Pump NPSH Calculation

This document provides a pump NPSH (Net Positive Suction Head) calculation for a pump moving TEG 60% fluid at 60000 kg/h. It includes input data on fluid properties, the suction line parameters and components, tank data, and calculations for head losses. The results determine the system NPSH is 3.34 m, which is compared to the pump curve to check if sufficient NPSH is available at the given flow rate.

Reynold criteria Turbulence

Now friction factor are approximate by modified Colebrook formula that given by S.E.
Haaland (1983) :

1/√𝑓 = -1.8log (6.9/𝑁_𝑅𝑒 +

(𝜀/(3.7 𝐼𝐷))^1.11 )

Friction factor f = 0.0176

Head loss due to pipe friction are calculate using d'Arcy formula:
ℎ_𝑓 =
(4𝑓𝐿
𝑣^2)/2𝑔𝐼𝐷
Head loss due pipe friction hf = 0.7454

B. Head Loss by Fittings and Components

Head loss by fitting are calculate by following formula :
ℎ_𝑐 = (𝑓
𝑣^2)/2𝑔
(𝐿/𝐷)
Components Quantity hc (m)
Bend 90 1 0.154
Bend 45 0 0.000

Total Head Loss by Fitting and Components 2.237

C. Vapor Pressure Head

Vapor pressure of the fluid at specified temperature are calculated by Antoine
equation :

ln⁡〖𝑃 =𝐴 −
𝐵/(𝑇+𝐶) 〗
With A, B, and C are Antoine's constant
Parameter A A = 16.21
Parameter B B = 3883.18
Parameter C C = 229.12
Vapor pressure P_vap = 47.052 kPa
Vapor pressure head Hv = 4.55 m

3. Results

Net Positive Suction Head of the system are calculated by summation of operating and
elevation head minus friction, component loss, and vapor head :

𝑁𝑃𝑆𝐻= ℎ_0+ ℎ_𝐿− ℎ_𝑓− ℎ_𝑐− ℎ_𝑣

Atmospheric pressure head h0 = 9.67 m

Elevation head h0 = 1.20 m
Pipe friction head hf = 0.75 m
Component loss head hc = 2.24 m
Vapor pressure head hv = 4.55 m
Net positive suction head (NPSH) NPSH = 3.34 m
