The present document describes the design and functioning as well as the
mounting procedure for the RNU4M-8C equipment.

RNU4M-8C
The RNU4M-8C is available in two versions for 3.5/10.5 GHz and 26 GHz.

It is used to set up a radio link with a transmission capacity of up to 2 x 2

Mbit/s (4096 bit/s) between a Terminal Station and the Base Station.

One of the two subscriber-side 2 Mbit/s ports is used to connect an

integrated multiplex unit which permits the connection of up to eight
terminals or subscribers via two plug-in Service Units.

The other port is made available directly via a connector located on the
RNU4M-8C front panel.

The following figure shows the front view of the RJ45 version of the

Information on intended use Issue h, 02.2004

1.2 Information on intended use

The radio system may only be put into operation in accordance with the
purpose defined in the operating instructions and with the specified
parameters (e.g. transmit power, transmission rate, frequency band,
modulation mode and safety distance from the antenna to avoid health
risks caused by electromagnetic fields etc.). Any change in technical
features and location may result in cancellation of the operating permit.

Operation of this radio system is permitted in many countries including EU

member states and is subject to the operating conditions prevailing in each
country. Operation is only permitted with the approval of the authority
responsible for frequency management in each country and in agreement
with the prevailing operating regulations of the Fixed Radio Service in the
planned frequency band (channel). This approval must be obtained before
commissioning.

Installation and operation may only be carried out by suitably trained

personnel.

The system may be installed and operated only in locations with restricted
access.

AN00236121 RNU4M-8C Equipment Description and Mounting Instructions
Issue h, 02.2004 Safety instructions

1.3 Safety instructions

1.3.1 Compliance with safety standards
The safety instructions described in this document are in compliance with
the safety regulations as per EN60950 (Safety of installations of information
technology systems).

Ignoring these safety instructions and the warnings may result in injury and
damage to property.
It is therefore required that only trained and qualified personnel
(maintenance staff as per EN 60950) install and maintain the system.

1.3.2 Personnel safety

In electrical systems, certain parts are of course live. Some parts

can also have high operating temperatures.

The unit may be taken into operation only after having set up the re-
quired connection to ground. This grounding must be in compliance
with the relevant national regulations.

1.3.3 Equipment safety

The units include components sensitive to electrostatic discharge.

When handling printed circuit boards, always wear a grounding
bracelet in order to avoid damage to such components due to elec-
trostatic discharge.

If you transfer the modules or units from a cold to a warmer environ-

ment, this may result in condensation forming on the modules or
units.
Modules and units must be dry before you may take them into ope-
ration.

Remote Radio Station (RRS) Issue h, 02.2004

2.1 Remote Radio Station (RRS)

The Remote Radio Station is part of the RNU4M-8C which is used together
with an Outdoor Unit (ODU) to implement the radio connection of the 2 x 2
Mbit/s links.

2.1.1 Modems
Each modem handles one data stream of up to 2 Mbit/s. Modem # 1 serves
the Network Unit. The 2 Mbit/s interface of modem #2 is made available as
an external interface via a CPM.

2.1.2 Overview of functions

The modem fulfills the following functions:

• Modulation/demodulation (modem kernel)

with 5 modulation schemes, see Table 2.A:
• DBA switching
• Framing/deframing (G.704, transparent, ISDN PRA)
• Recovery of performance data to G.826
• Data encryption/decryption acc. to the DES standard, optional
(also see section 2.2.8 on page 2-12)
• Output of status and alarm messages via the Service PC

Modem #1 (or ’Master modem’) holds a special position and handles the
following central functions:

• Communication with the Service PC for loading the operating

software (MOCO) and configuring the RNU;
• EDI interface and fan control;
• Access to the A&E Smart Card
(see section 2.2.8 on page 2-12).

Note: The general prerequisite required for the proper

functioning of this RNU is the commissioning process
successfully executed by means of the INCO (Installation
Controller). The Master Modem link is obligatorily necessary
for remote access via the SECO/SOA to the following
functions:

• EDI interface control

• SW upgrade

Without a Master Modem link, please note the following:

A. With system version MDMS 4.2 and higher:
The link performance of the Slave Modem link(s) is not affected,
since the exchange of all relevant data is ensured via the internal
CAN bus interface.

Page 2-2 Proprietary Information Marconi

AN00236121 RNU4M-8C Equipment Description and Mounting Instructions
Issue h, 02.2004 Overview of functions

B. With system version < MDMS 4.2:

The link performance of the slave modem link(s) may be affected,
since in this case an internal exchange of relevant data is not being
supported.

Modulation schemes used

The following modulation schemes with different channel coding rates are
used:

Table 2.A: Modulation schemes and channel coding rates

Modulation QPSK 8PSK 16PSK

Convolutional Coding Rate 1/2 X
Trellis Coding Rate 2/3 X
Convolutional Coding Rate 3/4 X
Trellis Coding Rate 3/4 X
Convolutional Coding Rate 7/8 X

Dynamic carrier switchover

The DBA (Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation) performance feature permits a

dynamic reaction to changing data traffic volumes. The modem can set up
a second carrier in addition to the one existing. This second carrier may
have new transmission parameters, i.e. a new data rate, modulation,
coding, carrier frequency, power level etc..

The existing carrier remains in operation until the new carrier has been
completely set up and synchronized. After completing the setup of the new
carrier and synchronizing it, the traffic is switched over from the existing to
the new carrier. Then the old carrier is deleted.

This feature maximizes the sector capacity by taking the traffic volume into
consideration. The bandwidth adaptation is controlled by the Base Station.

Indoor-Outdoor communication IOC Issue h, 02.2004

2.1.3 Indoor-Outdoor communication IOC

With the new series of intelligent Outdoor Units of MDMS Release 4.4 and
higher (initially for 28 GHz), Indoor-Outdoor communication is possible
which facilitates the alignment process at the terminal.

The alignment procedure for an Outdoor Unit with communication device

requires only one service technician who has to go to the antenna mast
only once.

Before starting the alignment process, the system must have been
completely installed and the antenna must be coarsely aligned. When
starting up the modem (reboot), the Outdoor Unit type (system type,
motor-driven WGA, beep generator) is requested. If communication is not
possible, the parameters are taken from the configuration file. Without a
motor-driven WGA or beep generator, the alignment is executed according
to the process previously used.

For a detailed description of the alignment process, please refer to the

Commissioning Manual for the Terminal Station.

2.2 Subscriber-side 2 Mbit/s interface

The subscriber-side 2 Mbit/s interface supports the following transmission
modes (the mode indicated refers to the designation of the respective
setting in the ’ServiceOn Access’ system):

— PMXA-mode (FBA): Transmission of structured E1-signal

(G.704) with a data rate of 1984 kbit/s
for ISDM-primary rate access.

— Transparent-mode (FBS) :Clock- and data-transparent trans-

mission of structured and unstructured
E1-signals.

— PCS-mode (FBA): Clock- and data-transparent trans-

mission of structured and unstructured
E1 signals. Monitoring of structured
E1 signals (G.704) possible.

— DMS-mode (DBA/FBA):Transmission of structured E1 signals

(G.704) with a data rate of 1984 kbit/s
for permanent circuits. Time slot 0 is
terminated. DBS operation is possible.
Subcriber timing only in conjunction
with
with MSV5 or MS1/4.

You can select between four different connector variants which can be
used to make the signal available on the RNU front panel (see section 3.3).

Generating performance data

At the subscriber-side input, performance data (G.826) are generated at

the 2 Mbit/s interface (code error rate, CRC).

At the radio-side input, the performance data (G.826) are recovered from
the performance of the radio link to the Base Station.

2.2.1 ISDN primary multiplex access (PMXA)

2.2.1.1 Implementation in the MDMS

S2M is a 2 Mbit/s interface specified by the Deutsche Telekom AG and

used for the transmission of E1 signals. This interface has been designed
for an access network which connects a subscriber to the public ISDN
network and simultaneously permits the complete line section between the
DIVO and subscriber terminating equipment (TE) to be permanently
monitored.

In addition to the subscriber terminating equipment (TE) and the digital

local exchange (DIVO), the PMXA access includes at least one access
network termination (NT) and one line termination (LT).

The MDMS-BS modem represents the LT. It is connected either directly or

via a transparent digital signal link (DSV2) to the local exchange. The
interface between the LT and DIVO is referred to as V2M interface, whereas
that between the LT and NT is a U-interface. The MDMS-TS corresponds
to the NT. It is used to connect the subscriber terminating equipment (e.g.
a PABX).

The connection between the LT and NT is normally set up via copper cable.
In the MDMS, this connection is replaced by a radio link.

Page 2-6 Proprietary Information Marconi

AN00236121 RNU4M-8C Equipment Description and Mounting Instructions
Issue h, 02.2004 S2M functions

In the past, the LT was regarded as part of the local exchange and the DIVO
was responsible for monitoring the link quality. Many tasks of the S2M and
V2M interfaces, signalling of faults and quality information as well as the
possibility of switching test loops for troubleshooting purposes are
resulting from this time.

In the specifications of the Deutsche Telekom AG and the ETSI standard

ETS 300233, the section between S2M and V2M is considered as
stand-alone access system with an own performance monitoring.

A special feature of the MDMS is the connection between the MDMS and
DIVO which is implemented by a digital signal link. Several E1 subscriber
accesses can be integrated into an STM signal by means of a multiplexer
and transmitted, for example, via an optical fiber cable. This digital signal
link must be transparent at the E1 level.

2.2.2 S2M functions

2.2.2.1 General

The following sections describe the MDMS features regarding

troubleshooting, fault signalling and fault detection.

2.2.2.2 Fault-locating loops

In accordance with the initial concept of the PMXA access, two

fault-locating loops have been defined:

3. Using the LT loop, the transmission path is tested up to the output

of the local exchange. This test point is provided by the LT. The E1
signal of the DIVO is looped back at the U2 interface of the LT to
the DIVO. As shown in Fig. 2.3: , this test loop is switched in the
BS modem of the MDMS (external loop) at the V2M interface and
not at the U2 interface.
4. The NT loop is switched to check the correct functioning of the
overall transmission path up to the network terminating point. For
this purpose, the E1 signal of the DIVO is looped back at the S2M
interface of the TS in the MDMS (internal loop).
Besides loop control via the NMS (NSUE/SOA), an inband initialization
is also possible from the DIVO by means of the Sa6 code word. In this
case, the DIVO is informed on the loop switched by means of the Sa5
signalling bit set.

2.2.2.3 Fault signalling

Depending on where a fault occurs there are different ways of signalling

detected faults (AIS, LOS, LOF, CER>10-3, BER>10-3) to the DIVO:

1. By injection of an alarm indication signal (AIS), i.e. continuous "1",

channel AIS (structured continuous "1") and auxiliary pattern
(binary 10-sequence).
2. By setting the alarm indication bit (A-bit, RAI).
3. By signalling an alarm by means of an Sa6 code in the service
digits.
By evaluating these different signalling types, the DIVO is enabled in the
S2M-PMXA mode to determine the direction of transmission and localize
the source of the defect. The diagram depicted below shows which
signalling type is used at which point of the system. Each signalling type
shown is assigned to an arrow. The beginning of the arrow indicates the
module where the defect has been detected. The contents of this diagram
are summarized in the table below.

2.2.2.4 Fault detection

In E1 systems, faults can be detected by evaluating the CRC check sums

or FAS words. In the return direction, CRC errors are sent back as E-bits:

1. The CRC4 procedure and detection of CRC errors and E-bits can be
switched off at the S2M interface of the TS. Thus, subscriber
terminating equipment not supporting the CRC4 procedure can
also be connected.
2. The components of the subscriber access network must support
CRC. In this section, the CRC check is always active.
In order to permit performance monitoring for the transmission section
between the TS and TE, the information available in the TS on the TE status
is transmitted to the DIVO:

1. An A-bit set in the subscriber terminating equipment is passed on

to the DIVO.
2. Single CRC errors at S2Min are signalled by means of the Sa6 code
word 0010.
3. E-bits received at S2Min are signalled by means of the Sa6 code
word 0001. If CRC errors and E-bits set are occurring
simultaneously, this status is signalled by means of the Sa6 code
word 0011.
4. Faults or defects detected at S2Min are signalled by means of the
Sa6 code word 1100.
The procedures described in item 2) and 3) are possible only if the TE
supports the CRC procedure.

FAS faults occurring at S2Min are not signalled to the DIVO. If the CRC
detection is switched off in the TS, the DIVO cannot evaluate TE
anomalies/faults.

The link between the TS and DIVO is also monitored by the DIVO in both
directions. In this case, defects are identified by means of the E-bit: In case
of a defect signalled to the TS (via the transparent BS) (see Fig. 2.5: ), the
E-bit is set in the return direction to the DIVO (an E-bit set has the binary
value "0").

With system version V4.2 and higher, the DIVO is capable of monitoring the
complete transmission link up to the TS.

Using a SISA-NMS (NSUE/SOA), it is possible to display information on the

performance of the radio link gained by means of an error detection code
(EDC).

2.2.3 IF Unit
The IF Unit sets up the functional connection between the modems and
Outdoor Unit (ODU).

Both the transmit and receive signal, signalling information as well as the
clock signal and supply voltage for the ODU are transmitted via one single
coaxial cable (IF cable).

Main functions of the IF Unit:

— Conversion of the modem output signals to the required

intermediate frequency (Tx function);
— Conversion of the ODU Rx signal to the required modem input
frequency (Rx function);
— Generation of a common clock frequency signal for all modems*;
— Activation/deactivation of the ODU HPA (power amplifier)
using the signalling information on the IF coaxial cable.

In the IF Unit, the following fault reports are generated and signalled to the
modem:

— PLL-Tx lock alarm (PLL_Tx_Lock)

— PLL-Rx lock alarm (PLL_Rx_Lock)

Table 2.C: Interface to the Outdoor Unit

2.2.4 OAM switch

The RNU4M-8C is ’supplied, managed and maintained’ by means of the
INCO software (Radio Units with modems*) and LMT software (Network
Unit) of a Service PC connected to the UAI (PC) interface designed
according to RS232.

Since the Radio Unit is configured via modem #1 (Master modem) and the
Network Unit via the NU control unit, the RS232 interface must be able to
switch over between these two. This switchover is executed automatically
and software-controlled by the INCO/LMT at the OAM switch.

Another switchover function also connects the UAI (PC) port to each of the
two modems. In order to get status and protocol information from the
second modem, the interface automatically switches between both
modems*.

For more detailed information on the maintenance and commissioning

process using the Service PC, please refer to the Terminal Station
Commissioning Instructions.

2.2.5 External Device Interface (EDI)

The EDI interface is used to monitor equipment units and safety devices
connected such as door contacts, smoke sensors or similar environment
sensors.

There are five signalling inputs, one auxiliary voltage of -24 V for powering
the sensors connected as well as one floating switching output.

Using the INCO software, SECO software or the ’ServiceOn Access’

Network Management System, the inputs can be requested and switched
as NO/NC contacts.

Changes at signalling inputs 1 to 4 are spontaneously signalled by the

Network Management System, whereas changes at signalling input 5 are

AN00236121 RNU4M-8C Equipment Description and Mounting Instructions
Issue g, 02.2004 Mounts for Service Units

3.4.2 Mounts for Service Units

Up to two Service Units can be mounted in the RNU4M-8C. The
connection to the RNU4M-8C is set up via a 96-pin plug connector.

The Service Units available with their interfaces are described in section
2.4 on page 2-14. For more detailed information, please refer to the
documentation of the respective Service Unit.

3.4.3 IF interface to the Outdoor Unit (ODU)

This interface is used to connect a customary angular N-connector with a
coaxial cable (IF cable) leading to the Outdoor Unit. This cable carries both
the Tx signal and Rx signal as well as the supply voltage required by the
Outdoor Unit (20 V DC). The N-connector port is located in the right-hand
section of the front panel.

3.4.4 External Device Interface (EDI)

The External Device Interface (EDI) of the RNU is composed of five
signalling inputs which can be used to connect external units (e.g. mains
adapter, alarm contacts of door switches or smoke sensors etc.), a power
supply source for powering the external signalling contacts (auxiliary
voltage) as well as a floating control output.

This interface is made available on the front side of the RNU via a 15-pin
Sub-D connector.

Signalling inputs

The inputs are galvanically isolated from the internal connections of the
RNU by means of optocouplers. The voltage applied to the input must lie
between 20 V DC and 60 V DC. The typical input voltage used is 24 V DC
or 48 V DC, the maximum current being 3 mA.

The inputs are software-configurable as NO or NC contacts. Alarms

available at the inputs are displayed by the INCO software and passed on
to the ’ServiceOn Access’ Network Management System or SECO
software. Thus, externally connected units can be monitored by the
Network Management System.

Alarms received at signalling inputs 1 to 4 are spontaneously signalled to

the Network Management System, while alarms available at signalling
input 5 must be explicitly requested.

The power supply source is short-circuit-proof with a 20 mA current limiter.

The length of the cable connected must not exceed 2 m.

The positive pole of the power supply is connected to chassis ground.

Switching output

The switching output (control line) can be used as NO or NC contact. It is

triggered by the ’ServiceOn Access’ Network Management System. The
relay contacts can separate DC voltages up to 60 V DC. The maximum DC
switching power is 30 W, whereas with an AC voltage it is 62.5 VA. A
maximum permanent current of
100 mA (inductive load) is permitted.

AN00236121 RNU4M-8C Equipment Description and Mounting Instructions
Issue h, 02.2004 Wall mounting

4.1.6 Wall mounting

For wall mounting, a special mounting kit must be separately ordered:

DESIGNATION IDENT. NO. PART NO.

Wall-mounting kit 62.7037.424.00-A001 AN00214122

Prerequisites

— The wall must be even and clean.

— The distance to side walls must be at least 30 cm for cooling and

accessibility reasons (see Fig. 4.2 and Fig. 4.3).

For wall mounting, the two mounting brackets included in the special
mounting kit must be attached to the left and right side of the RNU using
the four short screws (M6x10).

Using the template, bore four holes into the wall. Insert dowels and mount
the RNU unit by means of four screws.

Wall-mounting is permitted only with the RNU front panel pointing to

the left or right (see Fig. 4.2 and Fig. 4.3).

If the right side panel of the RNU unit has ventiducts, wall-moun-
ting must be executed in such a way that these holes are not poin-
ting down. In this case the unit can be mounted only with the front
panel pointing to the right.

To protect the front-side connectors, a cover plate can be provided. This

cover can be lead-sealed to avoid unauthorized access to the unit.
The cables are fed through the lateral opening of the cover.

The cover must be mounted in such a way that the front-panel LEDs
of the RNU are visible through the cover openings.

4.2 Cabling
4.2.1 Grounding
Grounding at the RNU grounding bolt

The grounding point (grounding bolt) is located in the right-hand section of

the RNU front panel (see Fig. 3.4 on page 3-4).

When the RNU is operated as a wall-mounted or desktop unit, the

grounding cable must be connected to this grounding bolt.

In Germany, this grounding cable must have the following minimum

diameters:

— at least 2.5 mm2 in case of protected laying

— at least 4 mm2 in case of unprotected laying

Connection to chassis ground

If the RNU is mounted in a rack (19“ or ETS), grounding via the grounding
bolt is not absolutely necessary provided that the unit is screwed to the
rack in such a way that there is a conductive connection to the rack and
the rack itself is grounded according to the relevant regulations.

To guarantee a conductive connection between the unlacquered rack

upright and the RNU mounting flanges, the screw connection between the
RNU flange and rack flange must be set up using an outer tooth-lock
washer. In addition, the screw connection must be carefully and well
tightened. This ensures a gas-tight connection between the equipment
flange and rack flange.

Note: The screw connection set up using a tooth-lock washer

must be clearly identified as grounding point by means of an
appropriate label!

Grounding must comply with the relevant local and national stan-
dards and regulations!

Power supply connection Issue h, 02.2004

4.2.2 Power supply connection

The RNU is operated with a nominal supply voltage of -48 V DC.

The connection of the supply voltage is set up via the RNU front-panel
connector (see Fig. 3.3 on page 3-3).
This connector must be secured by means of two screws in order to avoid
unintentional disconnection.

Connect or disconnect the power supply cable only with the supply
voltage switched off.

4.2.3 2 Mbit/s interface

Depending on the RNU version, RJ45, Sub-D, Mini-Snap or BNC connec-
tors are made available for connecting the terminating units.

4.2.4 Mounting and connecting Service Units

Mount the Service Unit in its card slot and secure the SU front panel by
means of four small cross-head screws.

Then connect the subscriber cables as described in the relevant SU

documentation.

4.2.5 External Device Interface (EDI)

The EDI connector located on the RNU front panel can be used to connect
external devices such as a door contact, smoke sensor etc.. For more
detailed information, please refer to the description of the EDI interface in
section 3.4.4 on page 3-7.

Issue h, 02.2004 Connecting the Outdoor Unit

4.2.6 Connecting the Outdoor Unit

Before connecting the IF cable, both the cable and RNU must have
been grounded in compliance with the relevant regional and natio-
nal regulations!

The connection between the RNU and Outdoor Unit is set up via a coaxial
cable. On the RNU, the cable is connected to the front panel via a 90o
N-connector (see Fig. 3.4 on page 3-4).

Please observe the following regulations:

— Note the maximum length and minimum bending radius which

depend on the cable type used.

— Never lay the cable parallelly to power cables (minimum

distance to power cables: 10 cm).

Note: In Germany, the IF cable must be grounded every 20 m

in compliance with VDE 0855.
In all other countries, the relevant country-specific regulations
must be observed.

Note: With the RNU4M-8C version for MDMS 26 GHz, use

the Extended Power version of the ODU!

Issue h, 02.2004 Commissioning the RNU4M-8C

Chapter 5
Commissioning the RNU4M-8C

5.1 On-site commissioning

The commissioning process of the RNU4M-8C is performed using a
Service PC with INCO software for commissioning the Remote Radio
Station (RRS) and LMT software for commissioning the Network Unit (NU).
Remote configuration modifications and downloads of new software can
be carried out subsequently using the ’ServiceOn Access’ Network
Management System, LMT software (for FlexPlex MSV5) or SECO software
(for configuring the Radio Base Station).

The Service PC is connected via the UAI (PC) port located in the left-hand
section of the front panel (see Fig. 3.3 on page 3-3) via a zero-modem
cable. Depending on whether the INCO or LMT software is started on the
PC, the OAM switch sets up a connection from the PC to the Master
modem or to the NU control unit.

5.1.1 Remote Radio Station (RRS) with INCO software

When starting up the INCO, the remote inventory data (RID) are read out
and displayed. This information also includes the modem ID. The latter is
used in the Radio Base Station for addressing the modems. For logistic
purposes, the modem ID of the individual unit is additionally indicated on
an adhesive label located in the upper right corner of the front panel (see
Fig. 3.4 on page 3-4).

If IOC-supporting hardware is used (for Indoor-Outdoor communication),

the alignment process can be executed by only one service technician. In
this case, the WGA is automatically adjusted and the ODU is aligned by
means of acoustic signals (beep generator).

For more detailed information on the RRS commissioning process of the

RNU4M-8C, please refer to the Commissioning Manual for the Terminal
Station.

5.1.2 Network Unit (NU) with LMT software

Both the LMT software and ’ServiceOn Access’ Network Management
System comply with the QD2 specification for network elements as
described below for RNU4M-8C.

The network element address is basically assigned on site using the LMT
software application. The further configuration of the NU is normally carried
out by the Network Management System. This is easily possible after
having entered the NE address.

RNU4M-8C Equipment Description and Mounting Instructions AN00236121
Leased-Line mode Issue h, 02.2004

For information on how to make these basic settings, please refer to the
Commissioning Manual for the Terminal Station.

A detailed description of how to configure the individual functions using the

LMT is contained in the LMT User Manual for RNU4M-8C.

5.1.3 Leased-Line mode

In case of applications not requiring dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA)
in the radio sector (e.g. with data modules or a SU-IP used as standard
router in the "Permanent Leased Line Mode"), leased-line operation is
possible.

The leased-line mode is configured at the multiplexer by means of the LMT

(Local Maintenance Terminal) or NMS (Network Management System). The
time slots to be switched must be in the flexible mode so that they can be
applied to the subscriber modules by means of the ZE switch. After
switching, the corresponding time slots are available on the subscriber
module (e.g. SU-IP).

Thus, a SU-IP operated in the "Permanent Leased Line Mode" can interact
with any E1 router, since V5.2 functionalities are not used. The SU-IP
supports up to three independent channel groups (four with the outband
port deactivated) with a fixed data rate (nx64kbit/s) of up to 1920 kbit/s. For
a detailed description of the IP configuration in the leased-line mode,
please refer to the Operating Manual of the SU-IP (see section 3.5.3, Doc.
no. 62.1016.010.83) or to the Commissioning Manual.

5.1.4 Operation without multiplexer

For leased-line applications, the RNU4M-8C can also be operated without
MSV5 multiplexer, since the V5.2 functionality is not used. In this case,
however, remote access to the multiplex section of the RNU4M-8C is not
possible, since the Network Unit link normally used to transmit signalling
information to the MSV5 cannot be set up.

During the commissioning process, a special configuration file (MIB file:

RNU4M-8C_OwM.mib) must be downloaded to the ZE module by means
of the LMT (Local Maintenance Terminal). All time slots are thus assigned
the "flexible" connection type and can be switched through by the ZE
switch to the subscriber modules.

For a detailed configuration description, please refer to to the

Commissioning Manual.
