HOW TO DRAW DIFFERENT EMOTIONS IN ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

Now let's start creating emotional avatars.

Create a 500x500 px document (Ctrl + N) . Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to create an oval - this is the head of our girl.
Draw another oval on top, a larger one - this is a blank for the hair. You can copy the oval of the head (Control-C) ,
paste it in the same place (Control-F) and enlarge it slightly. Let's paint it in a cheerful red color.
Delete the bottom point of the oval with the Pen Tool (P) .
We will press the rest up. Transform the lateral points using the Anchor Point Tool (Shift + C) and make a neat bang for
the future girl.
Queue behind the neck. Draw a rectangle in the color of the head.
Now let's make a shadow on the neck. Copy and paste the oval of the head in the same place (Ctrl + C, Ctrl + F) , move
it a little lower and paint it in a darker color.
Copy and Paste the neck rectangle (Ctrl + C, Ctrl + F) . Add a dark oval to the selection. In
the Pathfinder panel, click Intersect . We now have a dark piece of the neck.
Adjust it under the head (Ctrl + [) .
Now let's make the girl's hair behind her head. Let's draw a large horizontal oval in the color of the girl's bangs. And
also send it back (Ctrl + [) .
Use the Anchor Point Tool (Shift + C) to transform the side points of the oval and create the girl's hairstyle.
You can correct the bangs if it comes out not as pretty as the rest of the hairstyle :)
Now let's make the shoulders. Use the Rectangle Tool (M) to draw a rectangle in the colors of the head and neck.
Use the Direct Selection Tool (A) with the Shift key to select the top markers on the rectangle and drag them downward,
rounding the shoulders (available only in Ai CC). If you have an older version of Illustrator, you can use the free Round
Any Corner script for rounding . Or initially draw a rectangle with rounded corners (Rounded Rectangle Tool) , and cut
off its lower part so that the fillet remains only on top.
Let's dress the girl in a sweater. Copy and paste the girl's shoulders in the same place and recolor it in some even more
cheerful color, for example, green :)
Now the neck of the sweater. With the SHIFT key held «Alt» drag down the shape of the face - to get a copy. Raise it to
the very top (Shift + Ctrl +]) . We reduce and stretch it so that the future neckline suits us.
Add our sweater to the selection. In Pathfinder's Pathfinder panel, hit Minus Front - and voila! Our girl is dressed.
Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to add some blush to the cheeks.
Our template is ready. Select all objects (Ctrl + A) and group (Ctrl + G) . To prevent the template from interfering with
our further actions, fix it (Ctrl + 2) .

Create your first emotion

You can start with the eyes. Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to draw a vertical blue oval.
Select it and drag it slightly upwards while holding down the Alt key - a copy is obtained. We repaint it black - this will
be the upper eyelid with cilia.
Select the blue oval, copy (Ctrl + C) , paste it in the same place (Ctrl + F) and raise it to the very top (Shift + Ctrl
+]) . With the Alt key held down, flatten it a little at the top and bottom. Then add a black oval to the selection and
press Minus Front in the Pathfinder panel .
Remove the remaining black piece at the bottom and get the upper eyelid.
Use the Pen Tool (P) to place a dot on the eyelid and move it to the side - these are the future cilia.
Use the Direct Selection Tool (A) and Anchor Point (Shift + C) to correct the cilia.
Select the eye with cilia, group (Ctrl + G) , while holding down the "Alt" key, shift it to the left to create a copy, and on
the "Transform" panel select the item "Mirror horizontally" (Transform> Reflect> Vertical) .
Now let's give the girl a smile. Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to draw a horizontal red oval. And remove the top point from it
with the Pen Tool (P) .
Use the Anchor Point Tool (Shift + C) and Direct Selection Tool (A) to correct the smile so that it becomes cute.
Now let's make the eyebrows. Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to draw a horizontal oval for the hair color.
Below we will create another oval of any color. Let's make it a little wider than the bottom one.
Select both ovals and hit the Minus Front in the Pathfinder's Pathfinder panel .
It turned out to be a perky eyebrow. Copy it and flip it horizontally - move it to the side with the Alt key held down and
select the Mirror Horizontal item in the Transform panel (Transform> Reflect> Vertical) .
Our girl smiles :)
Now let's make her sad

Create a copy of the smiling girl layer by choosing Duplicate from the Layers panel 's pull-down menu or by dragging
the layer name onto the new sheet icon at the bottom of the Layers panel .

Let's name the old layer, for example, "Smile" and close the "eye" on it , making it invisible. Let 's name the new
layer "Sadness" and continue working with it.

Or, if you are not comfortable working with layers when creating avatars, you can copy them to separate artboards. To
do this, in the artboards panel, select the Duplicate Artboard command... A copy of the girl will appear on a separate
sheet next to it. You can read more about working with multi-artboard files in this tutorial: Artboards in Adobe
Illustrator.
Well, for me personally, layers seem more convenient. So let's continue with them :)
Select the eyebrow in the Transform panel (Transform> Rotate) and set the rotation angle to 170 degrees .

Repeat the same with the other eyebrow, and rotate the mouth 180 degrees .
Let's flatten it a little from the top and bottom with the Alt key held down .
Well, we upset her :(
That's not all - we'll make her cry

Duplicate the "Sadness" layer and name the copy "Sob" , and make the "Sadness" layer invisible by closing the "eye" in
the "Layers" panel .

Select the mouth and lower it a little lower, and raise its top point with the Direct Selection Tool (A) .
Let's create the teeth of the upset girl. Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to draw a horizontal white oval.
Copy the mouth (Ctrl + C) and paste it in the same place (Ctrl + F) . Add a white oval to the selection and
press Intersect in the Pathfinder panel .
Move the resulting teeth slightly upward to create the appearance of the lower lip.
Now let's close our eyes tragically :) Remove the blue oval of the eye, and flatten the remaining black eyelashes a little
from the top and bottom with the Alt key held down .
But this is not enough for real sobbing. Let's add streams of tears.

Use the Rectangle Tool (M) to create a blue rectangle in place of the future stream. Use the Direct Selection Tool (A)
to select the top right handle and drag downward to round our waterfall (only available in Ai CC).
Hold down the "Alt" key and move the blue object to the left and create a copy of it. Let's repaint the copy with a
contrasting color to see where the border of our tears will go.
Using the Direct Selection Tool (A), drag the top right handle upward, reducing the fillet so that the bottom and top
objects touch on the top edge. Select both objects and press Minus Front in the Pathfinder panel .
There was a whole stream of tears.
Let's make a copy of it by moving it with the "Alt" key pressed to the other eye and flip it horizontally by selecting the
item "Mirror horizontally" in the "Transform" panel (Transform> Reflect> Vertical) .

Our girl is crying :(

We will have pity on our girl and will make her happy

Duplicate the "Sob" layer and name the copy "Joy" , and make the "Sob" layer invisible by closing the "eye" in
the "Layers" panel .

Select the eyebrows and flip them back 170 degrees .

Flip the mouth too, but 180 degrees .
Look, our girl is happy again! :)
And now we will surprise her

Just first, hide the "Joy" layer again by closing the "eye" in the "Layers" panel .

But now copy the "Smile" layer and name the copy "Surprise" . From this layer we will need the eyes and eyebrows. We
immediately remove the mouth, and turn the eyebrows 30 degrees .
Pull the eyes vertically by pulling the upper or lower marker while holding down the "Alt" key .
And now we select the eyes and eyebrows and raise everything up a little so that our girl has "eyes on her forehead"
from surprise :)
Now let's draw a surprised mouth. Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to create a vertical red oval.
Copy it (Ctrl + C) and paste it in the same place (Ctrl + F) .
A little higher, create an oval with a larger size and a contrasting color - it will show us the border of the teeth. Select
both ovals and press Minus Front in the Pathfinder panel .
It turned out teeth. Move them up a bit to create a sense of the presence of the lower lip.
Now our girl is surprised :)
And finally she got angry

Hide the "Surprise" layer by closing the "eye" in the "Layers" panel .
And again, now copy the "Smile" layer and name the copy "Anger" .

Reflect the eyebrows vertically by selecting the Mirror Vertical item in the Transform panel (Transform> Reflect>
Vertical) . And we move our eyebrows down a little, angry people - frowning.
Flatten the eye a little vertically by holding down the "Alt" key and pulling the top handle. And we turn 15 degrees .
Remove the mouth and draw a new one with the Ellipse Tool (L) .
Use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to move the top and bottom points of the oval towards each other.
At the lateral points, we stretch and tilt the antennae of the controllers so that we get a very angry mouth.
Create two white ovals for the teeth.
Select the mouth, copy (Ctrl + C) , paste it in the same place (Ctrl + F) and raise it to the very top (Shift + Ctrl +]) . Select
the mouth and one white oval and click on Intersect in the Pathfinder panel .
We repeat the same for the other teeth.
We move our teeth slightly away from the edge of the mouth - and now our girl is very angry! :)
Add some romance

Hide the "Anger" layer by closing the "eye" in the "Layers" panel .
And let's copy the layer “Joy” , name the copy, for example, “Love” :)

Let's create a heart in any way convenient for you. For example, here's one - push me. Or transform the circle, as I did.
Remove the eyelashes and put hearts in place of the eyes.
And turn the eyebrows 30 degrees .
Our girl clearly likes someone;)
Putting together a set

The only thing to do is to release the fixed objects on the current layer (Ctrl + Alt + 2) , select everything (Ctrl + A) and
group (Ctrl + G) .
Close the "eye" in the "Layers" panel .
Open the "eye" on the next layer and repeat everything.

Let's repeat the release and grouping on each layer. Then open all the "eyes" and place our avatars on the sheet. You can
set them exactly using the Align panel (Shift + F7) , or using the Magic Set Maker script .
Now you can create not only ordinary emotions for your characters, but also by combining eyes, eyebrows, mouths,
construct new facial expressions :)
