Objective: To expose the students to:

1. Methods of network analysis and theorems.


2. Transistor amplifier circuit analysis.
3. Operational Amplifiers and circuits.
4. Basics of Digital electronics.
5. Design and Simulation of electronic circuits.

Skill Development of the students expected from the course:


1. Ability to analyze electronic circuits based on network theorems.
2. Ability to design transistor amplifier circuits.
3. Design operational amplifier-based circuits and digital electronic circuits.
4. Emphasis will be on problem solving.

1. Network theorems: Introduction to Current and voltage 5
sources, KCL, KVL, Thevenin, Norton, Linearity and
Superposition, Maximum power transfer theorem and
their applications.
Bipolar Junction Transistors: Transistor basics, CB, 5
2. CE and CC configurations, BJT biasing circuits, fixed
bias, emitter stabilized bias, voltage divider bias, bias
stabilization
3. BJT Biasing circuits: Operating (Q-point), load-line 5
analysis, two port analysis of a transistor amplifier, h-
parameter and re parameter model. Analysis of CE, CB
and CC amplifiers.
4. Field Effect Transistors (FETs): Basics of FETs, I-V 8
characteristics, FET small signal model, FET biasing,
common-source and common drain low-frequency
amplifiers, qualitative treatment of high frequency
amplifier characteristics, MOSFETs and MOSFET bias
circuits. Negative feedback amplifiers.
5. Operational Amplifiers: Difference amplifier, basic 5
operational amplifier and its features, inverting and non-
inverting amplifier, summer, integrator, differentiator,
comparator, active filters, Schmitt trigger
6. Oscillators and Multivibrators: Colpitts and Hartley 3
Oscillators, Wien Bridge Oscillator, voltage controlled
oscillators, 555 Timer circuits. Astable, monostable and
bistable multivibrators.
7. Digital Electronics: Boolean theorem and identities, 4
OR, AND, NOT, NOR, NAND, Ex-OR/Ex-NOR gates,
de Morgan’s theorem.
8. Logic Families: TTL, MOS and CMOS; Combinational 7
Circuits: Adders, subtractors, Encoder, De-coder,
Comparator, Multiplexer, De-multiplexers, Parity
generator and checker; Sequential Circuits: Flip-flops,
Registers, Counters, Memories; A/D and D/A
conversion.
