INTRODUCTION:

The ideology of unity, faith, and discipline lies at the core of Pakistan's foundation, fostering
a sense of shared purpose and resilience. The concept of unity, faith, and discipline was
articulated by Pakistan's founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in his
address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan on August 11, 1947. It represents the
guiding principles that would shape the new nation. Unity signifies the consolidation of
diverse ethnic and regional identities into a single, cohesive nation; Faith underscores the
importance of Islam as a unifying force and guiding principle; and Discipline emphasizes the
need for responsible governance, social order, and individual responsibility (Siddiqui, 2013).
Young people are the future of any nation, and their active involvement can significantly
contribute to advancing unity through promoting a sense of national identity, fostering
interfaith harmony, and participating in community-building initiatives. Moreover, youth can
uphold faith by advocating for religious tolerance and engaging in faith-based charitable
activities (Ahmad, 2021). They can also contribute to discipline by pursuing education and
skills development, participating in civic engagement, and advocating for transparency and
accountability in governance. The youth's commitment to these ideals will shape the future of
Pakistan, ensuring that unity, faith, and discipline continue to be integral to the nation's
progress.
IMPORTANCE OF YOUTH INVOLVEMENT:

Highlighting the crucial role young people play in upholding and nurturing unity, faith, and
discipline. Young people are the future leaders of Pakistan and their active involvement is
essential in realizing the nation's core values. They bring fresh perspectives, energy, and
innovative solutions to the table (UNDP Pakistan, Youth Empowerment)

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE YOUTH:

These responsibilities include active participation in civic and community activities,

promoting tolerance and inclusivity, and working towards national development goals
(Government of Pakistan, Vision 2025).

EXAMPLES OF YOUTH-LED INITIATIVES:

Share inspiring stories of youth-driven initiatives that have promoted unity, faith, and
discipline. For example, the "Taleem Do!" campaign led by young activists in Pakistan
advocates for education and social change (Taleem Do!, Official Website)

DEFINITION OF UNITY:
Unity is a state or quality of being united, connected, or in harmony, where individuals or
groups come together in agreement, cooperation, or a shared purpose.

Realization of Unity, Faith and Discipline and The Role of Youth in it

Faith, Unity, Discipline: (Urdu: ‫ تنظیم‬،‫ اتحاد‬،‫ایمان‬, romanized: Īmān, Ittiḥād, tanzeem) is
the national motto of Pakistan. It is regarded as the guiding principle of Pakistan's
nationhood. Upon the independence of Pakistan it was introduced as the national motto by
country’s father Muhammad Ali Jinnah)”

Unity: Jinnah stressed on the importance of unity among the diverse population Pakistan,
which consisted of people from various ethnic, linguistic, and religious background. He
believed that unity was crucial for the nation’s stability and progress. His speech on August
11, 1947 emphasizes the need for unity among Pakistanis of all backgrounds.
Role of unity in the creation of Pakistan: The all-India Muslim league, under the leadership
of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, rallied Muslims across the subcontinent to unite
under a common political platform.
Unity in Political Demands: The Lahore resolution of 1940, often referred as the Pakistan
resolution, marked a pivotal moment. It called for the creation of an independent Muslim
state in the region where Muslims were in majority. This resolution demonstrated the unity of
purpose among Muslim leaders from different regions. In summary the unity of Muslims was
the driving force behind the creation on Pakistan.
On 28 December 1947, four months after the emergence of Pakistan on the world’s map
Jinnah said:
“ We are going through fire: the sunshine has yet to come. But I have no doubt that
with Unity, Faith and Discipline we will compare with any nation of the world. Are you
prepared to undergo fire? You must make up your minds now. We must sink individualism
and petty jealousies and make up our minds to serve the people with honest and faithfulness.
We are passing through a period of fear, danger, and menace. We must have faith, unity and
discipline.” (inpapermagazine, 2011)
IMPORTANCE OF UNITY FOR FUTURE OF PAKISTAN:
Unity is also important for a better future for Pakistan. Here are some reasons why unity is
crucial for Pakistan.
1) Social Cohesion: Unity fosters social cohesion by bringing together people from diverse
backgrounds, cultures, and regions. A united society is more likely to work together reducing
divisions and social conflicts.
2) Political Stability: Political stability is essential for effective governance and economic
growth and it will help in progress of Pakistan.
3) National Security: Unity also enhances national security and defense of a country. A
divided nation is more vulnerable to security challenges.
ROLE OF YOUTH IN PROMOTING UNITY:
The youth can play an important role in promoting unity.
Youth Leadership: Take on leadership roles that promote unity.
Social Media and Media: Use social media and media to spread unity messages, tolerance
and respect.

HOW THE YOUTH IN PAKISTAN CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE
REALIZATION OF UNITY

Inter-Provincial Youth Exchange Programs: Imagine a program that brings together

young people from different provinces of Pakistan for cultural exchange and educational
activities. Youth from Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-
Baltistan can participate in a week-long camp where they learn about each other's
cultures, languages, and traditions. Through this interaction, they develop friendships
and a stronger sense of unity as Pakistanis.

Youth-Led National Youth Day: Young leaders can organize a National Youth Day
where youth from all over Pakistan gather to celebrate their shared identity and discuss
common challenges. This event can include discussions, art exhibitions, and music
performances, emphasizing the theme of unity in diversity.

What is faith?
“Complete trust or confidence in someone or something.”
Dictionary defines faith as “an allegiance to a duty or person.” In addition,
someone can act in “bad faith” when he or she has an intent to deceive. This contrasts with
good faith, which holds honest intentions.
ROLE OF YOUTH IN REALIZING FAITH:
 Religious Education and Awareness: Young people can engage in religious
education to gain a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings and values. They can
also promote awareness of Islam's ethical and moral principles among their peers.
 Interfaith Harmony: Youth can participate in interfaith dialogues and initiatives
aimed at promoting religious tolerance and harmony. This can help bridge gaps
between different religious communities and reduce religious conflicts. (Lopes, 2017)
 Social Outreach: Youth-led initiatives can focus on community service and charity
projects based on Islamic teachings of compassion and charity. For example, young
volunteers can organize food drives, help the needy during Ramadan, or provide
support to vulnerable communities. (Niazi, 2017)
 Promotion of Islamic Culture: Youth can play an active role in preserving and
promoting Islamic culture, including traditional music, art, and literature. This not
only reinforces faith but also showcases Pakistan's rich Islamic heritage.
 Youth Engagement in Religious Organizations: Many youth become active
members of religious organizations, where they participate in religious events,
discussions, and activities that promote faith and spirituality.
 Use of Digital Media: Young people can use digital media platforms to share Islamic
knowledge, host online discussions on faith-related topics, and counter extremist
narratives with messages of peace and tolerance.
HOW THE YOUTH IN PAKISTAN CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE REALIZATION
OF FAITH

Realization of Unity, Faith and Discipline and The Role of Youth in it

1. Interfaith Youth Dialogue Groups: Youth-led interfaith dialogue groups can be
established in schools and universities. These groups bring together young people
from different religious backgrounds to discuss topics related to faith, tolerance, and
coexistence. They can organize events like "Interfaith Harmony Week" where they
learn about each other's religious practices and promote understanding.
2. Youth-Led Charity Initiatives: Young people can initiate and lead charitable
projects based on Islamic teachings of compassion and charity. For example, they can
organize food drives during Ramadan, where they collect and distribute food to
underprivileged communities, emphasizing the faith-based principle of helping those
in need.
It's essential to note that while youth can contribute positively to the realization of faith, it
should be done in a manner that promotes tolerance, diversity, and respect for all individuals,
regardless of their religious beliefs. Balancing faith with an inclusive and harmonious society
is an ongoing challenge that the youth can address through their active involvement and
leadership. It's important to note that while faith is a fundamental aspect of Pakistan's
ideology, the country's relationship with religion has evolved over time, and there are diverse
perspectives within Pakistani society regarding the role of faith in governance and national
identity. (Kyle, 2017)
