CHAPTER THREE

3.0. Work experience

The activities radio news room was sourcing for news, editing and

reporting news stories.

During the post meeting in the morning by 9.am every member of the room

was allowed to bring his/her own prospect for that day. The editor would

then select out of the prospect given by the reporters, the most available

idea.

My first story was on “Billboard Carrying No Parking” which I was

asked to out for roving to meet the Superintendent General of Police

Adamawa State to know his views on the issue. When I came back from

roving to the studio for production it was not easy because everyone is

expected to do his/her production alone.

I was then taught how to type and serve document in micro-soft word.

When there is less work to do in the office, I used to follow the other

reporters to cover some events outside.

12
Some weeks later I brought another prospect about Market Survey. I

went on roving to interview specialists in marketing in Jimeta Ultra-modern

market, Yola. After I came back I wrote my story and edited it and voiced it

in the studio.

I was also able to write a new story about refuse that are being

dumped anyhow within the Jimeta Ultra-modern Market, Yola which I went

out to interview some buyers and sellers to get their own views. I came back

and wrote the report and it was transmitted on air. I was also taught how to

operate some equipment in the studio and on how to record a programme.

I also learnt how to write a jingle of marriage. Before I ended my

training period I brought a lot of prospect but some were not taken due to the

time and some technical problems.

CHALLENGES AND CONSTRAINTS OF THE INTERNEES

DEPARMENT

- After roving, some prospects were not taken because it has to be screened

and only the most important were taken. Sometimes it is because a lot of

prospects are on ground and not all could be taken in.

13
CHAPTER FOUR

4.0. Comparative Analysis of theory and practical

The comparative between them is clear because when you talk about theory you

talking about the writer aspect and practical method.

1. Theory is done in class while practical is done with equipment.

2. Theory is some time writing in the class while practical is all about action

3. Theory is all about shadow of reality while practical is all about reality.

14
CHAPTER FIVE

5.0 General Observations

The four months of industrial training with Gotel Communication was very

interesting. I was able to acquire much knowledge in practical work.

The training period also paved ways for me to interact with and shared ideas

with different people of different background and intelligence thus challenging me

to work harder in the field of communication.

Problem Encountered

I encountered financial difficulty and some of the equipment are faulty and

were restricted to student.

Recommendation

To the school: effort should be made to visit student at their place of

attachment. Also there is need to make classroom teaching more practical to relate

well with people in the industry.

To the I.T.F: the fund should come to the student by making I.T allowance

available on time and for every student that partake in the programme.

Summary and Conclusions

The four months (4) practical work experience without mincing words was

exhaustive. The acquisition of knowledge relevant to my course of study has been

broaden. With what I have learnt so far I believe that I can work or practical. My
15
profession in any media house within the nation. The programme also offered the

opportunity to access the labour market and as such prepared me on how to handle

such issue when it arise.
