Grade 2

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Define beginning and end based on examples given
2. Identify the difference between beginning and end through beats
and movements
3. Demonstrate the beginning and end of the music through singing
different songs.
4. Give examples of songs they know.

II. Subject Matter:


Topic: The beginning and end of the music
Materials: visual aids, colors, and illustration board.

III. Procedure:

1. Motivation
Before we move on in our next topic let
us sing first. Okay sir.

We will sing a song entitled twinkle


twinkle little star with a different beat.
Are you ready?
(Pupils will sing the song)
In a video presentation:

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, How I wonder


what you are. Up above the world so
high, Like a diamond in the sky. Twinkle,
twinkle, little star, How I wonder what
you are!
2. Discussion
What did you notice about the beat of
the song that we sang?

slow at first then it goes faster.

What is the beginning and end of the


music? Let us find out!

When singing or dancing in a group, it is


important to start at the same time. It is
just as important to end at the same
time. Musicians play a short rhythmic or
melodic pattern as a signal on when to
start. This signal is called introduction.

To finish a song, musicians also play a


short rhythmic pattern to signal the end
of the song. This signal is called ending.
You can use the tune of the first line of
the song as an introduction.

Melodic Introduction

A musical tune or line sung or hummed


before the starting line of a song.

For example, sing the musical line from


the song “Bahay Kubo” using the
syllable la and sing the musical line from
the song “Are You Sleeping” using the
syllable lu.

Hum or sing the following pitches.

Rhythmic Ending

It is a short rhythmic pattern played after


the closing line of a song. This is done by
tapping the table, clapping, or
snapping your fingers to the tempo of
the last musical line. Rhythm instruments
such as cymbals, rhythm sticks, and
tambourines may be used too.

C. Activity
The teacher will sing the following
musical lines taken from the songs you
have learned. Write I if it is a beginning
part of a musical piece and E if it is a
ending part of a musical piece.

Always remember class that, music is
expression of sound. Love is the
expression of harmony in life and don’t
foregt to begin your day with a smile
and a positive attitude and everything
will be fine at the end of the day. It will
be like a pleasant musical piece that
begins and ends nicely.
