4as Lesson Plan 1st Quarter
3. Abstraction The teacher will discuss the correct usage of the past
perfect tense.( and present examples for further
discussions.
Past Perfect Tense- is used for the past action, already
Finished when another past action happened.
- In using the past perfect tense a helping verb
had is added before the past participle. The
helping verb had is the past tense of has and
have.
- Formula of Past Perfect Tense
Subject + had +past participle
- Examples:
Had spent had lived had asked
had seen had bought had learned
They had spent a couple of days on the farm.
There are several situations where the past perfect tense can
be used.
1. To show that an action happened before something else i
In the past:
- Ana had met Roy before you introduced him to us
in the party.
- I had fallen asleep before you arrived.
2. To show that an action happened before a specific time
In the past:
- She had transferred residence before 2018.
- They had cut the trees last week.
3. Conditional perfect is used for something that might have
Happened in the past:
- If they had run faster, they could have arrived on
time.
- If Karen had trained
Marathon.
4. To show dissatisfaction with the past:
- Sharon wished she had returned the package.
- Billy regretted that he had forgotten his wallet.
Sentence Structure:
. After the people had cut rice, they came.
People, they – subject
Had cut – verb in the past perfect tense
Rice – object
After – time marker
Came – verb in the simple past form
. Before I went to the office, I had finished some business her.
4. Application The teacher will group into 3, then each group will be
given a task to complete before the given time, points will
be counted base on the rubric.
Group I – Sequence Timeline
Fill in the time and activities during your family
vacation last summer using the past perfect tense.
Group II- Slogan Making
Create a slogan about saving money using Past Perfect
Tense.
Group III- Sentence Completion
Each member of the group will hold an incomplete
sentence. Then, the member will look for its match among
the members to make the sentence complete.
