1000 Watt Influence The Workbook
1000 Watt Influence The Workbook
I’m here to help unlock All 1000 Watts of your personal power.
As a speaker and coach, I’ve worked with CEOs and everyday people, small nonprofits and complex
global corporations … and do you know what they all have in common? Invariably, their greatest
untapped resource is their own light.
My expertise – my mission – centers on how to access that light practically and daily, and how to create
real change from within – whether for an individual, a team, or an organization. How did I come to
specialize in this pursuit to ignite what I call “All 1000 Watts” of the power that lies within people?
Here’s a bit of my own story...
In years past, you might have seen me on the TV shows NCIS, CSI, Numb3rs, Bones or one of about a
million television commercials. While studying at the Yale School of Drama, and as a professional
actress, I met hundreds of individuals who felt “held back.” I saw that well-known movers in the industry
and fledgling actors alike shared a common struggle to make their deepest goals tangible, and to
overcome internal barriers to living at and working at full wattage. Speaking boldly on camera is one
thing; speaking your truth in your daily reality is entirely another. I discovered I had an unmistakable
ability to help people tap into their own brilliant light and manifest real change.
So for the last seven years, I’ve dedicated myself to doing just that.
I teach executives, teams, and companies of all sizes how to connect more fully to themselves and each
other. From Trader Joe’s and SONY, to Dress For Success and the National Charity League, to an
appearance on The Today Show – I’ve empowered thousands of individuals and teams to land new
clients, focus their vision and articulate their goals, engage more meaningfully with customers, and
communicate better with each other. Our work together sometimes involves the intangible, but the
outcomes are staggeringly tangible.

At the heart of it, I help people see their greatness. Through coaching, plus a powerful experience I
created called Wishbeads™, I help them unearth the thing they’ve always wanted to do – the highest
hy they want
goal they can dream – and then find the courage and means to actually start. I crystalize w
it, who they are meant to serve and how to articulate it clearly. With that, they light up and the world
takes notice.
If you’re ready to connect – with your deepest purpose, with those you serve alongside, with more
clients, more customers, more friends – I’m ready to help. Join my tribe online, or connect with me on
YouTube or LinkedIn. You’re more powerful than you think. Let’s get you shining.

Welcome to Class: Let’s Get Started
Let’s face it, you are influencing people all the time. The question is, are you doing it strategically, with
intention and effort?
Opportunities do not come to people who sit on the sidelines. In order to catch the ball, you likely need
to be playing the game. Sports metaphors aside, when you take action toward what you want in life, life
becomes so much more rewarding.
Having influence means that you are affecting the lives of others through your presence, your thoughts,
and your actions. Having greater influence at work means that you can:
● get promoted to jobs that genuinely interest and excite you
● connect with leaders in your company that you admire and respect
● selflessly share your knowledge and empower others
● pursue your interests and talents both inside and outside of your company
● feel good about the work you do and get paid well for it
You have everything you need to start sharing your voice on life’s bigger stages, but it’s time to get clear
about what you want and how to grow your influence both inside and outside of your company.
Each section of this course covers the tools you need to expand your influence, with step-by-step
exercises to help you identify the opportunities to grow within your organization as well as ideas to
expand your reach to the greater public. In addition, you’ll receive a comprehensive workbook that
covers all the exercises in each short video lesson.
There are no limits to what you can achieve. It’s time for you to unlock your full potential and
embrace the journey of sharing your best and brightest self. When you do, you are also helping others
do the same. No need to wait any longer. It’s time to begin.

Understanding the Power of Influence
We are all influencing people all the time. Our energy affects everyone we come into contact with in
our lives. Our intentions influence every decision we make. Our efforts directly impact our outcomes. So
let’s be very intentional about the work you are doing inside this course.
In Simon Sinek’s book, Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action, he illustrates
the importance of identifying your why - this core belief that becomes the lens through which every
decision is made. Let me ask you now: (And I hope you answer as thoroughly as possible...)
Why do you wish for more influence within your company?
Why do you wish for more influence outside your company?

Opportunities to Expand Your Audience
Before we dive in to map out your goals, let’s look at where you are currently choosing to spend your
time both online and in person. In this exercise, I invite you to identify the people, places, websites, and
experiences you currently admire or have positively influenced you in the past..
Once you have answered the following, take a moment and look back at your why. Is there any
connection between your why and the existing list below?
Where do you secretly wish to be seen? Where have you imagined yourself to be featured? There is no
limit to your dreams. If you see it, you can become it.

Grow Your Influence Inside Your Company
In your current job, you have been hired for a particular task. Now that may seem very obvious, but
when you have your eyes set on life’s bigger stages, it’s all too easy to forget how important it is to be
amazing at what you’ve been hired to do.
Being great at your job sets you up for future success. Never underestimate that simple fact. So take a
moment now and think about your job description. Are you fulfilling all the tasks you have set out for
yourself and your company?
In my course, 1000 Watt Feedback, I discuss the philosophy of Kaizen - a humble approach that
embraces the notion that life is about continual improvement. It encourages self-reflection to see where
we can improve our practices, habits, and efforts to be better at what we do in work and in life.
In your work, can you identify areas that you can improve? By taking initiative and being better than
what you have been hired to do, you immediately set yourself up to be a positive influence on others.
Take a moment now and identify areas in your work that you can improve. Write down the action steps
you can make toward your new goals.

The Ways You are Already an Influencer
Have you ever stopped to consider what specific skills, ideas, and activities you do at work that other
people admire? You see, when you are doing work that you love and excel at, people inevitably take
notice.
So, what are the activities that you naturally enjoy in your work? What skills come easily to you? What
do people ask you advice about? What areas in your job do you consider yourself an “expert”?
Take a moment and identify the ways in which you are currently influencing others. Once you do a
personal assessment, see if you can ask others about the positive ways you have influenced them and
the skills they admire about you.
Please answer the following: Don’t forget to “toot your own horn!”

Make the Most of Mentorship
“In order to be a mentor, and an effective one, one must care. You must care. You don’t have to know
how many square miles are in Idaho, you don’t need to know what is the chemical makeup of chemistry,
or of blood or water. Know what you know and care about the person, care about what you know and
care about the person you’re sharing with.” — Maya Angelou
In an organization, it’s all too easy to focus your efforts on impressing those individuals who are higher
up on the organizational chart. In this lecture, I shared a story from my time as an actress on the set of
NCIS. (Please note: I mistakenly referred to my character as a naval general when in fact I was a naval
commander!). What impressed me the most about my lunch encounter with Mark Harmon was his
ability to treat everyone as his equal.
You have an opportunity to be a mentor as well as being mentored by others no matter where they
appear in the org chart.
Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their job title.
Ask yourself, what are the ways I have been limiting my spheres of influence? Who have I not made an
effort to truly connect with lately?
Write a list of the ways you can positively impact those around you, starting today:
● example: I will say hello to people in the elevator instead of looking at my phone
● example: I will check in with co-workers after they have been absent for a few days
● example: I will congratulate someone on a job well done
● example: I will thank someone for a gesture of thoughtfulness

I hope you’ve been inspired by the content you have learned so far… While inspiration is wonderful, if
you’re ready to get THE MOST out of this course, you need to take action. Small, intentional steps will
give you the necessary experiences to start building confidence as you pursue your goals for greater
influence and opportunity.
In the following exercise, map out a few goals and actions you are ready to commit to taking. Please
identify both low-stakes and high-stakes actions.
Low-stakes example:
What: Offer positive feedback to my associate. When: At the beginning of Monday’s meeting.
High-stakes example:
What: Submit an article for Forbes. When: I will submit my article by the first of next month.
What are you going to do? When are you going to do it?

Become an Awesome Ambassador
As you consider sharing your expertise outside of your company, you may be overwhelmed with what
type of content to create. If you go back to the previous lesson, where you wrote down the ways you are
already an influencer, you can see you have LOTS of content creation ideas.
In addition to all of those gems, consider the fact that you can share the incredible things your company
is doing as well! By being an awesome ambassador for your company, you are sharing your genuine
enthusiasm for the achievements of your organization.
In many ways, it’s easier to talk about a company’s achievements than your own, right?
Take a moment and identify some exciting talking points about your company’s history, recent
achievements or current projects.
●
●
●
●
●

Now, pick your favorite topic and outline what you could share with others.
WHAT: In one sentence describe what you are excited about.
WHO: Who inside the company was involved in making it happen?

You are never too old to learn something new. When you have a beginner’s mind, you open yourself up
to the possibility of expanding your knowledge, deepening your understanding and building a sense of
curiosity about the world.
No matter your age and experience, pursuing new information allows you to grow in ways you cannot
fully understand nor appreciate. So, what are you excited to learn next?
Brainstorm a list of topics that interest you! Feel free to include hobbies, sports, travel or work related
topics. The sky’s the limit.

Seth Godin’s AltMBA + The Marketing Seminar
As I mentioned, I am a huge fan of Seth Godin. With over 18 published books and one of the most
popular blogs online, he has a wealth of information to share and an uncanny way of making everything
sound simple and profound at the same time.
I’m a big believer in the power of learning and I’m proudly a student of his online course, The Marketing
Seminar, as I type this workbook.
There is no better investment, than the investment in yourself.
If you’re curious about his work, then I encourage you to check out his courses.
Most of us cringe at the thought of interrupting, hyping, and manipulating the
people we're marketing to. We don't want to stoop to all of the
high-maintenance, high-pressure, spin-filled stuff that the experts tell us we
need to embrace. And we certainly don't want to spend our lives in social
media, fighting for likes and attention. Marketing doesn't have to be this way.
It doesn't have to be a disdainful activity, one that you do poorly, under
duress. In fact, the best marketing is something we do with people, and for
them. The best marketing is thrilling, effective and generous. The best
marketing is something you can learn how to do. LEARN MORE HERE
Founded in 2015 by bestselling author Seth Godin, the altMBA uses digital
tools like Slack, WordPress and Zoom to engage more than 100 students in an
intense four-week process. In 2016, students from 27 countries worldwide
participated, with more students being added each session. Each session of
the workshop is led by a cadre of coaches, who engage with students in
individual and group work. During the workshop, each student publishes the
results of the 13 assigned projects on the public altMBA site. Over one session
of the workshop, more than 50,000 messages were exchanged between
students and coaches in Slack. The program is synchronous, with regular
deadlines, group discussions, and face-to-face video calls. It is entirely based
online, with students participating from their home or workplace. Attending
students include managers and leaders at large organizations, as well as
entrepreneurs and freelancers. We also invite rising leaders of important
NGOs to participate. Represented brands include Kickstarter, Nike, Microsoft,

Your Questions Answered
QUESTION: What if I come across as arrogant?
Arrogance is really nothing more than masked insecurity! It is NOT arrogant to pursue your
dreams by taking action toward what you want in life. Balance your intentions by choosing to
conduct yourself with honesty, integrity, creativity and humility. When you come from this
place, trust me, you will not come across as arrogant at all! While other people may be amazed
(or intimidated) by your desire to be an influencer, if you proceed with care, you will find more
supporters than foes.
The short answer is no. Let other people deem that term upon you, rather than claiming it for
yourself.
Oh, we all have experienced rejection at one point or another. Let’s face it, if you got everything
you ever set out to accomplish, life would be rather boring. The first way to deal with rejection is
to embrace the notion that it simply comes with the territory. That being said, when you get
rejected, feel the feelings and then take proactive steps to feel better. Here are some of my
favorite activities to bounce back after bad news:
● Get moving: Exercise is a great release of negative energy. Take a walk, go hiking, do a
rigorous workout.
● Listen to great music: It’s hard to feel bad when you’re listening to this.
● Help someone in need: Take time to give back to others. It’s great for everyone…
● Take a shower: You can literally wash the negativity off of you!
QUESTION: What if my company does not support my efforts?
I think you know the answer already, don’t you? Yes, you have to pursue your goals despite the
inevitable obstacles that are along the way. You may need to be creative. You may need to
watch a bit less TV. You may need to fund your efforts yourself, but you need to create the life
you deserve. I, for one, am cheering you on.

QUESTION: Can I be an introverted influencer?
Well, of course you can be an introverted influencer! Did you know that Susan Cain’s TED talk
“The Power of Introverts” has been seen over 17.6 million times? She even wrote an amazing
book about the power of introverts. Rest assured, no one is asking you to change your
personality. When you step into greater visibility as an influencer, you may need to build some
new skills as a speaker or writer, but the world wants to get to know you as YOU.

After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck,
Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant
book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human
endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities.
People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to
flourish than those with agrowth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed.
Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use
to foster outstanding accomplishment.

Diamond Sutra, an ancient text of conversations between the Buddha and his close disciple,
Subhuti. The second contains quotes from some of the best commentaries in the Tibetan
Buddhist tradition. And the third layer, the main text, is the practical application of Buddhist

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer
listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working
on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve
Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.
In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much
we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth
century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us
to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude
after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions.
Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people,
Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important,
how they see themselves.
Amy Cuddy has galvanized tens of millions of viewers around the world with her TED talk
about "power poses." Now she presents the enthralling science underlying these and many
other fascinating body-mind effects, and teaches us how to use simple techniques to liberate
ourselves from fear in high-pressure moments, perform at our best, and connect with and
empower others to do the same.
Brilliantly researched, impassioned, and accessible, Presence is filled with stories of
individuals who learned how to flourish during the stressful moments that once terrified
them. Every reader will learn how to approach their biggest challenges with confidence
instead of dread, and to leave them with satisfaction instead of regret.

In this instant New York Times bestseller, pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth shows
anyone striving to succeed—be it parents, students, educators, athletes, or business
people—that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a special blend of passion
and persistence she calls “grit.” Drawing on her own powerful story as the daughter of a
scientist who frequently noted her lack of “genius,” Duckworth, now a celebrated researcher
and professor, describes her early eye-opening stints in teaching, business consulting, and
neuroscience, which led to the hypothesis that what really drives success is not “genius” but a
unique combination of passion and long-term perseverance. In Grit, she takes readers into the
field to visit cadets struggling through their first days at West Point, teachers working in some
of the toughest schools, and young finalists in the National Spelling Bee. She also mines
fascinating insights from history and shows what can be gleaned from modern experiments in
peak performance.
