8 Getting Started, 05/2013, A5E32312069-AA
Creating a multi-user system 2
2.1 What is a multi-user system?

Introduction
"Getting Started Runtime Professional" introduced you to the basic configuration of the
operation of two color mixing stations and the corresponding palletizing system. A single HMI
device was used for operator control and monitoring. You learned about the screen window
technology used to switch between the plant parts.
A multi-user system is a client/server solution in which the server plays the central role:
● Centralized data management
All configuration and runtime data is stored on the server.
● Computing and communication load on the server
The server handles tasks such as logging process data and communication with the
controller. On the clients, you may use lower-performance HMI devices which are more
cost-effective.

2.3 Setting up communication

Introduction
After mapping the physical networking of the components in the project, configure the
communication:
● The server communicates with the three controllers via HMI connections.
● Client/server communication is defined by means of relations.
The "relation" defines the physical and logical connection between a server and a client.

Setting up time synchronization 3
3.1 What is time synchronization?

Introduction
There is a variety of components that exchange data with one other in distributed plants. In
most plants, information and processes are coordinated with one another. Documentation of
the chronological order of events poses additional requirements.

Runtime Professional Advanced Configuration Options

Getting Started, 05/2013, A5E32312069-AA 27
Setting up time synchronization
3.1 What is time synchronization?

Time synchronization
Time synchronization means that one component of a system (time master) provides the
precise time for all other components (time slaves). The time information (date/time) is either
distributed by the time master or queried by the time slaves. For the overall task, all system
components need to evaluate this time information.

① Atomic clock, generating a time signal that is transmitted via the DCF77 long-wave transmitter.
② Receiving the time signal, variant 1:
A server receives the time signal and makes this available via Network Time Protocol (NTP). Transmission via the
Internet may possibly delay the time signal. This delay is dependent on the number of NTP servers routing the time
signal.
Use "Variant 2" if your automation solution needs ultra-precise time information in the millisecond range.
③ Receiving the time signal, variant 2:
A radio-controlled clock receives the time signal directly from the DCF77 long-wave transmitter. This time is
transferred to the time master. An example of such a radio-controlled clock is SICLOCK TC400.

Application example
In this example, the WinCC server takes over the role of time master. The local time of the
WinCC server is used. The MS Windows operating system receives the time signal via the
"Windows Time Service". This service communicates with an NTP server.

Accessing process data via the Internet/Intranet 4
4.1 Introduction

Introduction
You have the following options for accessing the plant via the Internet or via the Intranet of
your company:
● WinCC WebNavigator
● WinCC DataMonitor

Operating the plant using "WinCC WebNavigator"

You may use the "WinCC WebNavigator" option to operate and monitor the plant via the
Internet or via the Intranet of your company from your PC. When using this option, you do
not need to make any changes to the WinCC configuration data. You may use the "WinCC
Viewer RT" included with your option package or any Web browser to access the plant.

4.1 Introduction

Evaluating process data using "WinCC DataMonitor"

You may use the "WinCC DataMonitor" option to provide current and historical process data
to all function levels of your company:
● Display and analysis of process values and alarms in trends or tables
● Display of logged process values in an Excel table for analysis and storage on the Web,
or as a print template for reports
● Time- or event-controlled creation of reports
● Creation of user-defined process data views, including integration of static process
screens

Application scenario
With these two options, shift leaders and service technicians can obtain information about
the status of the plant from their workplace.

4.2 Setting up Web access on the WinCC server

Introduction
Configure access via the Internet/Intranet on the WinCC server so that the shift leader and
plant manager can access the color mixing station from their workplace:
● Set up a standard Web page.
● Set up the Windows firewall.
For security reasons, shift leaders and operation managers may only display process values
and alarms via a Web browser. This means that only the portal page of the WinCC
DataMonitor is set up as standard Web page. Shift leaders and plant managers use a
separate program to operate the color mixing station.

Requirement
The WinCC DataMonitor1) option is installed on the WinCC server by means of the WinCC
setup program.
1) The WinCC WebNavigator server is installed automatically during the installation of the

WinCC DataMonitor server.

Procedure
1. Launch WinCC Web Configurator on the WinCC server.
This program is available at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Siemens\Automation\Portal
V12\Webnavigator\Server\bin".
2. Create a new Web page:

A report contains data from a selected period in the past. You can select the XLS or PDF
format. In addition, you may create WebPart pages in which you can assemble pre-
configured WebParts as you wish.
You may generate reports automatically and send these by email, for example.
● Online
You display process values and alarms directly in the browser. This data is updated
cyclically.

Accessing the runtime database

You can access the data of the runtime database with WinCC DataMonitor. Display of
process data by means of WinCC DataMonitor represents an additional option compared to
the display on the client: The color mixing station is operated and monitored with HMI
devices that also access the runtime database. So what happens in the case of
simultaneous access?

Clients and WinCC DataMonitor may access a segmented circular log at the same time.
However, the time of connection establishment is decisive if data from a backup log is to be
displayed. The first device to connect to the backup log receives access.

Tasks
1. Setting up the DataMonitor client
2. Setting up the WebCenter
3. Creating the WebPart

4.6.2 Setting up the DataMonitor client

Introduction
Use any browser to display and evaluate the process data and alarms of the color mixing
station via the Internet/Intranet.
Use the Office PC as client in this Getting Started.

Overview of user names and user groups

You need the following user groups and users to work with the DataMonitor client:

User name Member of the Windows Role

group
ReportAdmin SIMATIC HMI Viewer Creating reports
SIMATIC Report
Administrator
ReportUser SIMATIC HMI Viewer Viewing reports
SIMATIC Report User
DBConnector SIMATIC HMI Viewer Creating the connection between DataMonitor client and runtime database

Procedure
1. Install the DataMonitor client on the Office PC from the "WinCC RT Professional" DVD.
2. Create the aforementioned users on the Office PC and assign them to the Windows
groups listed above.
The Windows groups were created automatically during the installation.

Result
The Office PC is set up as DataMonitor client. Depending on their assigned roles, the plant
manager and user log on to the DataMonitor portal page with one of the created users.
The DataMonitor license is required on the WinCC server.

4.6.3 Setting up the WebCenter

Introduction
This section illustrates the following steps:
● Creating a connection to the WinCC server
Via this connection, you specify the databases that will be available as information
sources. in this example, you access the runtime database.
● Creating a storage structure and assigning user rights
The reports you create in the WebCenter are saved to the folder structure of the WinCC
server. A storage structure serves two important purposes:
– You can store reports in an orderly manner, e.g. "PDF" or "WebParts".
– You can restrict access to specific folders of the storage structure.
● Setting up a connection to the segmented circular log
Via this connection, you specify the log segments that the WebCenter will access.

Requirement
● WinCC server is in runtime.
● The log folder has been enabled on the WinCC server in the network.

4. Create a folder for storing the reports created in the WebCenter:

5. Specify the access rights for each folder:

Result
The connection to the runtime database as well as the storage structures and user rights
have been set up in DataMonitor. The shift leader and plant manager can now log on to the
DataMonitor portal and create reports.

4.6.4 Creating the WebPart

Introduction
WebParts are pre-configured elements, such as an alarm table or static process screen,
which you can combine as required in the WebCenter on a WebCenter page.
This section demonstrates how to add an alarm table to a WebPart of a WebCenter page.
