A. General
A.1 Goal of this manual
These operating instructions apply to the optional display module for the protection relay,
SEPCOS, for the control and protection of power supply systems for DC railways.
These operating instructions do not contain information about all product types and cannot cover
every conceivable installation, operation and maintenance condition.
The screens can vary from one application to another according to specificities' required by the
customer for its particular installation.
For further information, or specific questions that are not dealt with in this document, please
contact your local Sécheron representative.

B. Technical characteristics
B.1 Overview
The optional display is a simple but powerful tool which allows for changing various settings of
the SEPCOS and retrieving information stored in the SEPCOS.
The 7” module is a color active matrix thin film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) which
uses amorphous silicon TFT as a switching device.
The display module is composed of a TFT LCD panel, a driving circuit, projective capacitive
touch panel and a back light system. The display has a 7.0” (16:9) diagonally measured active
display area with WVGA (800 horizontal by 480 vertical pixel) resolution.
It is also equipped with 8 LEDs with dynamic labels for the visualization of the state of the PLC
(Position, Type of fault, etc.).

B.2 Environment
The environment must comply with the following conditions: (EN 50123-1: Annex B ???)
• Operating Temperature: Min -0 C, Max 50°C
• Storage Temperature: Min -20°C, Max 60°C
• Maximum relative humidity (without condensation): 80%
• Altitude: 3000m

B.3 Highlights
• Construction: 7” a-Si TFT active matrix, White LED Backlight.
• Resolution (pixel): 800(R.G.B) X 480
• Number of the Colors : 262K colors (RGB 6 bit digital each)
• LCD type : Transmissive , normally White
• Viewing Direction: 6 O’clock (the direction it’s hard to be discolored)
• Interface : LVDS interface
• Capacitive touch panel: VDD:5V ; Interface : I2C

After a set time the display will lock and turn off the backlight. To unlock the display, click on the

Depending on the need of the customer events can be assigned as pop-up events. This means
that the event will show up in the events menu as well as appearing as a pop-up.
It is also possible to add “Acknowledge” to an event, which means the operator has to
“acknowledge” the event in order to make the notification disappear.

To navigate to a sub-menu, click on the icon of the sub-menu to display (drag to scroll down on
the “Settings menu”). When chosen a sub-menu the background color of the icon will change
from gray to blue.

On the “Versions” page the version of, for example, the display and S-Web are shown. At the top
of the display all boards in the module will be displayed, to access information regarding the
different board simply click on the board to show its information. The chosen board will be a
visible picture, whereas the remaining are grayed-out.

On the “Backlight” page settings regarding the light of the display are made. There are 2 settings:
1. “Backlight” in percentage (sets the intensity of the light)
2. “Backlight Off Timer” in minutes (sets when to turn of the backlight)
When the backlight turns off current user mode is logged out.

On the trends page analog real time values are displayed in graphical and numerical form. It is
possible to zoom in on a portion of the graph (click and drag). When zooming in on the graph the
displaying of real time value will stop until going back to the original view (data will still be
collected, but not shown). To resume original view, click on the “Refresh” icon.

The feature will depend on the customer's application, here we only describe an example of the
basic functions.

E.1 Mode “Local” and “Remote”


On the main screen click on “Local” or “Remote” to activate the dialog box. To change the Local/
Remote mode click on the text on the display. In the menu there are 3 options:
• “Local mode”, can make changes using the display

• “Remote Mode”, not allowed to operate from the display
• “SEPCOS OFF”, not allowed to operate in local or remote mode

There are two available options to update the SEPCOS software:
1. Using S-Web (Settings > Update Soft). See SEPCOS manual for further S-Web instructions.
2. Using a USB key connected directly to the SEPCOS (no PC needed).

F.2 Upload software using a USB key


It is necessary to be logged in as “Administrator” to access this function and to plug in a USB key
in the SEPCOS (with the .deb file to use for the update). Click on the USB key icon on the
display, then click on “Open usb”.

The display will show all folders available on the USB, as well as all files with .deb format, this is
the format which is used to update the software. Click on the .deb file to use for updating the
software.

A confirmation will appear, click “Yes” to confirm selection and to start the update. Click “No” to
cancel.
