INTRODUCTION

In this work we will be talking about one of the most relevant topics in the world.
Global problems are some of the biggest challenges that affect all of humanity and
transcend national borders. These problems have a significant impact on societies,
the economy and the environment globally. We will be breaking down a few or the
most renowned ones that make a break in today's society.
A differential concept will be shown and individually of everything that these global
challenges that the globe faces entails, an individualistic comment is generated on
the perception that the material below gives us, it is expected that the presentation
will provide clarity in each of them. the topics or problems in general, clearing up
ideas and arguments.
Global Issues
Every day, we see in
the media and on social
networks various news
and events that have to
do with serious
problems in today's
society. Hunger, war,
climate change... are
terms that we are
unfortunately getting
used to. They are
problems that concern
us and on which we
can act even with a
small contribution that, added to that of everyone else, can change things.
The reality that exists in different parts of the world is different; Therefore, it is
important that we learn to open our eyes and raise awareness about the problems
of today's world globally, not only to know them, but to know what their causes are,
learn to prevent them and look for solutions.

The main consequence of these problems

Each of these problems in society has a main consequence: the forced
displacement of people. Currently, there are 110 million displaced people in the
world, a number that continues to increase year after year due mainly to wars,
hunger and climate change. And all these problems are totally related to each
other and the consequence is always the same: people fleeing their home in
search of a safe place.

What are the current

problems of society?
1. Hunger
According to the latest World Food Crises Report, in 2022 around 258 million
people in 58 countries and territories were in crisis contexts with acute food
insecurity. The number of people requiring urgent food, nutrition and livelihood
assistance increased for the fourth consecutive year in 2022. This represents an
increase of up to 22.7% compared to the previous year when the number was 193
million people in 53 countries. “More than 250 million people currently face acute
levels of hunger, and some are on the brink of starvation. “This is unacceptable,”
said Mr. Antonio Gutiérrez, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in the
foreword to the report.
The existence of hunger is due to two fundamental factors: conflicts and changes
in the climate. Conflicts have a multitude of effects from a food point of view in the
countries that suffer them, especially if they last over time. The situation worsens
when people's lives depend on agriculture and when there are difficulties in
accessing food in the markets.
Comment: The world is not on track to
achieve the Sustainable Development
Goal which includes, as indicated by
the organizations, Zero Hunger by
2030. It is likely that the food security
and nutritional status of the most
vulnerable population groups will
deteriorate further due to the
repercussions of society and the
economy.

2. Poverty
It is another of the great current problems of society. When we talk about poverty, it
is something that goes beyond the lack of income and resources to have
sustainable livelihoods, it is also a human rights problem. Among the
manifestations of poverty are hunger, malnutrition, limited access to basic services
such as education or health, or lack of housing.
According to World Bank estimates, 12.7% of the world's population lives on less
than 1.9 euros a day. For almost 25 years, the number of people living in extreme
poverty has steadily decreased, but this trend was interrupted in 2020 with the
arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, conflict and climate change.
According to the FAO report, the economic recession resulting from conflict
reduces employment and income and, therefore, people's ability to feed
themselves. Likewise, the aforementioned report maintains that poverty reduction
is more important in peaceful and stable countries. In fact, it is estimated that each
year of violence can slow the decline in poverty by 1%.

Comment: Let's keep in mind that

poverty rates in the world have
been reduced by more than half
since 2000, but all that effort with
the COVID-19 pandemic could
increase global poverty until it
affects 500 million more people, but
just as there was an improvement
before, we expect it to happen
again.

3. The climate emergency

It is estimated that every year more than 20 million people are forced to leave their
homes and move to safer places due to climate change. The climate emergency
causes extreme weather phenomena such as cyclones, hurricanes, torrential rains
that cause floods or extreme droughts for very long periods of time.
This affects us all, but especially the most vulnerable population on the planet,
either due to their geographical location or because they do not have the
necessary resources to take measures to prevent it. Unfortunately, the countries
that have contributed the least to the emergence of climate change are those that
are most affected by it.

Comment: Climate change is one of the

greatest challenges of our time. From changing
weather patterns threatening food production to
rising sea levels increasing the risk of
catastrophic flooding, the effects of climate
change are among the most prominent globally
and on an unprecedented scale.
4. Conflicts
Today there are hundreds of active conflicts and wars around the world. From the
best known, such as the war in Ukraine, to others that do not appear as much in
the media but are equally relevant, such as Yemen, Syria or Sudan. These
conflicts evidently not only have material consequences but also human ones.
Having to flee your home with nothing means that you change places, that you
face the future with great uncertainty and that your life and that of your family may
be in danger. These situations also usually generate problems that are not as
visible as depression, anxiety or fear in boys and girls. Assistance to refugees or
internally displaced persons, therefore, cannot focus only on meeting their basic
needs for shelter and food, but must also extend to all those less visible
consequences.
Comment: This is the main motivation
for the creation of the United Nations,
whose founders had suffered the
devastation of two world wars, and their
desire was to preserve future
generations from the scourge of war,
which seems to me to be an unmatched
action.

5. Racism
Discrimination based on race is one of the causes that causes the displacement of
thousands of people in the world, who are forced to leave their homes. This type of
discrimination also has other variants that are reflected in the limitations or
requirements for asylum seekers, the denial of access to public services under
conditions of equality or the denial of nationality, incitement to hatred or abuse.
verbal and physical. Fear of diversity or people who come from other countries is
usually at the base of this discrimination. Therefore, refugees in these situations
need special protection.

Comment: As people demand more

opportunities and more just, equitable and
progressive solutions in their societies or
social groups, the challenges that this
population sector faces (access to
employment and gender equality) urgently
need to be addressed. …)
6. Gender violence
Gender violence can be another cause of forced displacement. It is a serious
problem that endangers the lives of women and girls, their physical and emotional
integrity, and their development as people. For this reason, UNHCR protects them
in a special way to guarantee that they receive comprehensive assistance. And
half of the refugee and displaced population in the world are women and girls.
They are the ones who must leave their homes, flee and expose themselves to all
kinds of dangers along the way until they reach a safe place. It is important to
consider that gender violence is not something that only affects the refugee
population but also women from all over the world.

Comment: Women and girls

make up half of the world's
population and as such mostly
half of its potential. Gender
equality, in addition to being a
fundamental human right, is
essential to achieve peaceful
societies, with full human
potential and sustainable
development for any society in
the world.
CONCLUSIONS

These problems cannot be effectively addressed by a single country or individual,

as they require the cooperation and commitment of the international community. To
solve global problems, long-term solutions are needed that involve governments,
international organizations, businesses, civil society and citizens around the world.
It is important to address global problems in a comprehensive and sustainable
way, taking into account the interconnections between them. For example, climate
change can have devastating effects on the economy and food security, which in
turn can increase poverty and conflict. Therefore, it is essential to adopt a holistic
approach to address these challenges and promote sustainable development
globally.
In short, global problems are challenges that affect all of humanity and require the
collaboration and commitment of all international actors to find effective and
sustainable solutions.
