A 415 V, 50 Hz, three-phase voltage is applied to three star-connected identical impedances. Each
d) impedance consists of a resistance of 15Ω, a capacitance of 177𝜇𝐹 and an inductance of 0.1 henry in
series. Find the (i) power factor, (ii) phase current, (iii) line current, (iv) active power, (v) reactive power,
and (vi) total VA. Draw a neat phasor diagram. If the same impedances are connected in delta, find the (i)
line current, and (ii) power consumed.

OR An alternating current of frequency 60 Hz has a maximum value of 12A. (i) Write down the equation

a) Using mesh analysis, find current in 1ohm resistor 8

Using mesh analysis find the mesh currents in the direction shown and also find the voltage across A and
B terminals.

b) When a resistor and a coil in series are connected to a 240 V supply, a current of 3 A flows, lagging 37∘ 8
behind the supply voltage. The voltage across the coil is 171 volts. Find the resistance and reactance of
the coil, and the resistance of the resistor.

OR A resistance and a capacitance connected in series across a 250 V supply draws 5 A at 50 Hz. When
frequency is increased to 60 Hz, it draws 5.8 A. Find the values of R & C. Also find active power and power
factor in both cases.

c) Three identical coils each of [4.2 + 𝑗5.6] ohms are connected in star across a 415 V, 3-phase, 50 Hz 4
supply. Determine (i) 𝑉𝑝ℎ , (ii) 𝐼𝑝ℎ , and (iii) power factor.

OR Three equal impedances, each of 8 + 𝑗10 ohms, are connected in star. This is further connected to a
440 V, 50 Hz, three-phase supply. Calculate (i) phase voltage, (ii) phase angle, (iii) phase current, (iv) line
current, (v) active power, and (vi) reactive power.

a) For given circuit, find the Thevenin’s equivalent across A-B 8

OR Find current through 5Ω from A to B using Thevenin's theorem.

A voltage of 𝑣 = 10sin⁡𝜔𝑡 is applied to R-L-C circuit. At the resonance frequency of the circuit, the
maximem voltage across the capacitor is found to be 500 V. Moreover, the bandwidth is known to be
400rad/sec. and impedance at resonance is 100Ω.
(i) Find the resonant frequency.
(ii) Compute the upper and lower limits of the bandwidth.
(iii) Determine the value of 𝐿 and 𝐶 for this circuit.

OR A coil having a resistance of 20Ω. and an inductance of 0.1H is connected in series with a 50𝜇F
capacitor. An alternating voltage of 250 V is applied to the circuit. At what value of frequency will the
current in the circuit be maximum? What is the value of this current? Also find the voltage across the
inductor

OR Plot the variation of current, impedance, resistance, inductive reactance and capacilive reactance
when supply frequency is varied in R-L-C series circuit.

OR With the help of a neat diagram explain how short circuit test is conducted on a single phase
transformer.

b) With the help of a neat circuit diagram and phasor diagram explain the 2-wattmeter method to measure 10
power in a 3-phase balanced delta connected load.
OR Two wattmeters are connected to measure power in a three-phase circuit. The reading of one of the
wattmeters is 7 kW when load power factor is unity. If the power factor of the load is changed to 0.707
lagging without changing the total input power, calculate the readings of the two wattmeters.

OR Two wattmeter’s that are connected to measure power in a three-phase system using the two-
wattmeter method, indicate 1250 W and 250 W respectively. Find the total power supplied and the
power factor of the circuit. When i) both the readings are positive ii) when the latter reading is obtained
by reversing the connections of the pressure coil.
