Okay. We can now proceed.

Developmental Activities
Before we proceed to our discussion let us have a short
review of what we tackled last Thursday?

Class what have you learned from our previous topic?

Anyone? Yes ______?
Ma’am last time we have learned the
theorems of central angles, arcs and chords.
Okay good, another, yes ____?
We learned also the congruent circles and
congruent arcs.

Very well answer! So I hope that most of you have the

same learning as your other classmates have. Okay? Yes ma’am.

B. Motivation and Unlocking Difficulties

Before we start our lesson. I have here some vocabulary
words where in you can see this on our discussion for
today. This will help us to understand our lesson. Please
take notes of this.

1. Adjacent Arcs- arcs with exactly one point in

common.
A

B
E

Arc AB is adjacent to arc BC

2. Sector of a circle- is the region bounded by an

arc of the circle and the two radii to the endpoints
of the arc.

A
B
C

ACB is a sector of the circle

3. Segment of a Circle- is the region bounded by an

arc and the segment joining its endpoint.

A B

Arc AB with line AB is a segment of the circle.

Yes ma’am.
Did you understand?

Okay, please take not of this vocabulary words for able

you will follow our discussion later.

Later I will ask you again the meaning of that Yes ma’am.
vocabulary words. Okay!

Be ready. And let us now start our discussion.

Lesson Proper
Our discussion for today is just a continuation of what
we have discussed yesterday. Today, We will discuss
about Arc Addition Postulate, Sector and Segment of a
Circle and Arc Length.

Are you ready to listen, class?

Yes ma’am
Okay. Let us start. Please eyes on me.
(Student follows).
Arc Addition Postulate.

Please read. Yes _______?

(student will read)
The measure of an arc formed by two
adjacent arcs is the sum of the measures of
the two arcs.
(the teacher will repeat)
Okay for able us to understand let us have an example.

O
E
V

In ⊙ E, arc LA and arc OV are adjacent arcs. The sum

of their measurements is equal to the measure of arc
LOV.

If measurement of arc LO is 71˚ and measurement of arc

OV is 84˚ then measurement of arc LOV = 71˚+84˚=
155˚

To get the measurement of an adjacent arc you need to

add the measurement of the 2 adjacent arcs.

Did you understand? Yes ma’am

Okay let us have another example.

M
A
85˚
68˚
E
Z
Find the measurement of arc MAZ

Who wants to answer? Yes_____? Arc MA + arc AZ= Arc MAZ

85˚+68˚=153˚

Okay very Good!

Do you have any question regarding on this? None ma’am.

Okay, we can now proceed to Sector and Segment of

circle.
To find the area of a sector of a circle, get
Okay kindly read. Yes _____?
the product of the ratio

measure of the arc

x area of the ¿˚
360

(the teacher will repeat)

Okay in getting the area of a sector we need to get first
the measure of the arc divided by 360 and next get the
area of the whole circle.

For able us to understand let us have an example.

A
60˚

B
C
10 cm
In ⊙C, line CB is radius, where in its measurement is 10
centimeters. And arc AB is an arc measuring 60˚.

To find the area of a sector first let us determine the

ratio

measure of the arc

360
60˚
So substitute the value, what is our arc measurement?

Okay

60 ˚
360

Now we have fraction let us simplify,

60 ˚ 1
=
360 6

Okay now let us get the area of the circle.

Class what is the formula in getting the area of a circle? πr 2

Anyone? Yes _____?

Very good!

Our formula in getting the area is πr 2

10 cm
Let us now substitute.
π multiply to our r or our radius. So what is our radius
measurement?

Okay
π (10 cm)2
π (100) cm2
answer is 100π cm2

now that we have our given we can now get the area of a
sector.

measure of the arc

x area of the ¿˚
360

1 2
x 100 π c m
6

100 π
c m2
6

Let us now lowest term

Let us divide both numerator and denominator to 2

50 2
Answer is cm
3
Yes ma’am.
The area of sector ACB is
50
c m2
3

Did you understand?

Okay let us have another example.

measure of the arc
Given the same circle. Radius CB is now equal to 15 m. x area of the ¿˚
360
And the arc measures 90˚.
90 ˚ 2
Find the area of the sector. x π ( 15 m )
360
Anyone who wants to answer? Yes _____?

x π 225 m
4

225 π m
4

Yes ma’am.

None ma’am.

Okay very good!

Did you understand?

Do you have any question?

Okay, let us proceed now to the area of a segment of a

circle.

To get the area of a segment of the circle we need to get

first, the area of the sector and next get the area of the
triangle formed inside the circle.
P Q

Given that measurement of arc PQ is 90˚

And the radii are 5cm each.

Therefore we can get the area of the sector

measure of the arc

x area of the ¿˚
360

90 ˚ 1 25
x π ( 5 cm )2= x 25 c m2 = π c m2
360 4 4

Now we have our area of the sector we need to get now 1

bh
2
the area of the triangle inside the circle.

Okay in getting the area of triangle what is the formula

we need to use?
Yes_____?

Okay very good!

1
bh
2

We have a right triangle and our base and height are

both radius also, so that their measurement are the same
which is 5 cm.

We can now substitute.

1 1
bh= (5 cm)(5 cm)
2 2
2
1
( 25 c m2 ) = 25 c m
2 2

We have the answer

25 c m 2
2
Yes ma’am.
Okay, to get the area of the segment of the circle we
need to minus the area of the sector to the area of our
triangle.

25 25
π c m2− c m2=7.135 c m2
4 2

Did you understand?

Okay let us proceed now to our last topic. Arch length.

The length of an arc can be determined by using the

proportion

A l
=
360 2 πr

Where in A is the degree measure of an arc

r is the radius
l is the arc length
360 is the degree measure of the whole circle
2 πr is the circumference of the circle

Okay to understand this lets have an example.

1. An arc of a circle measures 45˚. If the radius is
6cm what is the arc length of the arc?

Let us substitute the given to our proportion.

A l
=
360 2 πr

45 ˚ l
=
360 2 π (6 cm)

45 ˚ l
=
360 12 π

Simplify the fraction

1 l
=
38 12 π

Now cross multiply

1 l
=
38 12 π

12 π =8 l

Then divide by 8 for able our will be left

12 π 8 l
=
8 8

12 π
=l
8

Or 4.71
