1.2 Classification
This Getting Started is intended for advanced users proficient in WinCC V11/V12 and in the
configuration of operator control and monitoring solutions. General concepts of HMI
configuration are not covered in this Getting Started.
Introduction
"Getting Started Runtime Professional" introduced you to the basic configuration of the
operation of two color mixing stations and the corresponding palletizing system. A single HMI
device was used for operator control and monitoring. You learned about the screen window
technology used to switch between the plant parts.
A multi-user system is a client/server solution in which the server plays the central role:
● Centralized data management
All configuration and runtime data is stored on the server.
● Computing and communication load on the server
The server handles tasks such as logging process data and communication with the
controller. On the clients, you may use lower-performance HMI devices which are more
cost-effective.

Tasks
1. Creating the plant configuration
2. Setting up communication
3. Configuring the HMI user interface on the WinCC server
Introduction
Your network configuration provides the necessary requirements for communication. You
map the real plant in the project by networking the PCs, the HMI devices and the controllers.
Procedure
1. In WinCC, create a new project named "GS_RTProfessional_Options".
2. Create the HMI device which is to operate as the server:
7. As a final step, rename the devices to facilitate their identification in the project
navigation:
Result
You have networked the plant and entered the IP addresses of the individual devices.
Introduction
After mapping the physical networking of the components in the project, configure the
communication:
● The server communicates with the three controllers via HMI connections.
● Client/server communication is defined by means of relations.
The "relation" defines the physical and logical connection between a server and a client.
Procedure
1. Add the "WinCC RT Professional" application to the server:
5. Finally. assign the following computer names so that you can clearly identify the HMI
devices within the network:
– Client_HMIMixing1: "MIXING1"
– Client_HMIMixing2: "MIXING2"
– Client_Packaging: "PACKAGING"
– Server: "SERVER"
Result
You have now configured the following items:
● Relations between the WinCC clients and the WinCC server
● HMI connections between the WinCC server and each PLC
Introduction
You need a separate start screen on each client for each part of the color mixing station.
Procedure
1. On the "Server" HMI device, add the start screens for the three clients:
3. You configure the authorizations of the user groups on the server so that users can log
on to the server later:
– "Operate": User may log on to the server.
– "Enable remote control": User may start a project on the server.
5. You also need to create these users in the Windows user administration of the server so
that these users can log on to the server:
Result
The three start screens for the clients are configured on the server and assigned to the
clients.
You can, for example, configure the operator control and display objects for visualization of
the color mixing station from the Getting Started Runtime Professional in the
"HMIixing1_Start" screen.
Introduction
There is a variety of components that exchange data with one other in distributed plants. In
most plants, information and processes are coordinated with one another. Documentation of
the chronological order of events poses additional requirements.
Time synchronization
Time synchronization means that one component of a system (time master) provides the
precise time for all other components (time slaves). The time information (date/time) is either
distributed by the time master or queried by the time slaves. For the overall task, all system
components need to evaluate this time information.

① Atomic clock, generating a time signal that is transmitted via the DCF77 long-wave transmitter.
② Receiving the time signal, variant 1:
A server receives the time signal and makes this available via Network Time Protocol (NTP). Transmission via the
Internet may possibly delay the time signal. This delay is dependent on the number of NTP servers routing the time
signal.
Use "Variant 2" if your automation solution needs ultra-precise time information in the millisecond range.
③ Receiving the time signal, variant 2:
A radio-controlled clock receives the time signal directly from the DCF77 long-wave transmitter. This time is
transferred to the time master. An example of such a radio-controlled clock is SICLOCK TC400.
Application example
In this example, the WinCC server takes over the role of time master. The local time of the
WinCC server is used. The MS Windows operating system receives the time signal via the
"Windows Time Service". This service communicates with an NTP server.
Procedure
1. Configure the settings for time synchronization of the WinCC server in the inspector
window:
– Specify the time source and a cyclic time signal:
– Use the system bus for time synchronization in order to ensure that the time signal is
sent close to the plant:
2. In the Control Panel of the WinCC server, select the server that provides the time signal:
Result
The WinCC server is set up as time master. The time signal is sent to the time slaves at
regular intervals.
Introduction
You have the following options for accessing the plant via the Internet or via the Intranet of
your company:
● WinCC WebNavigator
● WinCC DataMonitor
Application scenario
With these two options, shift leaders and service technicians can obtain information about
the status of the plant from their workplace.
Introduction
Configure access via the Internet/Intranet on the WinCC server so that the shift leader and
plant manager can access the color mixing station from their workplace:

● Creating a connection to the WinCC server
Via this connection, you specify the databases that will be available as information
sources. in this example, you access the runtime database.
● Creating a storage structure and assigning user rights
The reports you create in the WebCenter are saved to the folder structure of the WinCC
server. A storage structure serves two important purposes:
– You can store reports in an orderly manner, e.g. "PDF" or "WebParts".
– You can restrict access to specific folders of the storage structure.
● Setting up a connection to the segmented circular log
Via this connection, you specify the log segments that the WebCenter will access.
Requirement
● WinCC server is in runtime.
● The log folder has been enabled on the WinCC server in the network.
Procedure
1. Start Internet Explorer on the Office PC and connect to the WebCenter. Use the following
logon information:
– URL: http://192.168.2.1
– User name: DBConnector
2. Set up a connection to the WinCC server:
3. Link the log databases from which data for reports can be read:
Result
The connection to the runtime database as well as the storage structures and user rights
have been set up in DataMonitor. The shift leader and plant manager can now log on to the
DataMonitor portal and create reports.
Introduction
WebParts are pre-configured elements, such as an alarm table or static process screen,
which you can combine as required in the WebCenter on a WebCenter page.
This section demonstrates how to add an alarm table to a WebPart of a WebCenter page.
Procedure
1. Log on to the WebCenter with the user name "ReportAdmin":
2. Create a new WebCenter page on the basis of an existing template:
Result
The report with alarms from the specified period is displayed as Web Part in the browser:
