Q3-W7-8 Adv Sci

The document provides information about simple machines and activities to identify them. It includes: 1) A pre-assessment to identify machines like the wheelbarrow, axe, and meet grinder. 2) An activity where students identify which simple machine should be used for tasks like loading a truck, sweeping a yard, and opening a bottle. 3) Another activity where students answer questions about levers, screws, and inclined planes. 4) Explanations of how inclined planes make work easier by supporting weight, and why simple machines are important for reducing effort and extending human abilities.

ACTIVITY 3

Directions: Answer the following questions. Write your answers on the lines.

1. How does an inclined plane make work easier? Give a concrete example.
- inclined planes make it easier to move objects to a higher elevation. The sloping surface of the
inclined plane supports part of the weight of the object as it moves up the slope. As a result, it
takes less force to move the object uphill.

- An inclined plane produces a mechanical advantage to decrease the amount of force needed to
move an object to a certain height; it also increases the distance the object must move. The object
moving up an inclined plane needs to move the entire length of the slope of the plane to move the
distance of the height.

2. Why are simple machines important?

- Simple machines are useful because they reduce effort or extend the ability of people to perform
tasks beyond their normal capabilities. Simple machines that are widely used include the wheel and
axle, pulley, inclined plane, screw, wedge and lever.
- Machines make our lives easier as Machines decrease the amount of Power, Energy and Time we
all require for getting the thing done by magnifying our input force.
