48 OG - F-15C Flying Training Syllabus
48 OG - F-15C Flying Training Syllabus
i
SYLLABUS GUIDANCE
The 493 FS Flying Training Syllabus gives the requirements for Mission Qualification
Training, all Flight Lead Training, Mission Commander Training, and Instructor Pilot Training.
Additionally, the Night Vision Goggle and Joint Helmet-Mounted Cueing System upgrades are
included as annexes and can be combined with any upgrade. Ground or flight training
requirements or tasks may be modified at the discretion of the Squadron Commander; however,
as a minimum, the MQT program in this syllabus will be followed as written for B-course
graduates. For TX-course graduates, the Squadron Commander may alter this program to
accommodate the background, experience, and demonstrated capabilities of the individual pilots.
Any changes from this syllabus must be approved by the Squadron Commander and posted in
the individual’s gradebook until completion of the program.
The intent of the 493 FS Flying Training Syllabus is to give basic guidance for upgrade
requirements. The 493 FS has the freedom to build on or expand the outlines within the syllabus
to meet the changing threat and tactics. The 493 FS Flying Training Syllabus will be reviewed
on a yearly basis. Any changes or amendments that add or delete specific training or
requirements will be added or deleted and approved by 48 OG/CC.
The missions and events required for successful upgrade meet or exceed HHQ
requirements.
SCHEDULING GUIDANCE
The force ratio numbers, including blue and red force requirements, are to be used for
scheduling purposes only. When scheduling upgrade sorties, the requirements stated in this
syllabus are the desired numbers which will provide the upgrading pilot with a challenging, yet
manageable, tactical scenario. If these numbers are unachievable for any reason (maintenance
non-delivery, ground aborts, scheduling limitations, etc), whether in the mission planning phase
or actual execution, the instructor of record will determine the effectiveness of the sortie, if
applicable.
TRAINING DOCUMENTATION
GRADESHEETS
ii
Alternate mission profiles are limited to maneuvers, mission events and mission profiles
that have been flown to a 2-level or higher on a previous syllabus training sortie. Supervisors
will evaluate the need for removal of a student from any upgrade program where several X rides
are required.
Grades will be assigned to the overall mission and to each task within the mission.
Overall mission grades are as follows:
Any grade that is not a “2” requires amplifying remarks on the gradesheet. The overall
mission grade reflects the IP’s evaluation of overall performance for that stage of the upgrade
program. Individual task grades are as follows:
Individual tasks that are graded as a “1” do not require an overall mission grade of “1” if
proficiency was not required to be demonstrated on that ride. Any specific mission events that
are not accomplished (i.e., Practice Min fuel recovery) will be graded as U and annotated on the
gradesheet as incomplete with the specific reason. The event will also be left incomplete on the
Syllabus Events log. All mission tasks will be accomplished before the end of any upgrade
program, else the final ride will be annotated as incomplete and the task will be accomplished as
soon as possible. Questions regarding grading should be discussed with the Weapons Officer,
Operations Officer, or Squadron Commander.

iv
Mission Qualification Training
* At least one Perch BFM sortie should be flown with a WIC graduate, if possible.
** A qualified squadron supervisor may fly MQT-12
Notes:
1. All MQT sorties should be accomplished with JHMCS/NVGs if equipment availability allows.
2. AGSM will be evaluated on all sorties. Any deficiencies noted will be documented on the associated
MQT gradesheet and brought to the attention of the Squadron DO prior to the UP’s next flight.
3. If more than 14 calendar days have elapsed between sorties, an additional review sortie will be flown
prior to continuing the MQT program (AFI 11-2F-15 Vol. I).
4. MQT-1 through MQT-SIM 3 (TI Launch and Leave) will be flown in order.
5. It is desired to complete MQT SIM-5 prior to the MQT-8 certification, but not required.
6. AAR accomplished in Initial Qualification Training (IQT) may fulfill MQT requirements as
determined by the SQ/CC.
7. Minimum numbers required on all rides are for fallout situations, not for minimum scheduling.

3. UP will understand JHMCS special subjects including the potential for display fixation, task
management / saturation, employment in low-light conditions (i.e., under an overcast), low
altitude considerations, emergency ground egress and ejection risks
4. Academics will be accomplished within 60 days prior to accomplishing MQT SIM-1. If more
than 60 days elapse prior to MQT SIM-1, pilots must review the academics. If more than 180
days elapse between completion of JHMCS academics and MQT SIM-1, pilots must re-
accomplish JHMCS academics.
Mission Preparation:
1. Read T.O. 1F-15A-1, 1F-15C-34-1-3, & 1F-15A-34-1-1-4 (S/NF) regarding JHMCS and

Instructor Pilot Upgrade
Notes:
1. The Squadron Commander may alter this program to accommodate the background, experience, and
demonstrated capabilities of individual pilots. IPUG sorties may be combined with MQT, 2-FL, NVG, or
JHMCS upgrade sorties. When combined with other upgrade sorties, the UIP’s Instructor must be able to
monitor all aspects of the sortie to include briefing, flight conduct, and debrief. This may be done:
- In a D-model for any mission.
- In any flight position of a BLUE 4-Ship employing together.
- As red air when allowed by DO/CC.
2. All IP upgrade sorties will be flown with a qualified IP in that event.
3. In order to qualify as a JHMCS IP, UIPs must be JHMCS qualified and demonstrate proficiency in briefing,
executing and debriefing a minimum of one sortie with JHMCS (HABFM, ACM or greater). UIPs will not be
qualified as JHMCS IPs until they have passed their IP certification ride.
4. G Awareness Exercise will be evaluated on IP-1 and IP-2 as a minimum during tape review. The Anti-G-
Straining Maneuver will be evaluated on all rides during tactical maneuvering.
5. The IP check ride may be flown prior to IP-9, 10, and/or 11 in which case the UIP may be certified as a qualified
instructor pilot, but will not instruct LOWAT, NINT, or Live Gun until these events have been accomplished
under the supervision of a qualified LOWAT, NINT, or Live Gun IP.
