Tom Monaghan and his brother James purchase
"Dominick's," a pizza store in Ypsilanti, Michigan. After some days James trades his half of the business to Tom for a Volkswagen Beetle. Tom Monaghan is sole owner of company, and renames the business "Domino's Pizza, Inc." In 1983 Domino's first international store opens in Winnipeg, Canada. Also first Domino's store opens on the Australian continent, in Queensland, Australia. In 1985 Domino's opens 954 units, for a total of 2,841, making Domino's the fastest-growing pizza company in the country. In this year first Domino's store opens in the United Kingdom, in Luten, England, also on the continent of Asia, in Minato, Japan. In 1988 first Domino's store opens on the South America continent, in Bogota, Columbia. In 1989 Pan Pizza, the company's first new product, introduced. In 1992 Domino's rolls out bread sticks, the company's first national non-pizza menu item.
