Introduction
• The modern business landscape is characterized by fierce competition, making it imperative for
companies to efficiently transform complex data into actionable information. Quick and effective
responses to market trends are vital for maintaining a competitive edge. Strategic decision-making at
the organizational level often relies on historical and cumulative data. The Data Warehouse (DW)
and Data Mining (DM) concepts are essential for facilitating this process and providing support for
decision-making systems.

Abstract
This paper shows design and implementation of data warehouse as well as the use of data mining
algorithms for the purpose of knowledge discovery as the basic resource of adequate business decision
making process. The project is realized for the needs of Student's Service Department of the Faculty of
Organizational Sciences (FOS), University of Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro. This system represents a
good base for analysis and predictions in the following time period for the purpose of quality business
decision-making by top management. Thus, the first part of the paper shows the steps in designing and
development of data warehouse of the mentioned business system. The second part of the paper shows the
implementation of data mining algorithms for the purpose of deducting rules, patterns and knowledge as a
resource for support in the process of decision making.
Methodology
The methodology involves phases such as data analysis, selection, filtering, data transformation, data
extraction, schema design, measurement selection, aggregation choices, and storage mode selection. It
also covers the application of data mining algorithms for knowledge discovery.
Outputs: The outputs include the successful implementation of a data warehouse, enabling the creation of
complex reports and data analysis through web applications and tools like Microsoft Excel. The paper
demonstrates how data mining algorithms are used to extract valuable knowledge from the data.

Sciences, which might limit its generalizability to other contexts.
This paper contributes to the understanding of how data warehousing and data mining can be practically
implemented in a real-world scenario to support decision-making processes, with a focus on a specific case
study.
Conclusion
In conclusion, data warehousing and data mining have become pivotal tools for enhancing business decision-
making. These technologies transform data into valuable insights, aiding in strategy development, productivity
improvement, and revenue growth. While they hold immense potential for innovation, organizations must
address challenges related to infrastructure, expertise, and data ethics. Data warehousing and data mining are at
the forefront of the data-driven revolution, shaping the future of business and society, and will continue to play a
vital role in the ever-evolving landscape of decision-making.
