Globalization involves the increased interconnectedness and interdependence between countries, economies, and societies worldwide due to advances in technology and transportation. It is driven by international trade and investment and has effects on the environment, culture, politics, economics, and human well-being globally. Globalization is made possible and accelerated by factors like improved technology, trade liberalization, increased capital and labor mobility, and the growth of multinational corporations. While it provides benefits like access to larger markets and cheaper goods, it also poses disadvantages such as job losses and increased inequality. Effective communication is vital in the current global environment but faces challenges from cultural and linguistic differences between countries.

The teacher emphasizes that globalization is affected by communication and vice versa.
There are many issues (global or cultural) that can make or unmake communication.

The ability to communicate effectively in a global setting can be a challenge, hence, a

general understanding of the differences from one culture to another or one country to
another helps avoid miscommunication; thus is considered vital to be done .

1. Cognitive constraints –( limitations/restrictions) world views that provide a backdrop that all
new information is compared to or inserted into
2. Behavior constraints- each culture has its own rules about proper behavior which affect
verbal and non -verbal communication.
3. Emotional constraints –different cultures regulate the display of emotion differently

Globalization indeed is affected by communication and vice versa.

There are different issues affecting communication which can be either cultural or global
a) Social networks
b) Saying “po.”
c) Age identity
d) Competitive workers
e) Gender role
f) Ethnic identity

Cultural issues Affecting communication:

In this age of globalization, workplaces are increasingly integrated. This makes

communication and cross cultural understanding more crucial for everyone.

1. Cultural identity- culture can be defined as the values, attitudes and ways of doing
things that a person brings with him from the particular place where he was brought up as a
child.
2. Racial identity- this refers to how one’s membership to a particular race affects how
one inter- acts with co-workers of different races.
3. Ethnic identity- this highlights the role ethnicity plays in how 2 co-workers from diff.
cultures interact with one another.
4. Gender roles- communication of diff cultures is affected by how diff societies view the
roles of men and women
5. Individual personalities- this impact cross cultural communication. This means that
how a person communicates with others from other cultures depends on how his own unique
personality traits and how he esteem himself
6. Social class- the level of society that person was born into or reference when
determining who she wants to be and how she will act accordingly
7. Age identity- this refers to how members of different age groups interact with one
another
8. Role identity- this refers to the different roles a person plays in his life

The following possible cultural barriers to effective communication in a global

environment are:

1. Language difference
2. Lack of knowledge of other’s culture
3. Discrimination and harassment
4. Cultural relativism

Global issues affecting communication

Catherine Skrzypinski 2012 enumerates and discusses 3 global issues that may affect
communication

1. The issue of Face to Face Communication- the preferred method for spreading news
and information. Professionals and business leaders need to be able to communicate with
workers across the globe and if possible should convey in closer communication- that is face to
face.
2. The issue on Social Network- more companies worldwide are embracing social
networking sites like Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn to facilitate employee communication
better.
3. The issue on culturally competent worker-the rapid changes in technology are
impacting global communication, employees must be aware of linguistic, cultural, religious and
social differences to build strong communication channels with colleagues and business
contacts.

Wireless communication and technology have changed the world in the following ways:

technology to communicate with each other. Electronic media like radios, television, internet, social
media have improved the way we exchange ideas which can develop pur societies. Technologies have
improved education and learning process

Impact of Communication on the World

Chad Lewis pointed out that communication has an impact on globl lives. People living in miles
away are able yo communicate with each other, communication is made possible with the help of
wireless techno- the fastest and best form technology. Wireless communication and technology have
changed the whole world in the following ways:

Impact of Communication on Healthcare- the medical assistance related to information and

treatments is easier to distribute in remote rural areas

Impact of Communication on Aids of Catastrophe Events- if there is a calamity in the world, we

get to know it within few minutes, wireless connection enables us to view the catastrophic events

Impact of Communication on Environmental Protection- wireless techno had brought about a

revolution when it comes to protecting the environment, mobile phines are used to study the habits of
the species that are endangered.

Impact of Communication on News Reporting- the way news covered or reported changed
widely, no matter where the world event is happening, reports can report it and send it with the help of
wireless technology.
