Nepal is one of the developing countries and various aspects including education have yet to advance a lot.
Nepalese education system provides education based on traditional and theoretical approaches with irrelevant
curriculum that fails to meet today’s modern job market. In Nepal, Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University and
Kathmandu University are among the best educational institutions in Nepal.
Here is a table comparing colleges/University and their respective courses, tuition fees, and durations:
Some common problems to these institutions which are teachers are less motivated to do certain casework
or survey, the most teachers are not well-equipped and they are teaching in higher education institutions.
Also, teachers feel it difficult to indulge in research work due to lack of resources for research
methodologies, training, and workshops. I have not intended to study in Nepal due to outdated course
structures and curriculum that are taught. Traditional technologies are used in collages. Whereas, there are
lots of employment opportunities in the Nepalese job market for internationally qualified students. Many
multinational companies always search for internationally certified candidates. I want to study in Australia
because I have the ability to afford qualitative education for better career opportunities in Nepal in the
future. Additionally, 4years bachelor's course takes more than 5 years to complete which has huge impact
on the student’s future and career. Exams are not held on time and the results publication is also extremely
delayed. Around 60% of the students make it till the end of the semester/year due to negligence.
Moreover, studying abroad will give me an international viewpoint, as I will have friends from around the
world and that will surely expand my knowledge and strengthen my confidence level in my workplace in
future. Commerce accounting is a practical platform and in this fast changing contemporary world I don't
believe it's the right choice to depend over an outdated infrastructure.
Reason for not choosing USA, UK, Canada and New Zealand
USA:
Certainly, choosing a nation for higher education is an important decision that is influenced by a variety of
variables. Here are some reasons why someone would not pick the United States based on course structure,
culture, living style, language, and admission to course:
1. Course Structure:
The high cost of education in the United States, including tuition and living expenses, can make it
financially challenging for international students to pursue education. Additionally, programs in the United
States may last longer, with bachelor's degrees typically taking four years, compared to three years in
European countries, which can result in higher expenses.
2. Culture:
The United States' cultural diversity can be intimidating for some international students, as they may
struggle to adjust to the diverse atmosphere and prefer a more homogeneous context. Cultural differences,
such as habits, social conventions, and communication styles, can also cause misunderstandings or
discomfort, hindering a comfortable academic experience.
3. Living Style:
The cost of living in the United States, especially in big cities, can be high, including lodging,
transportation, and daily expenses. This may discourage students seeking more affordable options. The
diverse living environment, ranging from urban to rural areas, can make it challenging for students to find
their preferred lifestyle.
4. Language:
English is the primary language of instruction in the United States, but it can still pose a language barrier for
some overseas students. Admission often requires proficiency in English, but some may be uncertain about
their abilities. The diverse accents and dialects in the US can also hinder academic communication and
understanding.
5. Admission to Course:
Competitive admission to American universities can be challenging, particularly for popular programs and
famous schools. Additionally, obtaining a student visa can be a time-consuming and challenging process,
with immigration denials or delays potentially disrupting academic plans. This has led some students to
explore studying abroad in countries with expedited immigration processes.
UK:
Certainly, here's an elaboration on why someone might not choose the UK based on course structure,
culture, living style, language, and admission to a course:
1. Course Structure:
Undergraduate programs in the UK typically last three years, compared to four years in the US, which may
save students time and money. However, some may feel that a shorter program lacks depth in their chosen
subject. The UK's course structure often supports early specialization in a selected area, which may be
restrictive for students wishing to broaden their education.
2. Culture:
The UK's cultural diversity may not match that of the US, and some overseas students may prefer a more
cosmopolitan atmosphere. Additionally, the UK's unique cultural norms and etiquette can be challenging for
some students to adapt to, making it a more diverse country.
3. Living Style:
The UK's tuition costs may be lower than in the US, but living expenses in areas like London can be high,
particularly for students with limited financial resources. Additionally, the UK's wet climate may not appeal
to those who prefer a sunny environment.
4. Language:
The UK's primary language is English, but non-native English speakers may encounter language barriers
due to unfamiliarity with British English dialects and colloquialisms. Additionally, the country's diverse
regional accents and dialects can make communication and comprehension challenging for non-native
English speakers.
5. Admission to Course:
The United Kingdom, like the United States, faces challenging admissions processes, especially for popular
colleges and courses. Students may struggle to gain admission to their chosen programs due to stringent
academic and English language competency requirements, which may pose a challenge for some foreign
students.
New Zealand:
Certainly, I can provide an elaboration on why someone might choose not to study in New Zealand based on
factors such as course structure, culture, living style, and language:
1. Course Structure:
New Zealand's universities offer a more generalist education compared to the US or UK, making it less
suitable for highly specialized programs. Additionally, while New Zealand has made significant strides in
research and development, it may not match the pace of research opportunities in countries like the US or
UK, especially for Ph.D. or research-intensive degrees.
2. Culture:
New Zealand's cultural diversity is growing but still lags behind larger nations like the United States or
Canada. The country's social scene is calmer than in larger metropolitan centers, making it less appealing for
those seeking a dynamic nightlife and diverse entertainment options. Those seeking a more active city may
prefer a more diverse nation.
3. Living Style:
New Zealand's cost of living is slightly higher than the US or UK, and international students may face high
tuition expenses. For those on a budget, other countries with lower living costs may be more appealing. The
weather in New Zealand is unpredictable and may not suit everyone, with some areas experiencing heavy
rain. For a warmer and more stable environment, other countries may be more suitable.
4. Language:
New Zealand's major language is English, but some students prefer studying in countries where English is
the native language, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, or Australia, to avoid language
barriers.
Canada:
Certainly, the decision to choose a country for higher education is a significant one, and various factors
come into play. While I cannot provide personal experiences or preferences, I can elaborate on some
common reasons why individuals might not choose Canada for their higher education based on course
structure, culture, living style, and language:
1. Course Structure:
Canada's strong educational system offers numerous opportunities, but may not offer certain degrees or
specialties that some students need. Some niche or specialized courses may be accessible in other countries.
Canadian programs may be shorter in length, which may not suit students seeking more in-depth academic
experiences.
2. Culture:
Canada's cultural diversity and inclusion are appreciated, but some individuals may prefer a more
homogeneous setting or specific experiences. Additionally, some students may struggle with adjusting to
Canadian culture and opt for a culture more akin to their own.
3. Living Style:
Canada's climate can affect students' preferences, particularly those not accustomed to cold winters. The
high cost of living in areas like Toronto and Vancouver may discourage those seeking a more affordable
option, as these areas are typically considered more reasonable compared to other Western countries.
4. Language:
Canada's official languages are English and French, but some students may not be fluent in either, posing
communication and coursework challenges. Additionally, some students may prefer studying in an English-
speaking or non-English-speaking environment based on their abilities and professional ambitions.
It's crucial to remember that these variables are extremely subjective, and what one person considers a
drawback may be considered a benefit by another. The nation chosen for higher education should be
compatible with an individual's academic and personal aspirations, as well as their level of comfort with
different cultural and environmental aspects. Before making a decision, it is critical to conduct extensive
study and examine all factors.
Here is a table comparing colleges/University and their respective courses, tuition fees, and durations:
Georgian College, Business (BUSN) AUD 19,238 2 years Shorter study duration,
Ontario, Canada not equivalent to
Australia
New Zealand High Bachelor in Applied AUD 17,000 3 years Irrelevant course which
School, Taranaki Management will not be useful in
home country
I avoided other European and Asian countries like Denmark, Finland, Japan & Korea due to its language
barrier and the absence of the same level of assurance for high quality education provided by Australia,
which pursue me to choose Australia over other European and Asian countries.
4. Location: The location within Australia also matters. Major cities like Sydney and Melbourne
typically offer more job opportunities, cultural amenities, and a higher cost of living compared to regional
areas. Applicants should consider their preferences for city or regional living when assessing their standard
of living.
5. Education and Employment: Applicants with higher education and specialized skills may find it
easier to secure well-paying jobs, leading to a higher standard of living. The quality and availability of
education and employment opportunities can significantly impact an applicant's experience.
6. Family and Social Network: An applicant's family and social network in Australia, or the lack
thereof, can affect their sense of belonging and overall well-being. Social connections can provide emotional
support and access to local knowledge.
7. Immigration Status: An applicant's immigration status, whether they are a temporary resident,
permanent resident, or citizen, will also determine their access to social services, healthcare, and eligibility
for certain benefits.
8. Expectations and Adaptability: Ultimately, an applicant's standard of living in Australia depends on
their expectations and adaptability. Some individuals may expect a luxurious lifestyle and become
disillusioned if they do not meet those expectations, while others may embrace a more modest lifestyle and
find contentment in the cultural diversity and natural beauty of the country.
In summary, an applicant's realistic knowledge of living in Australia and their standard of living will vary
based on their age, cultural background, economic status, location, education, employment, social network,
immigration status, and personal expectations. It's essential for individuals planning to move to Australia to
conduct thorough research, consider their unique circumstances, and be prepared for both the opportunities
and challenges they may encounter.
Although, while choosing college/university for further study i researched several education Institutions
University of New South Wales and University of Melbourne are among them. I decided to choose Torrens
University over University of New South Wales because education system places too much emphasis on
memorization and regurgitation rather than fostering critical thinking, creativity and problem solving skills.
Also, limited vocational option and the larger class sizes are some of the reason for not choosing University
of New South Wales. Likewise, competitive admissions, rigorous coursework and a large student population
which might increases the class size in University of Melbourne made Torrens University an obvious
choice.
Financial Proof:
I came from a well-civilized and well-educated upper middle class family. They are so well assured that my
education in Australia will help me to achieve my career goals. The entire costs of study, accommodation,
travel and other miscellaneous expenses will be covered by my parents. Below table depicts my scenario
relating to my sponsorship for study period:
S.N. Sponsor’s Name Source of Exchange Rate Annual Income Annual Income
(Applicant’s Income (NRs.) (AUD)
relation)
1. Mr. Madan Prasad Income from AUD 1= NRs. 85.29
Bartaula (Father) Business (As Per the Nepal 460,920.00 5,404.15
Rastriya Bank)
Moreover, my education and living expenses are partially financed through an education loan. I have
procured an education loan of NPR 4400000 – AUD 50,389.37 from Siddhartha bank ltd. The combined
annual income of my parents from all the source is NPR 2,002,920 –AUD 22,937.68 according to exchange
rate of Nepal Rastriya Bank. Thus, my parents are capable enough of covering all my living expenses and
tuition fee during my stay at Australia.
Future Plans:
Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) is a very versatile topic. It grabbed my attention when I was studying
in Grade 11 and 12. So, I started researching about the course after my graduation. After researching
different universities and colleges, I found out Torrens University which gives quality knowledge and
experience to lead me towards my career ahead.
It has been my ambition to contribute in developing the financial sector of my home country: Nepal. So,
after completing my graduation from Torrens university, I intend to go back to my country with a brilliant
skill in Commerce (accounting) earned in Australia and search for a job as an accountant of a prestigious
organization in the market. Nepal’s financial sectors have been a steady growth over the last few years. As I
am very passionate about accounting and numbers, there is a great opportunity for me to contribute my skills
for the country in the field of commerce (accounting).
Upon completion of my Bachelor of commerce(Accounting) degree in Australia, my foremost objective is to
return to Nepal and leverage the knowledge and skills I have acquired to bring about positive change in my
homeland. Initially, I aspire to secure a position within a reputable accounting firm, where I can apply my
education and gain hands-on experience in the industry. Additionally, I am eager to specialize in a specific
area of accounting, such as tax, auditing, or financial reporting, in order to further refine my expertise. I
envision establishing my own accounting firm that delivers exceptional financial services to businesses and
organizations across Nepal. I am confident that my educational background, professional experience, and
entrepreneurial mindset will contribute to the growth and success of the business, thereby making a
significant impact on the Nepalese economy I am enthusiastic about actively engaging in professional
associations, participating in networking events, and involving myself in charitable initiatives within the
Nepalese accounting community.
Incentives to Return Home Country Nepal:
The primary objective behind my decision to pursue a bachelor of commerce (accounting) in Australia is to
obtain a globally recognized qualification that is not willingly available in Nepal.
I have to return back to put my learning into practice in my own country Nepal. The young generations like
us need to utilize our skills and the knowledge enhancing the development of country. First and foremost
reason to return is my families out here in Nepal who have always supported me. Making decision of going
abroad for further study was difficult for me since my family lives here in Nepal. Furthermore, being the
eldest son, my parents also have expectations towards me. I also want my parents to be by my side when I
step towards the success. They have compromised their desires for my shake. So, when they are getting
older with time I cannot escape from my responsibility. Because of our family's excellent business and
precious asset's, I must actively participate and expand our business in Nepal. I will be well–equipped to
make a substantial contribution to the Nepalese financial sector, where there is a rising need for qualified
expert.
I will return home after achieving a bachelor's degree by gaining knowledge that will help me develop my
career in my home country. My father owns a business under the name Kalika Upabhokta Bhandar, PAN
No. 304604278, located at Namtar-4, Makawanpur. To give continuity to my father's business and support
him, I have to return to Nepal. My father has land located at Bhimphedi 9, Makawanpur, and plots No. 322,
1096, 1115, 123, 1117, 183, and 324. We have a home at Hetauda 5, Makawanpur, in my mother’s name, on
plot No. 15435. We gave this house away on rent. As I am the elder son of my family and we have our own
business, I will return to my home country after I gain knowledge and develop my career. My father has
land located at Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City, Makawanpur, Ward No. 15, and plot No. 4258, which has a
fair value of 4,060,000. My father also has land located at Namtar Ward No. 4, Makawanpur, and Plot No.
1096, 1115, 123, 1117, 183, 322, and 423. The size of the land is 0-1-7 katha. My mother has land located at
Hetauda 5, Makawanpur, and Plot No. 15435, and land located at Hetauda 5, Plot No. 11709, with a fair
value of 20,600,000.
Moreover, settling in Australia can be quite expensive due to additional expenses such as accommodation. In
contrast, in Nepal, I have the option to work within my hometown without the added concern of finding
accommodation. Whereas, my aim is to run my own family firm and expand it, who else will not want to be
successful person in their home land rather than somewhere else. Therefore, I will definitely return to my
nation as i will have a better life here.
Living Arrangements:
Since I don’t have any relatives and friends in Australia, I will be living in a shared apartment. I
Will search different websites like www.flatmates.com.au, www.realestate.com.au,
