Instruction Question 2: Is instruction done in small groups, centers, whole groups, individual? >>>

Instruction is done in whole groups. Typically with all students at their


desk and the teacher at the front giving instruction.
Instruction Question 3: How would you describe your cooperating teacher’s teaching style? >>>

She uses more of a visual teaching style. She is using her


SmartBoard to show different, (fun and pretty) slideshows.
Instruction Question 4: Does the teacher incorporate the sensory modalities (learning styles)? If so, give examples. >>>

She does a great job of incorporating all learning styles, so every kid
can have an equal opportunity of learning. She has different projects
and hands-on activities, as well as her slideshows.
Instruction Question 5: Do the students seem engaged in the lesson(s) that are being presented? Please explain. >>>

Yes, she does a great job of keeping her students engaged. Everyone
was raising their hands to answer questions. Everyone was
participating in reading aloud.
Instruction Question 6: Explain the use of culturally relevant materials, teaching strategies, class décor, etc. that meet the needs of today’s
culturally diverse student population. >>>

Yes, all of the characters used match the skin colors of the student.
The crayons that they have use all skin colors. They don’t have a US
flag in their classroom, which I found interesting.
Instruction Question 7: Is instructional time managed efficiently? Please explain >>>

Yes it is. She is all about routine and schedule. Each activity has a
certain amount of time allowed. That’s exactly how I’ll be as a teacher,
because I value routine and schedule too.
Instruction Question 8: How does the cooperating teacher handle transitions from one subject or period to another, and are these
transitions efficient? >>>
Yes, the transitions are very smooth. The kids already know exactly
what is next, because it is the same every day. The kids seem to
appreciate the routine, so they know exactly what is next.
Instruction Question 9: List ways that the teacher attempts any “attention getting” commands? (Ex: Countdown, Light flicker, Heads on
Desk) How effective are they? >>>

She uses one that works very well, called “waterfall”. Whenever she
says waterfall, all students shhhh to make the cat classroom sound
like a waterfall. Describes everyone’s attention, and makes a CLASS
quiet and focus again. I definitely want something fun like this as an
attention getter when I am a teacher. This is the only attention getter I
saw her use, because her class was very good at listening, so it was
only use one absolutely necessary.
Instruction Question 10: What specific behavior issues does the teacher have to deal with? How does the teacher deal with these behavior
issues? Be specific. >>>

Students getting off topic. During a lesson kids would raise their hands
to talk about unrelated things. She would not further this discussion
when they did this. She would simply correct them and go on with the
lesson.
Instruction Question 11: Are there any policies or procedures in place that help or hinder instructional time? If so, explain them and how
they help or hinder use of instructional time. >>>

They started a new thing called “phoenix” which is a very strict outline
of what they have to teach (she has to read specifically out of the
book) I think this is a helpful thing, as long as the teacher has a
positive attitude and mindset about it.
Instruction Question 12: What philosophical teaching orientation(s) best describes this teacher? Give examples. >>>

She portrays progressivism. For example she rewards kids for


progress not only completion.
Instruction Question 13: Outline the lesson plan for a teaching lesson you observed. What preparations in advance were need for teaching
the lesson? >>>

Bell ringer- opening slideshow: included videos, quotes, etc.


Reading-had audio prepared and printed out for everyone.
Slides- for suffix and prefix lesson
“Phoenix” book- to read lessons from
Instruction Question 14: Describe both teacher and student uses of technology in the classroom. >>>

Teacher uses the smart board for almost everything. And the students
use their chromebooks for certain assignments.
