10. Lesson Sequence (Be sure to list time in the Pacing Section) Pacing
A. Brief Opening: (A teacher posted group or brief individual assignment.
Brief reading writing, editing, or problem-solving activity to ready them for
learning – may be a question about the rehearsal music or at the younger
levels it may be a learning activity to set up for today's lesson such as a "Do
Now.”)

Do Now: Listen to the song and tap your hand, foot, whatever, to the beat. (5 min)
(Teacher will play a song from the speakers as students come in. Now
instructions will be on the board when they come in.)

B. Learning Activities: (What learning experiences and instruction will enable B

students to achieve the desired results – have more learning activities than you
need.) 1. (10-15 min)
1.Movement Activity: Teacher will play quarter, half, whole, and eighth note
patterns on the piano. The students will be asked to “follow the music” and
move to it. They will be asked to march to the beat in a circle and switch ways
to the beat as a fun activity to get the rhythms in their bodies through
movement, and listening!

playing along to instrumentals of popular songs to make it more interesting for
the students.

Instruction Time: Teacher will begin to show and explain how the music the
students were just moving to is related to rhythm by introducing the quarter
note. They will already know what a quarter note sounds like because they
were just moving to them. (If there is time the next step is to explain that and
eighth note is half of a quarter note and relate it to what they had just heard and
danced to)
Using the music once again we will sing ta, ta, ta, ta, to the beat solidifying this
as quarter note (ta).
2. (10 min)
2. Teach “Bucket of water”, in unison, then split in half for rounds. (Next class
we would go back to Bucket of Water again and relate it to the ta, ti ti, quarter,
and eighth notes.)
