6). Safety Precautions


i. Safety barricade shall be provided for deep excavation locations
ii. Safety warning sign board shall be provided
iii. Safety equipment (helmets, glows, gum boots, etc – shall be provided)
iv. Everyone, who involve in the construction work will be advised to observe the safety
precautions.
v. Remove the existing power line near the proposed building trace.

7). Method of Construction

7.1 Site clearing & Setting out

Setting out of the locations of the structures has already been done by CGC . The
site would be cleared of all existing vegetations, boulders, rubbish, derbies & other
objectionable materials. The topsoil will be removed up to a depth of 150 mm. The
ground was already trimmed up to 12.15 MSL to reach commencing surface as

instructions given by NWS&DB. The excavated soil has been disposed to proper
locations as directed by NWS & DB.

7.2 Foundation Excavation, Anti-termite treatment & Lean concrete


The excavation of the trenches & column footings will be started from
(A) to (K) for easy construction. (Refer –KG1-10-A-01; Attachment -01)
 The excavation of the trenches and column footings would be done up to
the given depth as in the drawing KG1-10-S-17. If there are any changes
in the plinth foundation it will be provided by the Engineer to CGC.
 The actual excavated depth would be 150mm above the proposed depth
 Balance 150mm thickness of the soil will be excavated immediately
before the application of Anti-termite Treatment. Before start the Anti-
termite treatment the foundation surface shall be compacted to not less
than 95% MDD.
 After the applications of Anti-termite Treatment, 75mm thick layer of
G20 blinding concrete is placed along trench & columns pits. Before
laying blinding concrete, two layers of gauge 1000 polythene vapor barrier
is laid along the trenches and footings.
 The screed concrete shall be placed immediately after application of the
Anti-termite treatment.Engineer’s approval shall be obtained for the pits
and trenches before proceeding with construction of footings.
7.3 Columns Footing & Columns up to Plinth Beam
The schedule of footings for the administration building is given as below.

 After placing the blinding concrete layer, reinforcement of the column
footings & columns are arranged as given in the drawing KG1-10-S-17
 Clear cover for the reinforcement of the column footings and columns
below the ground level is 75mm and columns above the ground level are
40mm.
 It would be provided 2Y10 starter bars at the column formwork to connect
plinth beam as given in the Attachment – 02.
 Grade 35 ready mix concrete, will be placed for column footings and
columns up to the plinth beam
 Formwork is removed on next day and concrete is cured for 7 days.
 Formwork arrangement for column footing is illustrated in the
Attachment – 03

7.4 RRM Foundation, Plinth beam & DPC

7.4.1 Random Rubble Masonry foundation

 Rubble masonry work would be carried out according to the details given in
the drawing KG1-10-S-17
 The minimum depth of the rubble masonry foundation is 750mm and may
vary the depth according to the levels of the ground.
 The maximum height of the upper part of plinth foundation (including plinth
beam) would be 400mm.
 Foundations for earth fill shall be stripped to remove all obstructions,
vegetations, debris or other unsuitable materials. Except as otherwise
specified, foundation surfaces shall be graded to remove surface irregularities
and shall be scarified and loosened to a minimum depth of 100mm. The
moisture content shall be controlled as specified for engineered fill and the

surface materials of the foundations shall be compacted and bounded with the
first layer of earth fill as specified for subsequent layers of earth fill.

7.4.2 Plinth Beam

Formwork for the 300x150 plinth beam would be arranged on the rubble
foundations.

 2Y10 reinforcements starter bars on the columns would fixed to the plinth
beam.
 Shop drawings for the reinforcement arrangement for the plinth beam will be
submitted later.
 Grade 35 concrete is used for the plinth beam with proper compaction and
finished with leveling the top surface and cured after one day.

7.4.3 DPC

The finished plinth beam top surface would be considered as the DPC of the
plinth foundation. Two coat of DPC bitumen would be applied on the plinth beam
after one day.

7.5 Backfilling

 The approved borrow soil shall be compacted layer by layer to not less than
95% MDD, when backfilling inside the foundation.
 The soil layers (200mm thick) would be compacted in the foundation up to the
required level.
 The water supply and sewerage pipe at the toilet areas would be laid before
completion the backfilling to suitable slop given by the Engineer..
 The compaction of the filled soil would be continued up to the bottom level of
the lean concrete for preparation the ground floor slab as given in the drawing.

KG1-10-S-18.
 Anti-termite treatment would be done below the ground floor slab as
described in the columns foundations & plinth foundations.
7.6 Ground floor slab
The details of the ground floor slab is given in the drawing KG1-10-S-18.
(Attachment - 03)
 At the edge of the floor panels keep 10mm thick polystyrene strip separate the
concrete and plinth foundations.
 Location of the control joints are given in the ground floor slab drawing.
It would be fixed soft timber piece (20mm height) to shape on the
polyethylene layer through the joints. It would be used 12mm dia. 400mm
long round bar at 500 c/c (half the length of the bar coated with debonding
compound ).
 BS wire mesh A284 would be laid according to the drawing and use grade 35
concrete with proper compaction.
 While concrete work starting 10x 20 deep rigiform sheet placed edge of the
concrete and along the control joint. to mastic sealant.
 Curing will be starting after one day of placing concrete and continue up to 7
days.
 10x20 deep mastic filler use along the edge of the plinth foundations
 The ground slab will be cast in two operations
1. (A) – (G) / (1) – (6)
2. (G) – (K) / (1) – (6)

7.7 Columns up to 1st Floor beam


The size of columns would be reduced at the above ground level. The reinforcement
would be done according to CGC submitted bar bending schedule. It would be checked
the locations of the columns correctly after setting out the building again.
 150mm high kicker boxes would be fixed to cast the kickers for columns.
Grade 35 concrete would be used for concreting the kickers.

 As given in the respective drawings, the reinforcement bars will be fixed.
 The column formwork would be arranged in 1.2m or 2.4m height, whichever
is suitable for construction of the columns in several lifts up to 1 st floor beam
bottom level.
 The column formwork arrangement will be given as in the Attachment -05.
It would be checked the cover (40 mm) for the reinforcement the columns.
 Dowel bars will be fixed before concrete start as in the Attachment – 02 at the
lintel level.
 Grade 35 ready mixes concrete will be used for the columns and the formwork
is removed after one day.
 Hardened concrete is cured for 7 days.

7.8 First floor Beams and Slab


General arrangement of the beams & slabs are given in the drawing KG1-10-S-01.
 It would be prepared the formwork for the beams and slabs by using 12mm
thick plywood sheets after checked level of the beam bottom.
 Form work arrangement of the beams and slabs are given as in the sketch
(See Attachment – 06)
 Slab formwork would be started with supporting the beam sides to the correct
level to maintain flat surface.
 If the drawing has not been indicated the slab thickness, it would be taken as
125mm.
 Thickness of the other panels are given in the drawing.
 The formwork arrangement would be changed at the locations
1. ( C ) – ( D ) / ( 2 ) – ( 2a )
2. (G)–(J)/(4) - (5)
3. (J) - (K)/(1)–(3)
as the concrete slab would be lowered 150mm from the finished 1 st floor
level.
 It would arrange the reinforcement to the beams first and then complete the
reinforcement for the slab. The details for the 1 st floor beams are given in the

drawings KG1 -10-S-05,06,07,08,09,10&11 and the details for the slab is
given in KG1-10-S-02&03.
 Shop drawings for the reinforcement of the slab will be issued later.
 Distribution bars would be arranged Y10 – 275 c/c for the 1st floor slabs.
 It would be checked the covers to the reinforcement of the beams (40mm) &
slabs (25mm) according to the specifications.
 Electrical conduit laying would be done according to the drawing
KG1-10-E-01,02.
 After cleaning all the dust and impurities, it would be informed to Engineer
for approval of the concrete.
 It would be used grade 35 concrete for the beams & slabs with proper
compaction. (using poker vibrators)
 It would be checked the finished concrete levels of the 1 st floor slabs using
dumpy level set,
 It should be lowered formwork of the slab panels, especially in the drop areas
according to the given drawings. It would be kept the opening for the ducts
with providing trimmer bars.
 The concrete work will be done in one day. If the concrete work cannot be
completed within one day, allow construction joint at the place as given in the
Attachment – 07.
 The first floor slab will be cast in two operations.
1. ( A ) – ( D1 ) / ( 1 )-( 6 )
2. ( D1) – ( G1 ) / (a1) – (6 )
2. ( G1 ) – ( K ) / ( 1 ) –( 6 )
 For the second day prepare the construction joint to form good surface and use
bonding agent before concrete placing.
 Slump test and test cubes will be done to check the quality of concrete
according to the specification.
 Curing would be started after one day of placing of concrete and continue up
to seven days

 All the form work would be removed after seven days according to guidance
of the Engineer.

7.9 Staircase
There are two staircases at the administration building. Setting out and excavation of
the ground for staircases are same as excavation of the column footings or plinth
foundations.
The anti-termite treatment and the lean concrete would be done as same as the
column footings.
Arrangement of the reinforcement for staircase is given in the drawing KG1-10-S-04
(Attachment 08). Arrange the formwork to suitable dimensions at footings and give
supports to resist the movement. It would be arranged the reinforcement from the
bottom of the trench up to the ground level as given in the drawing.
Grade 35 concrete will be introduced to place concrete in the footing and compacted
well by using poker vibrator.
Setting out of the staircase wall will be started to arrange reinforcement and to fix
the formwork with suitable supports. It would be used plywood sheets, 2”x 2” &
2”x 4” timber as materials for the formwork.
Grade 35 concrete would be used for concreting the staircase wall with providing
proper compaction. It would be removed the formwork in the next day and continue
the curing until several days.
Back filling around the staircase wall will be done as the backfilling completed at the
other foundations.
It would be checked the starting point of the staircase riser and fixed the soffit of the
staircase providing supports in suitable places with considering 1st & 2nd flights of the
staircase. Formwork and the reinforcement would be arranged the supporting beam
LB-1 , LB-2 at the staircase (ST1) and the LB3 at the staircase (ST2) as given in the
drawing KG1 – 10 – S- 04.
Formwork for the side supports to the staircase would be fixed and draw the steps on
the side formwork from the ground level up to landing & 1st floor slab level.

It would be extended all the reinforcement necessary for the flight 01 & flight 02 in
suitable space specified. It would be checked the waist thickness (175 mm) of the
staircase and fixed the risers from ground level up to 1st floor level.
Laying of grade 35 concrete would be started from the ground level up to the landing
level and then to the 1 st floor slab with providing correct water cement ratio of the
concrete. While the concrete is placed, use the poker vibrator to compact the
concrete from ground level up to the first floor level.
The concrete work of the 1 st floor slab and the staircase would be done in the same
date or one day after placing the 1st floor slab with finishing rough surface to bond
old & new concrete surface each other.

7.10 Columns up to roof beam


The reinforcement would be done according to CGC submitted bar bending
schedule. Setting out work of the columns would be started after one day of
placing 1st floor concrete.
 150mm high kicker boxes would be fixed to cast the kickers for columns.
Grade 35 concrete would be used for concreting the kickers.
 As given in the respective drawings, the reinforcement bars will be fixed.
 The column formwork would be arranged in 1.2m or 2.4m height, whichever
is suitable for construction of the columns in several lifts up to roof level.
 The formwork arrangement will be given as in the Attachment -05. It would
be checked the cover (40 mm) for the reinforcement the columns.
 Grade 35 ready mix concrete will be used for the columns and the formwork
is removed after one day.
 Hardened concrete is cured for 7 days.
 Dowel bars will be fixed before concrete start as in the Attachment – 02 at the
lintel level.

7.11 Brick work at Ground floor level

 Brickwork would be started on the DPC with providing openings for the doors
and windows as shown in the drawings.
 The brickwork will be continued up to lintel level of the openings (doors &
windows). and placed pre cast lintels on the openings as given in the drawings
KG1-10-A-01 & 04.
 After placing the specified lintels in suitable places the balance height of the
brick wall would be constructed up to the 1st floor level.
 Walls at the toilet areas would be constructed by using 112.5mm thick brick
wall.
 It would be fixed formwork for laying concrete sill below the openings at
windows and fanlight (sill level). Use two number of Y10 bars and construct
concrete pad as 225x150mm. It would be used ready mix concrete grade 35
for the concrete work at sill level.

7.12 Roof beams

 Roof beams are described in the drawings KG1 – 10 –S-01 & 12.
 The formwork for the roof beams would be prepared as same as constructed
the 1st floor beams without considering floor slabs.
(See Attachment - 06)
Reinforcement arrangements for the roof beams are given in the drawing.
KG1-10-S-12 and bar bending schedule will be submitted later.
 It would be used grade 35 concrete for the roof beams and compacted well by
using poker vibrators.
 All the roof beams would be cured after for several days.

 It would be fixed the 16mm dia. “U” bolts on the roof beams during the
concreting with prepared templates to fix the rafters to the roof beam
supporting 356x171x451 kg/m U.B. sections.
7.13 Roof frame work.

 The detail of the roof lay out plan is given in the drawing
KG1-11-S-01 & 12.
 The rafters T3, T4, T5 will be fabricated by using 356 x 171x 45 kg / m U.B.
section rafters (Ref. KG1 – 10 –S-13, KG1 – 10 – S-15).
 It would be fabricated 356x171x45 kg/m U.B. cut to shape of the above type
of rafters.
 Horizontal 127x64x14.9 kg/m “C” channel & the vertical “C” channel would
be fabricated at the rafter type T3 and T5 for fixing Zn /Al cladding as the
drawing KG1- 10-S-13.
 It would be used BHP galvanized purlin type “Z20016” with one raw of
bridging 127x64x14.9 kg/m “C” channel use for rafter T1, T6, T7, T8,T9,
T10.
 For the Rafter type T2 use 152x76x17.88 kg/m “C” Channel.
 BHP galvanized purlin “Z20016” used with 120x 175x 10 thick M.S. plate
welded to truss & fix to purlin using 10 mm dia. MS. Bolt.
 50mm thick insulation sheet used before cover the roof.
 It would be used the colour bond Zn / Al roofing sheet for cover the roof &
Zn / Al ridge sheet would be used for the top of the roof.

7.14 Brick work at 1st Floor Level

It can be started 1st floor brickwork immediately after erection of the roof.
The brick work will be continued up to lintel level of the opening (Doors and
Windows) and placed pre cast lintels on the openings as given in the drawings
KG1-10-A-02 ,04 & 05 and continue up to floor beam bottom.

 It would be fixed formwork for laying concrete sill below the openings at
Windows and Fanlights (sill level). Use two numbers of Y10 bars & construct
the concrete pad as 225x150mm. It would be used ready mix concrete grade
35 for the concrete work at sill level.
 Walls at the toilet area would be constructed by using 112.5mm thick brick.
It would be placed pergolas on the 1st floor level at the location.

7.15 Ceiling Work

 Cement board flat ceiling would be fixed with concealed joints on timber
frame work as given in the drawings at the ground floor level on the section.

2. (J)–(K)/(2)–(3)

It would be fixed the flat ceiling with 600x 600 mineral fiber-ceiling panels on
Aluminium frame work in whole area except area.
1. ( C ) – ( D ) / ( 2 ) – ( 2a )
2. ( J ) – ( K ) / ( 1 ) – ( 3 ) at the 1st floor.

The balance area would be fixed with cement board concealed ceiling on
timber framework. All the details are given in the drawing KG1 – 10 – A – 03.

7.16 Electrical Work

Plumbing, electrical and telephone conduit laying start before plastering work
start at the ground & 1 std floor level. It would be laid conduit pipes in suitable
locations of the building to meet the Engineer’s requirements. The conduit

pipes would be laid in the 1 st floor slab before concrete work start. Diagram
for conduit laying for electrical wiring will be submitted later.

7.17 Plastering Work

External and Internal plastering work would be done to the required quality in
the ground floor and 1st floor.

7.18 Tiling
The detail for the tiling work at ground floor & 1st floor is given in the
drawing KG1 –10-A-01 and KG1 –10- A- 02.
Tiling work at the ground floor toilet is given in the drawing
KG1 – 10- A –08, 09&10.
Tiling work at the 1st floor toilet area is given in the drawing
KG1- 10 – A – 11, 12, 13.

7.19 Doors & Windows


It would refer the drawing KG1 –10 –A- 06, 07 for the details at the ground &
1st floor doors & windows. There are large fixed glass type doors D8, D9 &
window s W19 & FG4 at the building. Double swing doors are the type D8,
D9 & D22 & fixed the door closer to D6 type door.
It would be selected the suitable sub contractor with approved shop drawing &
the samples.
Refer the drawing KG1-10-A-01 & 02 for separating the rooms with paneled
& glazed full partitioning at ground floor & the upper floor.

7.20 Gutters, Down pipes & Drainage wok


Colour bond Zn/Al rain water gutter (colour to match roofing sheet) and
Zn/Al rain water down pipes fixed at suitable places to flow water from roof

to the ground floor through 1st floor as given in the drawing
KG1-10-A-15 (Attachment – 09)
It would be used 110 Dia. Upvc type 600 storm water pipe U.G. with concrete
cover to the slope 1:100. The water collected to the storm water manholes and
finally floor to the road drains through 160 diameter uPVC type 600 storm
water pipe U.G. with RC cover to slope 1:100 to the road drain.
Finished floor at the every toilet areas would be 1:200 slopes to the catch pit.
It would be used 63mmdia. & 40mm dia. WWP at the toilet area of the upper
floor & brought it to the ground by 90mm dia. UPVC pipe with providing
63mm dia. vent pipe to the above collected the water from the ground level
with 63mm dia. UPVC pipe to the common drain 90mm dia.
The sewer collected from toilet will come through SWM – 1 & SWM – 2
&meet the sewer collect from toilet 2 & 3 at the manhole & go to septic tank
through 110mm dia. UPVC pipe.
All the details (shop drawings) for potable water supply waste water line &
sewerage line will be submitted later.
All the sewerage lines would be connected to the septic tank with providing
600x600x500mm deep sewer manholes & 110 diameter uPVC pipes and the
Engineer approved pre cast septic tank with capacity 18 cum would be used
for the sewerage disposal and, it would be used for the sewerage disposal and
connected to the soakage pit (2.5mx2m deep) which will be constructed by
using brick masonry according to the guide lines of the Engineer.
The detail shop drawings for the waste water system and the portable water
system will be submitted later.

7.21 Painting Work


It would be started the painting work with suitable colours at suitable
locations approved by the Engineer.

7.22 Electrical Wiring

It would be started the electrical and telecommunication wiring work
according to the given electrical and telecommunication drawings,
KG1-10-E-01, 02, 03, 04. The Engineer would approve all the electrical
fittings use in the operators. Special attention should be taken to fix the
lighting protection system as given in the drawing, KG1-10-E-05
7.23 Sanitary Fittings
Engineer approval sanitary fittings would be selected & fixed for the
administration building as indicated in the ground floor drawings
KG1 -10 –A- 11, 12, 13 & 14 ( potable water system ).

8.0 Concrete Cube and Slump Test


 Slump test would be taken every truckload of fresh concrete prior to use
in the construction.
 It would be taken 6 numbers of test cubes per 20cum of concrete
 3Nos cubes for 7 days.
 3Nos of cubes for 28 days.

9.0 Concrete Curing


 Curing will commence after the final set of concrete with compaction
and finishing.
 Cover the surface of fresh compacted concrete with wet gunny bags or
black colour polyethylene.
 To continuously replenish with top water on the top of gunny bags.
 Curing will be confirmed at least 4 days.

10.0 Construction Programme


Programme is attached in the Attachment – 10.
