Ped Report 2 PC

This report summarizes the hardware implementation of a buck converter using an IC555 chip. It describes the components used including the IC555 timer, potentiometer, MOSFET transistor, capacitor, resistor, inductor, and diode. A circuit diagram and breadboard implementation are shown. Oscilloscope results are also presented. In conclusion, the report states that a buck converter was successfully designed, simulated, and implemented through hardware.

SUBJECT INCHARGE SIGNATURE HARDWARE IMPLEMENTATION
OF BUCK CONVERTER USING
IC555
CHAPTER 1:
1.1 BUCK CONVERTER
Buck Converter is a type of chopper circuit that is designed to perform step-down
conversion of the applied dc input signal. In the case of buck converters, the fixed
dc input signal is changed into another dc signal at the output which is of lower
value. This means it is designed to produce a dc signal as its output that possesses
a lower magnitude than the applied input. It is sometimes called Step-down DC
to DC Converter or Step-down Chopper or Buck Regulator.

1.2 NEED OF GATE DRIVE CIRCUIT:
Its main applications are to generate timings, clock waveform, generate
synchronising signals, square wave oscillator, in sequential circuit and many
more.
In this report we are using IC555 as Gate Drive circuit.

CHAPTER 2: IC555
2.1 PIN DIAGRAM OF IC555
FIGURE NO 2

Depending on the manufacturer, the standard 555 timer package includes 25

transistors, 2 diodes, and 15 resistors on a silicon chip installed in an 8-pin mini
dual-in-line package (DIP-8). Variants consist of combining multiple chips on one
board.
Ground: Ground reference voltage, low level (0 V)
1. Trigger:The OUT pin goes high and a timing interval starts when this input falls
below 1/2 of CTRL voltage.
2. Output:This output is driven to approximately 1.7 V below +Vcc, or to GND.
4.Reset:A timing interval may be reset by driving this input to GND, but the
timing does not begin again until RESET rises above approximately 0.7 volts.
5. Control voltage: Provides “control” access to the internal voltage divider.
6. Threshold:The timing (OUT high) interval ends when the voltage at the
threshold is greater than that at CTRL
7. Discharge:Open collector output which may discharge a capacitor between
intervals. In phase with output.
8. Power supply:Positive supply voltage, which is usually between 3 and 15 V
depending on the variation.
2.2 : FUNCTIONAL DIAGRAM OF IC555:

2.3 : IC555 IN ASTABLE MODE:

This means there will be no stable level of output. So the output will be swinging
between high and low. This character of unstable output is used as a clock or
square wave output for many applications. The square wave which is produced at
the output pin is used to turn ON and OFF a load at specific intervals like blinking
by producing delay. In the astable mode, both the duty cycle & frequency are
controlled by two external resistors and one capacitor for the desired operation.

1 The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit used in a
variety of timer, delay, pulse generation, and
oscillator applications

2 It is a single turn 47k Potentiometer with a rotating

knob.
3 The IRFZ44N is a MOSFET power transistor made
by Infineon Technologies. It's known for its capacity
to switch high voltage and current levels.

4 A capacitor is a two-terminal electrical device that

can store energy in the form of an electric charge.

5 A passive electrical component with two terminals

that are used for either limiting or regulating the
flow of electric current in electrical circuits.

6 An inductor is a passive electronic component that

temporarily stores energy in a magnetic field when
electric current flows through the inductor's coil

7 A diode is a two-terminal electronic component that

conducts current primarily in one direction

3.3 : PICTURE OF BREADBOARD: We have performed hardware

implementation of buck converter on breadboard.
3.4 PCB DESIGN

CHAPTER 4: CRO RESULT

CONCLUSION

Thus, we have successfully designed, simulation and implemented hardware of

Buck converter.
