communities. The bad things that are
happening in the community or the social problems must be addressed. Some examples of these
problems are crisis brought by the pandemic, improper waste disposal, divisions due to excessive
use of gadgets, and etc. These kinds of problems cannot be solved by an individual action alone,
but it demands the participation of the whole community. Let us take improper waste disposal for
example. If only one household will observe proper waste disposal, there will be no social
welfare that will take place. What should be done here is to impart knowledge to all members of
the community on how to do proper waste disposal and to make them realize how important it is.
This could be possible by having collaboration with organizations and agencies that has proper
knowledge about this matter. By empowering everyone about this initiative, the problem on
proper waste disposal might be solved and community well-being might be secured as far as
proper waste disposal is concerned. That is just a simple way of showing how community action
happens and how important it is for the community.
Lastly, in fulfilling this community action, there is an important element to be considered.
This element is citizenship. Again, according to the given reading material, citizenship is the
legal status defined by civil, political, and social rights. Putting the Philippine context in
consideration, we Filipinos are driven by this challenge of moral obligations to our fellow
Filipinos. We ought to foster our neighbor’s needs and help them for the reason that we are both
Filipino. In fulfilling community action, there are duties and obligations of a citizen.
Implementing simple programs in our community fulfills our civic obligation as a citizen. Some
of its examples are implementing simple efforts like proper waste disposal, community pantries,
COVID-19 awareness campaign, and etc. Indeed, community action can be successfully fulfilled
with the practice of duties and obligations of each citizen of a given community.

PRACTICE TASK 1
Venn Diagramming
1. Community Education and Community Organization
Similarities
They are both for the good of the community
Participation of every member of the community is important
Differences
Community organization is building a system in the community to make the
community one.
Community education is implemented under a system in the community.
Community organization is wider in scope while community education is
more particular.
Community organization can happen just within the community while
community education needs professionals within or outside the community.
An example of this is COVID-19 awareness that needs people or groups who
have knowledge about the topic to impart it to the community.
2. Deliberative dialogue and Engaged research
Similarities
They are both open for possibilities
They are both seeking for solutions
They both involve community members
Differences
Deliberative dialogue involves members of community.
Engaged research involves members of community alongside people with
research expertise.
To understand it, let us take COVID-19 as example. In deliberative dialogue
there will be weighing of both positive and negative sides within a community
in order to arrive at a certain solution or to prevent the spread for instance. On
the other hand, in engaged research, there must be the aid of the professionals
in solving the issue like the intervention of doctors, researchers, Department
of Health, etc.
3. Direct service and Economic development
Similarities
They both aim to provide sustenance for the people
They are both directed towards the good of the people
Differences
Direct service is the action of the government towards the people in response
to the affected Philippine economy.
Economic development is the action of the Government to uplift national
economy.
As example, in the time of pandemic, direct service is the aid of the
government to the people like financial assistance and relief operations.
Economic development, on the other hand, is the decision of the government
to uplift the economy by opening businesses and jobs and thereby saving the
national economy.

PRACTICE TASK 3
Documentary Film Analysis
1. The documentary film I chose is “RePLAY, ReLIVE, ReCREATE - Community
Engagement through Sports” because it is a very good documentary that clearly shows
what community engagement is all about. As is seen in the title of the video, it is about
community engagement through the use of sports done in parts of Samar and Leyte
whichb were devastated by Typhoon Yolanda.
2. Answer the following questions:
a. What is the impact of community engagement in attaining community
development?
Community development empowers community members and creates
stronger and more connected communities. One way to achieve or attain
this community development is through community engagement wherein
building partnerships and sustaining relationships happen. In the
documentary film, there was a community engagement through sports. We
can see there that there are people who initiated the project and sought the
participation of the community having the youth as their main subject. By
having community engagement in which they used sports as platform,
they were able to empower the youth and impart learnings and lessons.
These learnings are not mere learnings like knowing how to play but more
than that, they are equipped with the ability to rise with their own feet in
times of crisis, calamities, and disasters.
b. Who is the main proponent of community development?
The main proponent of community development is none other than the
people who are part or member of a specific community. (ndi ako sureigdi.
Haha. Gawagawa lang. nakakalito kasi ang meaning ng proponent.
Pwedeng isang tao na talagang pinagmulan nyan o nagpauso nyan. O
taong nagsusuporta or who advocates for a certain activity. Hehe)
c. Why is solidarity necessary in attaining the target goals?
Solidarity is defined as a unity or agreement of feeling or action,
especially among individuals with common interest and mutual support
within a group. It is the bond that unites community member to engage
and participate in the community with the same interest. By looking at the
definition, its necessity in attaining target goals is obvious or evident.
Through solidarity, members of the community are being united. This
unity among community members, brought by solidarity, is what leads to
the goal perceived. In the case of the documentary film, the subject of the
community engagement was the youth who were product of post-Haiyan
time who were surely suffering not only economic problems but also
psychological effect. Solidarity happened when different people from
different sectors together with the participants engaged through sports
with the goal of uplifting the youth especially in the psychological aspect
of their lives; that when crisis or calamities happen, they are prepared
psychologically.
COMPLETE THE SENTENCE
1. Formal and informal education helped the learners in the community be equipped with
the knowledge to combat underlying community issues and social problems that are
being experienced in the community.
2. Engaged research in the fight against COVID-19 will help the community be more
resilient during this time of pandemic and know how prevent or contain its spread.
3. Deliberative dialogue on the opening of face-to-face learning modality requires weighing
both its positive and negative consequences in order to arrive at a better decision.
4. After the lockdown, economic development become better since businesses and jobs
started to operate again and generate income that uplift the national economy.
5. Sangguniang Kabataan is a community organization which give the youth a definitive
role in community affairs and ample opportunities to express their views on any issue
pertaining to the youth in the barangay.
MODULE 7
PICTURE ANALYSIS
The first picture shows Human Rights Day and with regard to poverty alleviation, it seemingly
means that it is the right of every person to be poverty alleviated and the government’s duty to
uplift them in this situation. The citizens of a country have the responsibility to pay taxes to the
government, but the question here lies in the second picture that says, “how do you want to
spend your taxes?” Of course, if the people will be asked, they will probably say that they want
their taxes to be spent for the good of all and not just for the good of some who call themselves
public servants. But what happens is that those who are in power corrupts the money which are
supposed to be the solution to the poverty that the people are suffering. Lastly, basing on the last
picture, it is corruption that mainly contributes to poverty; thus, it is corruption that the
government should address first, through good governance, to achieve poverty alleviation for the
people.

PRACTICE TASK 3
Graph Analysis
1. Which labor status showed you the highest data? Lowest?
Employed status showed the highest data; unemployed showed the lowest.
2. What does it imply?
By looking on the graph, it seems that there is a good implication because the gap
between the lowest which is unemployed and the highest which is employed is
very big. However, there is still something that it implies. Despite a good gap
between the two, we cannot simply say that it is good because there are still
people who are unemployed and underemployed. It means that there are people
who are left behind wherein, ideally, everybody should progress hand in hand
without setting others aside and forgotten.
3. How should the government address the present scenario in terms of our labor force?
The government is the governing body and has the power over the state. There are
lots of ways that the government can do in addressing the present scenario in
terms of our labor force especially with those who are unemployed and
underemployed. One of the ways that I think can be helpful is for the government
to delve in tourism, businesses, and infrastructures. Those are just some of the
things that will surely generate more jobs and will give opportunities for those
who are looking for a job. That way, the government can at least address the
present scenario in terms of our labor force.
4. Does balik probinsya, bagong pag-asa program will deliberately address to the
employment status of every Filipinos? How and why?
The Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa program is good for it aims to give
employment to the people. Lots of people went to Manila because they thought
that living in Manila is easy and they can find better work. However, due to
congestion or overcrowding in Manila, there are lots of people who were from
other place but were not able to have an occupation in Manila. There were no
more works or jobs because Manila is too populated. As a response, the
government had the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa program to help the people
with no job to start again and use resources that can be found in their own
respective places. However, I only found it applicable for those who are in Manila
and has a province to go to. But how about those people who are already in their
own places but are still jobless? Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa program is I
think applicable not for all or majority of the Filipinos but only for those who
went to the city and left their place but were not able to find job in the city. This is
not applicable for those unemployed but who were living in their own provinces.
