Statement of the Problem

This study will assess parents' expectations of their children and how their children respond to their

expectations. We aim to determine their level of parental expectations and its interrelationship with

the level of the students' educational goals.

1. What is the level of Parental Expectations of Grade 12 Students in San Agustin National High in

terms of :

a. Achievements; and

b. Behavior?

2.What is the level of Educational Goals of respondents in terms of :

a. Academic Performance;

b. Attitude; and

c. College Readiness?

d. Career Choice?

3. Is there any significant relationship between Parental Expectations and Educational Goals ?

4. Is there any significant difference on the Educational Goals of the respondents when grouped

according to strand?

expectations on students' educational goals. The study covers various aspects, such as the role of

parents in career choice, academic pressure, and the long-term impact on students' life choices.
Smith et al. (2020) delve into the psychological consequences of parental expectations on students,

including stress, self-esteem, and identity development. The research highlights the importance of

addressing the mental well-being of students in the context of parental influence.

Theoretical Framework

This study is base on Parents' expectations have been demonstrated to play a significant effect in

their children's academic progress. Students whose parents have high expectations obtain better
grades, perform better at school, and stay in school longer versus students whose parents have low

expectations.

The role of parental expectations in.affecting children's academic progress has received substantial

attention from.psychologists and sociologists over the past half century. In general,

parental.expectations have been found to play a critical role in children's academic success.Students

whose parents hold high expectations receive higher grades,achieve higher scores on standardized

tests, and persist longer in school than dothose whose parents hold relatively lowexpectations

(Davis-Kean 2005; Pearce2006; Vartanian et al. 2007).

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This research aims to see how students' educational goals (dependent variable) are affected by

parental expectations (independent variable). Parental expectations were divided into two

components, parental expectations in terms of students' behavior and in terms of students'

achievement. Educational goals were divided into four components, achievements, academic

performance, attitude, college readiness and career choice.

Significance of the Study

This study will assess parents' expectations of their children and how their children respond to their

expectations. Since parents greatly influence their children, a study on it and its impact on their

children's educational goals would:

Parents. Parents tend to greatly influence their children. With that situation, the study findings will

help the parents to influence their children more positively.


Students. Nowadays, a lot of students depend on their parents. With that situation, the study

findings will help them determine which situation they should depend on their parents and which

situation they should decide for themselves.

Definition of Terms

Parents. The term refers not only to the one who brought the students to life but also to the one who

raised the students who are not related by blood.

Parental Expectations. The term refers to the parents' desires about their children's academic

performance and professional ambitions.

Students' Educational Goals. The term refers to the students objectives and milestones they set

for themselves regarding their education.
