Manual control valve
The manual control valve for the trailer brake
circuit is not standard.

Drive position
When the lever is released (in its most forward position), air can pass from the intake port (1)
through the outlet port (21) to the trailer relay valve.
Braking position
When the lever is pulled backwards, the piston (4) moves downwards. The intake valve (5) closes
and the outlet valve (6) opens. Air exits the outlet port (21) through the vent (3).

General
There are two alternative versions of the trailer The trailer relay valve has an integral emptying
brake relay valves. Version I is manufactured by function, comparing the service pressures in the
Wabco and version II is manufactured by Knorr. vehicle service brake circuits and the trailer

Version II is not used in vehicles with EBS, circuit.) If the service pressure to the trailer does
double front axles or on 6x4 for Mexico. not increase normally when braking, for
example if the line breaks, the valve empties the
supply line to the trailer causing the trailer
Function emergency brake to apply. The brakes are
released when the brake pedal is released.
The trailer relay valves on the 4 series vehicles
have a variable increase in pressure of up to
1.2 bar for version I and up to 0.8 bar for version
II. The factory setting for the increase in
pressure is 0.3 bar, and should normally not be
changed.
Drive position
The supply pressure goes from intake port 11
through outlet port 12 to the trailer supply line.
The service pressure from the parking circuit in
port 43 pushes the piston 2 downwards, causing
piston 1 to stay in its lower position and valve 6
to close.
Braking position
The rear circuit service pressure enters port 41.
The front circuit service pressure enters port 42.
Pistons 3 and 4 are pushed down, valve 5 is
closed and valve 6 is opened. This enables the
supply air to go from intake port 11 to the trailer
control line at port 22 causing the trailer to
brake.
Balancing position
When the pressure has been increased, the
pressure in port 22 and space B pushes piston 1
down causing valve 6 to close. The pressures of
ports 41 and 42 keep valve 5 closed. The valve is
in balancing position until the pressure in any of
the ports is changed.
Emergency brake
There is no service pressure at port 41 and 42.
When applying the parking or trailer brake
manual control valve, the pressure in port
43 falls. Piston 1 and 2 move upwards, valve 6
opens and the trailer brakes are applied.
Venting feature
Normal driving position
• There is no pressure at port 41 and 42. The
service pressure can pass in at port 11 and
out at port 12 and on to the trailer supply
line.
Braking with damaged control line to trailer
• If the trailer control line is damaged when
braking, there is no increase in pressure in
the control line. The pressure from the rear
circuit (port 41) presses down piston 8,
causing the passage between port 11 and 12
to close. The pressure in port 12 is vented
through the leakage in port 22.
Drive position
The supply pressure goes from intake port 11
through outlet port 12 to the trailer supply line.
The service pressure from the parking circuit
(port 43) pushes piston 1 downwards until it
reaches its lower position and valve 4 is kept
closed.
Braking position
The service pressure of the front and rear
circuits enters through port 41 and 42. Piston 9
and 2 are pushed down, valve 4 opens enabling
the supply air to go from intake port 11 to port
22 and the trailer control line, causing the trailer
brakes to apply. Piston 3 is kept in its rest
position by the spring and the pressure in port
22.
Balancing position
The pressure in port 22 pushes piston 1 down
causing valve 4 to close. Because of the pressure
in port 41 and 42, piston 9, 2, 3 and 10 are not
pushed upwards. The valve is in equilibrium
position until the pressure in any of the ports is
changed.
Emergency brake
There is no service pressure at port 41 and 42.
When applying the parking or trailer brake
manual control valve, the pressure in port 43
decreases. Piston 7 moves upwards and valve 4
opens; spring 8 prevents passage 5 from
opening. Supply air from port 11 goes to port 22
causing the trailer to brake.
Venting feature
If the trailer control line is damaged when
braking, there is no increase in pressure in the
control line. The pressure from the parking
circuit (port 43) pushes piston 7 to its lowest
position. The pressure from the service brake
circuits pushes piston 2 and 9 downwards. As
there is no pressure under piston 3, it is pushed
down. Valve 4 is closed and the passage between
port 11 and 12 is almost fully interrupted, only
passage 11 is open. Passage 11 is too small to
pressurize port 22. The pressure from port 12 is
vented through the leakage in port 22.
General
There are many different designs of trailer brake
connections from a large number of
manufacturers. The two most common types are
described below: ISO connection, DUO-Matic
connection.

General
The supply dump valve is a part of the brake
system on T124GA6x4 in Mexico. This brake
system has been adapted to the conditions in the
USA.
The supply dump valve for the trailer supply air
is connected to the parking and trailer brake
circuits. Together with the manual control valve
(61d), without test position, the supply dump
valve ensures trailer parking brake operation
with the lever in parking position.

General
The quick release valve is a part of the brake
system on T124GA6x4. This brake system has
been adapted to the conditions in the USA.
The quick release valve is used to quickly
evacuate the control line to the trailer when
completing braking.
To avoid problems with a cracking diaphragm in
the quick release valve, a new valve with a
stronger diaphragm has been introduced. The
new quick release valve has been introduced
105 891
from chassis number SLA 3505275.
Work Description
Trailer brake circuit
Only personnel with adequate training and knowledge are allowed to carry out work on the brake system. If problems yet arise, the immediate superior should be send for.
When working on the brake system, make sure you always follow the instructions, in order to avoid accidents and injuries.
Fitting
1 Fit the pipe connections to the valve.
2 Fit the parking and trailer brake valves.
Feed the hoses into position afterwards.
