END SEMESTER EXAMINATION

MCA: Semester-I (2020-21) Course Code: MCA104

Course Name: Computer Networks
January 29, 2021 Friday, 14:30 Hrs
Time: 2 Hours, MM: 50 Name of Faculty: Dr. Sharad Saxena
Note: Attempt any 5 questions. All questions carry equal marks.

Q1. (a) Define Network Congestion. How "Window Policy" is different from (5)
"Acknowledgement Policy" for congestion control.

(b) If the numbers (7, 9, 6, 0, and 12) are to be sent from sender to receiver, (5)
then show the steps for checksum calculation and data verification at both
sender and receiver end (Assuming 4 bit representation for numbers).

Q2. Define Multiplexing and its types. If a channel has four interconnected (10)
terminals A, B, C and D and uses CDMA technique for multiplexing and de-
multiplexing. The chipping sequence for station A is [+1+1+1+1] of B is
[+1-1+1-1] of C is [+1+1-1-1] and of D is [+1-1-1+1]. If C transmits 0, D
transmits 1, A transmits 0 and B is silent. Find the following:
a) The multiplexed (composite) signal.
b) Graphical representation of signals of A, B, C and D.
c) De-multiplexing of signal C at some receiver to extract the transmitted
bit.
d) De-multiplexing of signal I) at some receiver to extract the transmitted
bit.

Q3. How Selective-Repeat is different from Go-back-N algorithm. In Go-back- (10)

N the size of the sender window must be less than 2m, where m is the
number of hits used for the representation of packet sequence numbers.
Assuming the value of m=2 answer the following questions by drawing
suitable diagram(s):
a) Why the size is less than 2m?
b) What happens if a data packet is lost?
c) What happens if the acknowledgement of a packet is lost?
d) What happens if the time to get acknowledgement expires?

Q4.(a) Consider a data signal 1001101011. Apply the following Line Coding
Technique to represent the signal.
1. NRZ-I
2. Manchester

(b) Consider the graph in Figure 2, below and construct a Link State (LS) data
base for each node and for the complete tree. Draw a least cost tree using
Dijkstra's algorithm taking 'A' as root node.

Q5. Differentiate between Class-full and Class-less addressing. An organization
has Three offices with 25, 60 and 99 computers respectively in a premise.
The organization is granted a block of addresses for LAN setup and one of
the known addresses is 14.22.72.0/24. Based on these fact find the
following:-
a) Network Address and Broadcast Address of the given IP Block.
b) Subnet Mask for 25, 60 and 99 Computers.
c) First and Last Address of each LAN/sub network.

(10)
Q6. Write short notes on:
a) Ethernet Standard.
b) Switch Vs Router Devices
c) Network Topologies
d) Multicast Routing

(10)
polling technique of media
Q7. How reservation technique is different from
access control? If a periodic signal is decomposed into five sine waves with
frequencies of 150, 350, 550, 750, and 950 Hz and maximum amplitude of
5 V then answer the following questions:
a) What is the bandwidth?
b) Draw the spectrum in frequency domain.
c) What are the lowest and highest frequencies?
