Critical Path - 1
Critical Path - 1
Set 1:
900 vehicles travel each day from point A to Point Z on a network of one-way roads as
shown in the diagram below. Points P, Q, R, S and T are junctions in the network. The
number adjacent to the ray depicting each road stands for the cost (in Rs.) of travelling on
that road. Each vehicle takes the path of least cost from A to Z. If two or more paths have
the same cost, then the vehicles are equally distributed on those paths.

1. What is the total cost of travel (in Rs.) for the first 300 vehicles each day?
A. 3900 B. 4200 C. Rs. 5400 D. 11700
3. If cost of travel is reduced by Rs. 5 for each vehicle on road S-T, how many vehicles will
pass through junction T each day?
A. 225 B. 300 C. 450 D. 600
4. If the cost of travel on the road Q-Z is decreased by Re. 1, and cost of travel on roads A-R
and A-S are to be changed in such a manner that 450 vehicles pass through junction T each
day without making any other change in the cost of travel on any other road, which of the
following should be the cost of travel (in Rs.) for each vehicle on roads A-R and A-S
respectively?
i. 3 and 2
ii. 4 and 1
iii. 5 and 1
A. Only i B. Only ii C. Only iii D. Any of i , ii or iii
5. Which of the following independent changes would ensure that all vehicles pass through
junction T each day?
i. Cost of travel on road R-Z increased by Re. 1.
ii. Cost of travel on road P-Q increased by Rs. 2
iii. Cost of travel on road A-S decreased by Rs. 6
A. Only iii B. i or ii
C. i and ii D. Either i and ii or iii
6. Which of the following independent changes would ensure that the number of vehicles
passing through junction T each day is twice the number of vehicles passing through
junction Q each day?
i. Cost of travel on road R-Z increased by Re. 1.
ii. Cost of travel on road P-Q increased by Rs. 2
iii. Cost of travel on road A-S decreased by Rs. 5
A. Only iii B. i or iii
C. i and iii D. Only ii
