Cell Model Directions
Cell Model Directions
Guidelines:
• Use common materials such as Styrofoam, cardboard, wood, paper, cereal, play-dough,
string, buttons, pipe cleaners, beads, yarn, etc.
• Be creative, you do not need to spend serious money to make this model!
• Do not use jello, edible fruits, vegetables, or anything that will spoil!
• Create a table as a labeling key: number, organelle, & function.
• Make sure all organelles and numbers are securely attached to the model.
• Location of organelles within the cell must be shown correctly.
• Labels and descriptions of organelles must be typed!
• Identify your model cell as plant or animal using a label.
• Project should not be larger than a Frisbee in size.
• Prepare a base for your model.
• Put your name and period on the base of your model.
• Can earn a bonus (+5) if the class votes your model best of show!
The model you choose to create must include the following organelles:
- Put your name and class period at the top of the page.
- Beneath the heading, label your key plant or animal cell.
- Use textbook/internet resources to research the function of cell organelles.
2D Cell Model Instructions/Rubric Due Date: __________
Guidelines:
• Use textbook or Internet resources to identify cell structures.
• Use large poster paper to draw the cell and its organelles.
• The drawing must be large and organelles clearly visible from a distance.
• Use materials such as: play-dough, string, buttons, pipe cleaners, beads, and yarn to
give your 2D poster some 3D effects.
• Make each organelle a different color for easy identification.
• In a large font, TYPE the name of each organelle & attach to the poster.
• Include a table/key at the bottom of your poster with three columns:
color, organelle, & function.
• Make sure all materials are securely attached to the model.
• Location of organelles within the cell must be shown correctly.
• Identify your model cell as plant or animal using a label.
• Can earn a bonus (+5) if the class votes your 2D model best of show!
The model you choose to create must include the following organelles:
- Put your name and class period at the top of the page.
- Beneath the heading, label your key plant or animal cell.
- Use textbook/internet resources to research the function of cell organelles.
Cell Project: Board Game or Song/Television Video
Think a little outside the box and create a board game or cool song/video about
the parts of a plant or animal cell.
- You must include the information about the organelles listed below and what they do for
the cell.
- If you like, you can include information about both plant/animal cells and compare, or
you may focus on one type of cell only.
- Your project must be educational, with the goal of teaching the concepts in an interesting
and unique way.
- If you make a video, record it on CD so I can play it on the SmartBoard.
- If it’s a song, you will need to either record it or perform it live!
- If you want to use musical instruments, bring them in too!
- Can earn a bonus (+5) if the class votes your song best of show!
