ANNEX 02 Rev 05. UKC POLICY

This document outlines minimum net under keel clearance (UKC) requirements for ships at berth and in other areas. For ships under 17 meters draft, the minimum UKC at berth is 0.6 meters, and for ships over 17 meters draft it is 0.8 meters. In open seas and deep waters the minimum UKC is 5 meters, and in shallow waters and channels it is 3 meters and 1 meter respectively. The poster must be signed and posted on the bridge and cargo control room.

NOTES:

1. VLCCs transiting Malacca and Singapore straits must comply with procedure BMM /1 /
1.7, Navigation in Malacca and Singapore Straits.

2. DPA to be informed in EVERY case the UKC policy is not being met with.

3. When, in doubt apply the higher UKC criteria.

4. For river ports with changing depths, a higher UKC requirement may be decided upon,
basis Risk Assessment by vessel / office and local information obtained through agent /
pilots, office approval is needed after the RA if the Vessel is unable to maintain the UKC
as per Company policy.

5. Sea –Berths: Means SBM / CBM, STS operations and dolphin berths. This shall also
include any berth that is not in the port’s shelter.

6. When port authorities have no specific UKC requirements then the vessel should
maintain UKC 1.0 Mtrs. If the Port authorities have determined UKC less than 1 mts,
the master needs to assess the situation, make RA and office permission is needed.

Masters are required to record their UKC computation in the form BCL 19.

UKC Policy poster (Annex-02) is to be signed and posted on Bridge and Cargo Control Room/
Ship’s office as applicable.
