ECE202 - Physical Development of the Child

Fall, 2023
Assignment 1
By-Pin✌️ and Muhammad

Total Marks: 20

Solution Question: 1

Four practices for maintaining good posture in various positions, along with relevant
examples:

1. Sit up straight at a desk: Keep your back straight, shoulders relaxed, and feet flat on
the floor. Avoid slouching or leaning forward. Example: Sitting upright with proper
alignment while working on a computer.

2. Stand tall: Maintain proper alignment by keeping your head, shoulders, and hips in
line. Avoid slumping or arching your back. Example: Standing with good posture while
waiting in line.

3. Lift with your legs: When lifting heavy objects, use your leg muscles to lift, rather than
straining your back. Bend your knees and keep your back straight. Example: Squatting
down to pick up a heavy box.

4. Sleep in a supportive position: Choose a mattress and pillow that provide adequate
support for your neck and spine. Avoid sleeping on your stomach, as it can strain your
neck and back. Example: Sleeping on your side with a supportive pillow.

Solution Question: 2

Four activities to improve postural control in children:

1. Balance exercises: Engage children in activities that challenge their balance, such as
walking on a balance beam, standing on one leg, or playing hopscotch. These activities
help strengthen core muscles and improve stability.
2. Yoga or Pilates: Introduce children to yoga or Pilates classes that focus on body
awareness, alignment, and strengthening core muscles. These practices can improve
posture and enhance postural control.

3. Sports and active play: Encourage children to participate in sports or activities that
require good posture, such as swimming, martial arts, or ballet. These activities promote
muscle strength, coordination, and postural control.

4. Posture exercises: Teach children specific exercises that target postural muscles,
such as shoulder blade squeezes, wall slides, or planks. These exercises help develop
strength and endurance in the muscles that support good posture.

By incorporating these activities into children's routines, they can improve their postural
control and develop healthy posture habits that will benefit them in the long run.
