completer her hat-trick Sue won the Spring Challenge Cup on Wednesday. This was a
closely fought final with Diane Green. Diane’s long range putting was exceptional, and
both players halved the 12th in 3! Sue eventually clinched the match on the 18th. Sounds
like a corker, well played both players.
UPDATE – In her debut for Wales Sue was selected to play in all 6 matches, winning 2
singles, and only losing the other 2 by one hole. Same story in the foursomes, 2 closely
contested matches but lost by one hole. Sue pictured below proudly wearing her Welsh

Roísín Scanlon, member of Bedfordshire Golf Club (as well as Woburn)

Saturday 2nd September and Sunday 3rd September we held the Club Championships and this year
36 hole singles strokeplay with 72 players men and women. Saturday started with bacon rolls,
tea/coffee from 7.30am and then Ladies teed off from 7.50am ahead of all the men. The weather
was sunny, however the grass was still wet with dew and our shoes turned out to be not as
waterproof as we thought. On Sunday again bacon rolls tea/coffee at 7.30am and again we teed
Pauline Henninger off about 7.50am (must admit it felt a little bit like groundhog day!) The weather again was
sunny, grass still wet with dew. Back in the club house we relaxed with a drink and lunch was
served, chicken and chips or chicken and salad, followed by the most delicious plum and apple
crumble with custard and ice cream.
Once the last players were all in Rob (Manager) made the trophy presentation. Pauline
Henninger won Ladies Handicap Champion and Val Freed won Club Champion. The men’s
Club Champion was Aidan Abbot. It was a great weekend with special thanks to Emma our Bar
Manager and her team for the food and drink and also to Duncan Steele and his team, I have
never seen the course look so magnificent.

ladies Helen Masters, Val Freed, Pauline Henninger, Allison Gaulton and Claire Delo. The day started off with bacon rolls
and afterwards cheesy chips ( which were delicious). The winner was Jamie Walker with Helen coming second on

enjoyable the two course meal was afterwards. It also has to be mentioned that the delicious homemade cakes
provided by the catering team were very much appreciated and allowed South Beds Ladies to continue their
reputation for providing a wonderful Halfway House. Thanks to all our greenkeepers and also our catering staff. A
very successful day showcasing our wonderful Golf Club.
