3 8 9 13
4. In what way can you determine a non-terminating decimal?
A. The number is even.
B. There is a bar notation or … in the decimal value.
C. The prime factors are either 2 or 5.
D. When you divide the numerator by the denominator, it has a remainder of 0.
5. Which of the following is an example of repeating decimals?

What’s In

How will you divide decimals by 10, 100, 1000?

Complete the table. Write you answers in your activity notebook.
Decimal ÷10 ÷100 ÷1000
1. 20.5
2. 736.52
3. 463.25
4. 56.29
5. 832.286

What’s New

Activity 1. Read and analyze the problem. Answer the questions below in your
activity notebook.
As of new classification from Tubod Municipal Health Office regarding COVID-19,
a total of 13 out of 20 has completed the 14-day home quarantine on Persons

. under Observation giving them an average of . Write the average as a decimal.
20

1. How many persons under observation are still ongoing?

2. Why is being healthy important?
FOR VALIDATI ON

3. As a pupil, how can you maintain your good health?

What is it

Sometimes, you need to write a fraction as a decimal. How do you change

them into decimals?

You can change the fraction into decimal by division. Observe how it is done.

What do you notice with the decimal quotient?

How about the remainder?

Since the remainder is already 0, we do not need to add another zero in the
dividend.

2
Let’s have other examples. See how the following fractions are changed to decimals.

What is the remainder in the examples above?

Do you still need another numeral in the quotient?
You observed that the fractions given were changed into decimals by dividing the
numerator by the denominator. The division is made possible by annexing zeros to
the right of the dividend. The division process also ends because the remainders are
all zeros, so the decimal quotients are called terminating decimals.
Sometimes in changing a common fraction to a decimal, the division never ends.
Study the following examples:

The digits in the quotient The remainder is always 7.

repeat every 2 decimal The decimal repeats.
places
FOR VALIDATI ON

What do you observe with the quotient?

What is put on top of the digit in the quotient?
What does the bar (-) mean?
How about the remainder?
In the given examples above, notice that no matter how many zeros (0’s) we put
in the dividend and keep on dividing, there would always be a remainder.
So, if the division produces a repeating pattern of nonzero remainders, then the
decimal is called a non-terminating but repeating decimal.
Solve and identify if the decimal quotient is a terminating or a repeating/non-terminating
decimal.
1. 4 ÷ 11
2. 2 ÷ 3
3. 2 ÷ 5
4. 3 ÷ 20
5. 5 ÷ 9
