2: Reflection: Percentage of solar energy or visible light under normal incidence reflected to the exterior.
2
3: U Value (Btu/h●ft ●°F): A measure of heat gain or loss through the glass due to differences in indoor and
outdoor temperatures. The U value is generally taken at the center of the glass. Winter U value is based on an
outdoor temperature of 0°F (-18°C), an indoor temperature of 70°F (21°C), wind velocity of 15 m/h (24 km/h) and
no sun. Summer U value is based on an outdoor temperature of 89°F (32°C), an indoor temperature of 75°F
(24°C), solar intensity of 248.3 Btu/h●ft2 (783 W/m2) and wind velocity of 7.5 m/h (12 km/h).
4: Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC): Coefficient of total solar heat gain passing through the glass in
comparison to incident solar radiation. Solar heat gain includes solar energy directly transmitted through the
glass and the solar energy absorbed by the glass and retransmitted inside by convection and thermal radiation.
5: Shading Coefficient (SC): The ratio of solar heat gain passing through the glass in comparison to clear glass
1/8" (3 mm) thick under normal incidence.
