Vector: Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus

Mosquito-borne infection
Causes Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and Dengue Shock Syndrome
No treatment but the disease can be early managed
o Female mosquito – humans
o Male mosquito – plants
o IV treatment – for rehydration

4 SEROTYPES / STRAINS

DENV1 – non-sever/asymptomatic
DENV2
DENV3
DENV4 - critical; leads to clotting of blood that causes death

First infection with one of the four serotypes usually is non-sever or

asymptomatic, while second infection with one of other serotypes may cause
sever dengue.

NS1 Antigen - test required for symptoms ranging from 1-5 days.
NS1 Antigen, IgM, IgG - test required for symptoms ranging from 1-5 days.
