Summer Reading Assignment

There are THREE parts to this assignment.

Please complete all THREE items below.
1. Class assigned book: You are assigned to read Restart by
Gordon Korman. There will be activities with this book the first
two weeks of school. It should be completed before the first
day of school.

2. Choose a book in your Lexile: You get to pick a book to read.

Please use the resources listed next to select a book. Then you
will need to prepare a book talk. You will be giving the book
talk when school starts in August. Please see the attached
pages for a further explanation. Also included are planning
pages. The pages are not required to be turned in, you will
only be graded on your book talk/presentation.

3. Virtual field trip with a summary paragraph: Take at least ONE

virtual field trip this summer. Please see attached options, but if
there is a different one you would like to do please contact
the teacher. The focus of the field trip should be the United
States, because that is what we learn about in 5th grade. Then
write up a summary paragraph of your experience following
the guidelines included.

Virtual Field Trip Summary Paragraph!
This summer please take at least ONE virtual field trip! A virtual field trip is
a way for us to “visit” so many different places without actually going
there. These trips allow us to learn about things that we will be studying
and offer a fun and engaging experience! You might want to take a virtual
field trip to a museum or an aquarium! Please see the list of options for
you to choose from below. Once you have completed the field trip you will
need to write a summary paragraph about your experience. A summary is
a brief or short explanation of something that you read, hear, or see. You
have been provided with a graphic organizer to organize your ideas and a
set of guidelines to follow! You will turn this in on the first day of school!
Some things to write about in your summary:
● What virtual field trip did you choose?
● Why did you choose that one?
● What did you see? Hear?
● Did you like this virtual field trip? Why or why not?
