Eog Daq

The document describes a project to design and implement an electro-oculogram (EOG) amplifier system within specified constraints. The system must detect eye movements between 0.1-20 Hz and 0.1-3.5 mV, interface with an NI ELVIS II+ board, and visualize signals in LabVIEW. Technical constraints include standards for components, frequency range, voltage levels, and noise considerations. Public health constraints require accurate diagnosis. Safety constraints protect users from high voltages. Economic constraints limit costs to $50 and consider risks from international component purchases. Deliverables include block diagrams, alternative designs, and testing a validated working system.

Title: EOG (Electro-oculogram) amplifier.

Project description:
Design and implement an EOG data acquisition system by following specified standards and
constraints. The student must identify the constraints and standards relevant to the project. The student
must propose more than one solution while recognizing constraints and standards in addition to the risk
in selecting the optimized solution. The project must be synthesize, integrated, calibrated and validated
functioning as a complete working system.

Technical constraints:
 Frequency range: 0.1 Hz to 20 Hz.
 EOG Amplitude range: 0.1 mV – 3.5 mV.
 Open and close movement of the eyes should be detected.
 Line frequency: 50 Hz.
 Output of the signal conditioning circuit will be interface to the ADC (analog-to-digital converter)
channel of the NI ELVIS II+ board configured to an appropriate ADC range.
 EOG waveforms will be visualized using LabVIEW.
 Loading effect considerations on each module.
 Standard values of components must be use.
 Maximum supply voltage on the patient side should range from -1.5V to +1.5V or 0 to 3V.

Public health constraints:

 EOG signals must be acquired for an accurate diagnosis of the patient. Failure to do so might result in
wrong diagnosis and hence wrong treatment.

Safety and welfare constraints:

 Safety acquisition of signals from a human subject.
 Isolation of human subject from high voltage or current.
 Safety precautions during implementation and testing.

Global constraint:
 Not applicable.

Cultural constraint:
 Not applicable.

Social constraint:
 Not applicable.

Environmental constraint:
 Not applicable.

Economic factors and risk constraints:

 Budget.
o The total price must not exceed 50 USD.
 Op-amps, instrumentation amplifiers and isolation amplifiers might not be available locally, hence,
purchasing the components from an international vendor may incur risk in terms of shipping and
delay. You need to consider this risk and possibly other risks in reaching an optimized solution.
Deliverables:
1. To synthesize the block diagram of an EOG data acquisition system.
2. To develop more than one strategy while synthesizing and/or designing each module for the project,
simulate, implement and test the optimized design using constraints, standards, and risk.
3. To test, calibrate and validate the complete working system.
4. Each student must submit individual written reports in the link provided in the Blackboard following
the structure given below.

Structure of the main body and support sections of the written report.
