All the procedures in Unit 4 will require you to mention
Unit 4? the preparation of the surgery ( and decontamination
room), list the instruments and materials needed and
used, demonstrate knowledge of the role of the
instruments and assist the dentist/patient.
Restorative procedures
4.1.a, 4.1.b, 4.1.c

1. Amalgam/composite
2. Composite
3. Glass ionomer

▪ If you do not assist with amalgam procedure- it can be


replaced with a composite one.
▪ Add details about instruments and materials used + their role
( a lot of information can be found in the book)

Avoid abbreviations! (pt, NAD, LA, GI)


Extra details

▪ Amalgam – hazardous- waste disposal is important (matrix band,


capsule)
▪ Glass ionomer- Can be hand-mixed or capsulated
If it is hand mixed, you have to mention ratio, setting and working time- this
can be found online or on the manufacturer’s instructions
Always mention you have followed manufacturer’s instructions
Endodontic procedures

1. Pulpectomy (stage 1 or 2)

▪ For root canal procedures - rubber dam is needed


If your dentist does not use it, you can write “I am
aware…..but in my practice we do not use this piece of
equipment”
▪ Pay attention to different stages- we have different
instruments from stage 1 to stage 2!!!
▪ Describe the role of the instruments used
▪ Do not use brand names

Add details of the impression disinfection process

Mixing of alginate to be explained in detail, measure scoop, measure water, shake container, check
expiry date, mix them together, obtain creamy bubble-free consistency, load the impression tray, hand
it to the dentist.

▪ Luting cement - you have to explain the chemical name, ratio, mixing and setting
time. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions.

▪ The denture must be disinfected before we give it to the patient


▪ Give instructions on how to clean, wear and maintain the denture-
they can be found in the book

✓ It cannot be accepted without weaknesses

▪ Complete 3 different lab dockets and upload them on


the website.
▪ Use the lab dockets from your dental practice
