inhabit. The science of chemistry, like all other facets of human knowledge, is continually changing as
the scientific method becomes more precise and our understanding acquires depth. I want to gain
enough knowledge in my post-secondary education to pursue my own understanding, and contribute all
I can to humanity and the world. Through chemistry, we quantify and domesticate the chaos that is our
universe through human discovery, and in my future I want to be able to provide a discovery as
impactful as the Schrodinger equation, or the theory of relativity, or something as redefining to human
life as the invention of the battery. University is more than just a stepping stone to me, it is a gateway
that I will pass through on my way to that revelation for the betterment of the human race. How I will
achieve this is through dedication to my studies as I have previously demonstrated and continue to
demonstrate in my high school career, with several academic awards and 3 major branches of the
natural sciences in my portfolio, in addition to university level functions and calculus, among other
subjects. I believe I would thrive in a university environment, as I work well with others, I have an
especial fondness to laboratory tasks, and I enjoy the encouragement to learn these kinds of spaces
offer. My personal life is not limited to strictly academics however, as I am part of several
extracurriculars for my high-school, as well as being involved in clubs and having a diverse range of
hobbies and unique talents. I enjoy playing physical sports and bettering my health though personal
fitness, and the commitment required for that is no easy feat. I am an active part of an agricultural club
called 4-H which is well respected and quite prevalent in Canada, and I am scheduled to participate in
one of the largest cattle shows in the world, the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. I undergo these hobbies
while also maintaining A grades in my classes, so I would be a healthy addition to any extracurriculars
or communes within the colleges of Oxford. Not to mention, as an individual who rarely has
opportunities for travelling, taking up residence and pursuing schooling halfway across the world
would be a unique experience to say the least. I am also excited to participate in the English culture
more-so than just what I live through with my family here in Canada, and to learn all there is about the
United Kingdom and my European heritage. If I am selected for the course and w
hen I graduate from my first term, I have several plans for what I will do after the fact. Of course, I
plan to obtain a Master’s degree through Oxford, and that opens a wide range of career options. If I was
still harbouring an appetite for laboratory work, I could join a research firm as a general chemist, or
subscribe to a career in medicine through being a clinical technician or a medical writer. If I wanted to
pursue a more straightforward career I could become a DNA analyst or a crime lab assistant,
alternatively, I could be a nuclear chemist and help both the fields of medicine and energy in harnessing
radioactive materials. As I have made explicitly clear, I want to use my education offered to me for the
greater good, and I have a passion to improve the human condition for all who need it. My motivation
for learning, not just in schooling, was fostered by the excellent people in my life who told me I was
capable and gave me the means to accomplish anything I set my mind to, like my family, my teachers,
and my friends. I look forward to fostering new connections and relationships across the pond, and to
helping others in achieving their goals, as well as going above and beyond in my own. I hope I have
adequately articulated my view of the future and my desire to achieve, and I promise that I will not
disappoint if I am given the chance to demonstrate my abilities.
