ABSTRACT

FARMCONNECT
“From Farm To Click, It’s All Here”

FARMCONNECT is a pioneering digital agricultural marketplace that redefines the way we connect with
agriculture. With a vision to bridge the gap between farms and consumers, FARMCONNECT offers a
comprehensive online platform and mobile application.

For years, farmers in India have faced limited choices in selecting markets and buyers for their produce.
State-owned mandis, or retail markets, have traditionally dictated the marketing and selling of farm
products, often subjecting farmers to mediators seeking to maximize their margins.

Research reveals that these intermediaries have become dominant players in the agricultural market,
controlling the fate of farmers and absorbing the lion's share of profits. Typically, up to 70% of a farmer's
earnings are claimed by middlemen, leaving them in a precarious position.

We present a revolutionary system through a mobile and web application that serves as a direct platform for
farmers, growers, retailers, and consumers to connect and trade agricultural products. Our aim is to bring
farmers closer to retailers, eliminating the influence of middlemen and ensuring that farmers receive fair
compensation for their hard work and investment.

Project Objectives:

1. Fair Pricing for Farmers: By cutting out middlemen, FARMCONNECT aims to provide farmers with
a profitable price for their farm products, allowing retailers and consumers to access quality products
at a lower cost.
2. Efficient Farmer-User Interaction: The system facilitates a direct connection between farmers and
users. Farmers can upload product details, and buyers can view, book, and purchase these products
within a specified timeframe.

INTRODUCTION

FARMCONNECT - Revolutionizing Agriculture in the Digital Age

In the heartland of agriculture, where the toil of farmers sustains nations, emerges FARMCONNECT—a
pioneering digital agricultural marketplace committed to reshaping the traditional contours of the
agricultural supply chain. With a resolute vision to empower farmers and bridge the gap between agriculture
and technology, FARMCONNECT introduces a comprehensive online platform and mobile application
poised to transform how we connect with and consume agricultural products.

The Agricultural Conundrum:

For years, farmers in India have faced a labyrinth of challenges in bringing their produce to market. The
conventional channels, primarily state-owned mandis, often subject farmers to the whims of intermediaries
who wield disproportionate control over pricing and distribution. Research reveals that these middlemen not
only dictate market dynamics but also claim a significant portion of farmers' hard-earned profits, leaving
them in a perpetual struggle for fair compensation.

FARMCONNECT's Vision:

At the core of FARMCONNECT lies a commitment to rebalance this equation. Our digital agricultural
marketplace serves as a beacon of change, aiming to eliminate intermediaries and facilitate a direct
connection between farmers and consumers. We envision a future where farmers have the autonomy to
showcase their produce directly to consumers, ensuring transparency, fair pricing, and the elimination of
exploitative intermediaries.

Key Features Reshaping Agriculture:

FARMCONNECT introduces a suite of key features designed to revolutionize the agricultural landscape.
From direct farmer-consumer interactions to real-time inventory tracking, seamless ordering, and
educational resources for farmers, each element contributes to creating an efficient, transparent, and
equitable marketplace.
6
Objectives:

Our primary objectives include providing farmers with a profitable price for their produce, cutting out
middlemen, and creating a system where farmers and users can interact seamlessly. FARMCONNECT
aspires not only to redefine the connection between farms and consumers but also to foster a sustainable and
mutually beneficial ecosystem.

LITERATURE REVIEW

A literature survey for FARMCONNECT, a digital agricultural marketplace, would involve reviewing
existing academic research, articles, and publications related to topics such as online agricultural
marketplaces, e-commerce in agriculture, and the impact of digital platforms on the agricultural industry.
Here is a brief literature survey that provides an overview of key findings and trends in these areas:

1) IMPLEMENTING E-COMMERCE MODEL FOR AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE

The advancement in technology and the increase in usage of Internet access has revolutionized the landscape
of agriculture using E-Commerce. Several E-Commerce websites are operative in India to promote
uniformity in agricultural marketing across the integrated markets by removing information asymmetry
between buyers and sellers [1].

2) DIGITAL MARKET: E-COMMERCE APPLICATION FOR FARMERS

The term digital market means a platform that is dedicated to integrate farmer, Merchant/Markets,
government and end user and thereby bridge the gap between them. It also let everyone to be updated with
the changing market scenario. Indian farmers faced many challenges and one of them is that to get a good
profit for the efforts and investment that they had put in [2].

3) ADOPTATION OF E-COMMERCE MARKETING ON AGRICULTURE PRODUCT

This is an era of digitalization. Every sector had been brought into this digitalization, and agriculture also
growing with the help of IT. As many of the agricultural lands are located in rural areas, to help the farmers
in good output and to enjoy many benefits they are advised to use the latest agricultural technologies. By
using these technologies it will be very easy for the farmers to fix rate for their product [3].

4) AGRICULTURE E-COMMERCE FOR INCREASING REVENUE OF FARMERS USING CLOUD

AND WEB TECHNOLOGIES

7
The main intent of this survey is to develop a agriculture marketing system to assist in the sale and
management of production for the farmer [4].

5) E-COMMERCE SITE FOR AGRICULTURE PRODUCTS

E-commerce is clearly beginning to have a major impact in the agricultural sector. The way people go about
purchasing agricultural products is of great concern. Most of the time customers have to travel far distances
to get agricultural products and getting the right quality is not ensured. Our project aims to help farmers as
well as customers for buying and selling agricultural products across the country using a computerized
approach [5].

6) STAUTES AND SCOPE OF E-COMMERCE IN AGRIBUSINESS IN INDIA

In today’s agriculture and the food supply chain in general, there appears a history of quick adoption and
assimilation of new technologies, especially cost reduction technologies. Agriculture was identified as one of
the great promises of e-commerce due to the high level of fragmentation present in the supply chain, large
volumes traded, and homogeneous products only reinforced the expectations [6].

7) IMPACT OF E-COMMERCE ADOPTION ON FARMERS’ PARTICIPATION IN THE DIGITAL

FINANCIAL MARKET: EVIDENCE FROM RURAL CHINA

Although the increasing adoption of digital finance in recent years has exerted a wide-ranging influence on
farmers’ consumption and production activities, many farmers in China still seriously suffer from digital
financial exclusion. Few studies have documented the different impacts of ecommerce adoption
characterized by online purchases and sales on farmers’ participation in the digital financial market measured
by their engagement in digital payments, digital wealth management, and digital credit in rural China [7].
