Mushure memwedzi mitatu Machivei abva paGomo, VaTagarikavakauya kuzomboona hanzvadzi


yavo. VaTagarikavaigara Harare nemhuri yavo. Murume uyu ainga ava munhu abudirira kwazvo

Chipo mwana waVaChandagwinyira ainge ari tsvarakadenga, ngirozi chaiyo. Mwana uyu akanga

Bridges

Bridges have been used by many people for many years. People have used bridges to cross streams,
rivers and valleys. They have developed the making of bridges from the simplest form to the

What A Choice!

One cool November morning, a thin hungry fox met a fat well-fed dog.

“How is it my friend that you look so fat?” asked the fox.


“If you want to be like me, then you have to do as I do,” boasted the dog.
“Indeed, and what is that?” the fox enquired showing some interest.
“Just guard the master’s house and keep off thieves at night!”

“I’d gladly do that. This wild life is really a burden for me. To have a roof over my head and
a provision of food always at hand will be no bad exchange.”
“Then follow me!” said the dog.

As they moved together, the fox noticed that the dog had a mark around its neck, and had to
ask out of curiosity.

“This is where my leash is fastened,” answered the dog.

“You mean to say you cannot wander as you please? You can enjoy your happiness, but for
me my liberty is better than having a king’s luxury with a chain around my neck. Good-bye!”

The Precious Stone

Many people in Chiadzwa had lived in grass thatched houses for many years. They had to walk long
distances to fetch clean water. The roads were bad and dusty and the people’s nearest bus stops
were far away. Only two buses operated in the area.

While herding cattle, a young boy came across a clear dazzling stone. His father took the stone to
town and it was discovered that the stone was pure diamond. The family started digging for the
gem. The news spread like veld fire and many villagers scrambled for the stone.

Many people from all over the country flocked to Chiadzwa for the diamonds. Local buyers came
with clothing, blankets and food to barter for the gem. Other buyers from neighbouring countries
such as Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa offered cash and paid more for the clear stone
called ‘ngwetu-ngwetu’ than for the grey stone called ‘ngoda’.

These precious stones have transformed the lives of many people who live in Chiadzwa. They now
live in electrified houses and have boreholes in their backyards. The transport problem is now a
thing of the past.
