The Carnival of the Animals is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements.


From the beginning the composer regarded the work as a piece of fun; however it
has since become one of Saint-Saëns’s best-known works.

Each movement represents a different animal or animals; 1) Introduction and Royal


March of the Lion, 2) Hens and Roosters, 3) Wild Asses, 4) Tortoises, 5) The Elephant,
6) Kangaroos, 7) Aquarium, 8) Persons with Long Ears, 9) The Cuckoo in the Depths
of the Woods, 10) The Aviary, 11) Pianists, 12) Fossils, 13) The Swan, and 14) Finale.
