SECTION A (Knowledge and understanding) / 10 marks


Question 1:
Explain the axes of theodolite / 3marks
Question 2:
Discuss the difference between accuracy and precision /3marks
Question 3:
Define the following terms /4marks
i. Bearing
ii. Line of collimation
iii. Location survey
iv. Ranging
SECTION B (The application and analysis skills) / 20 marks
Question 1:
In running fly levels from a benchmark of RL of 10m, the following readings were taken:

Back sights 3.125 1.030 1.295 1.855

Fore sights 1.225 3.290 2.085

From the last position of the instrument, 6 pegs at 25m intervals are to be set out on a uniformly
falling gradient of 1 in 250. The top of first peg is to have a RL of 99.205. Work out the staff
reading required to set out the tops on given gradient. Show the results as it is shown in a level
book. /10 marks

Question 2:
Given the figure ABCDA whereby interior angles were measured using a compass, compute the
bearings if the bearing of the line AB is 990/ 10 marks

Question 3:
With neat sketch, develop all the procedures that involve in grid levelling /10marks

SECTION C (synthesis and evaluation skills) / 10 marks


Question 1:
Formulate all the steps involving in ranging over long distance/ 10marks
Propose and discuss the adjustment of theodolite /10 marks
