The Sanitary Wall Coating
To Practical Decorators
OR PRACTICAL DECORATORS who use
ALABASTINE we have prepared this list
of original stencil designs which are pecu-
liarly adpted to ALABASTINE work with its
beautiful and delicate tints, susceptible as they are
of being combined and intermixed. With a small
line of stencils, work may be done at the same
expense, more pleasing than wall paper effect to
the property owner, and at the same time that
will yield a better margin of profit than using wall
paper, to the man who does the work.

Mixing for Two Color Effects ,

IN WALL TINTING, two color work is very

popular. This can be produced by taking one of
our regular colors for a side wall, taking the same
color, mixing one part of color with from four to
six parts of white ALABASTINE for the ceiling,
or ceiling and frieze. One part color and six
parts of white ALABASTINE mixed together
makes very handsome ceiling and frieze effects,
biit if lesscontrast is desired a smaller amount of
white, say four parts, may be used. This deco-
rates the room in the same tone, lightening up the
ceiling. In doing this the side wall color may be
allowed to run clear to the ceiling, or the ceiling
color may be dropped down on the side wall the
width of a frieze and the colors separated by a gilt
or colored line, or, what is more usual, a picture
moulding. In this frieze running from 14 to 18
inches on an ordinary sized room, a nice stencil
design can be put on at a very reasonable expense
and most artistic effects are produced. This
stencil may be in this case stenciled on with the
side wall color. Another way is to take a certain
color for the side wall and a certain color for the
ceiling and frieze in the same manner as suggested.

2
The following colors go nicely together used in
this way:
Ceiling No. 23 and Side Walls No. 20, 24, 29, 33,
48, 54, 56.
Ceiling No. 20 and Side Walls No. 24, 28, 31, 33,
48, 49, 54, 56.
Ceiling No. 26 and Side VV^alls No. 20, 24, 31. 33.
Ceiling No. 22 and Side Walls No. 21, 28, 29, 31,
56.
Ceiling No. 52 and Side Walls No. 28, 31,
33, 48.
54, 56.
Ceiling White and Side Walls No. 20, 21. 22,' 23,
'
24, 26, 28, 29. 31. 52, 54.

An Endless Variety of Shades

THE ALABASTINE SHADES, in addition to
being mixed with white, may be combined and
intermixed to produce an endless variety of en-
tirely new colors. In doing this the goods should
be first prepared and stirred together dry. then
water added according to directions. In experi-*
menting by combining and intermixing for com-
bination tints, only a very small amount is neces-
sary. Mixed in different proportions dry, the dry
color will be very near the color as it will come
out on the wall after it has been applied.

A Corps of Artists at Your Bidding

THE ALABASTINE COMPANY has in its
employ at all times a corps of artists whose ser-
vices are free and at the disposal of any painter
having work of this kind to do. In other words,
if any painter has a house to decorate
and will
write the company, giving a diagram of the in-
terior, giving size of rooms, including height
and
other information of this kind, without any ex-
pense the Company will have its artists prepare
and submit color suggestions for the decorating of
each room that people may know before they start
just what colors they will secure. These
:gges-
tions will be made by using the regular tints
put
on paper with a brush, so it will be absolutely
accurate.
THE ALABASTINE COMPANY also manii-
factures a complete line of the latest up-to-date
positive or strong colors, reds, greens, blues,
yellows, packed in one and four pound packages
and will send circular on application.

What A Pound Package Will Do

Five
A FIVE POUND PACKAGE of ALABAS-
TINE will cover from 300 to 4S0 square feet,
according to the nature of the surface. For a
practical man doing a room or a building with
ALABASTINE, a very small expenditure pays
for the goods and the balance goes to him as pay
for his skill in applying, while in hanging wall
paper the bulk of the expenditure goes for paper,
frieze, etc., and the small amount to the practical
man.
WE ARE DESIROUS of interesting every
painter in the use of ALABASTINE, arc ready to
help him in every way and can ccrtamly show
him that it is to his interest to advocate its use.
ALABASTINE is used largely in scene paint-
ing,and used by window trimmers where they
work out handsome effects that cannot be pro-
duced in any other way.
WHEN ORDERING STENCILS be sure and
order stencil from 3 to 5 inches narrower than
space to be used in. That is when border is 18
inches wide, stencil should not be more than 12 to
15 inches wide. The number and width of pattern
- with price is marked und r each stencil.
Please enclose ten cents additional for posUge
and packing for all orders for SO cents or less, and
15 cents on all orders over 50 cents and less than
$1.00. Postage free on all orders $1.00 or over.

How To Use Stencils
BEFORE STENCILS are shipped they are
oiled for use. It is a good plan, however,
to give them a coat of shellac as it adds to
the life of the stencil.
IN USING FRIEZE PATTERNS the stencils
should be pressed and held firmly against the wall
and the material to be used for the stencil color
rubbed over and through the cut out in the pat-
tern.

A GOOD ROUND PAINT BRUSH will

serve for filling the stenciling color if a — new
brush the bristles may be tied about one-half way
down to prevent the brush from spreading. The
brush should be well filled with the color and
wiped out on the side of the dish to avoid color
running back of the stencil and smearing the wall.
WE SUGGEST to the inexperienced that they
first try the work on some old wall or a piece of
board.
