Caltrans Connection Design

The Caltrans Precast Concrete Committee provides updates on current precast concrete bridge projects and initiatives in California. The committee aims to promote the use of precast concrete elements to support Accelerated Bridge Construction. This includes providing technical support for the design and construction of precast bridge structures. Some challenges to increased use of precast concrete include seismic design considerations and construction costs for longer span bridges. The committee is working on guidance materials and standard drawings to help designers, and investigating post-tensioned spliced and segmental precast girders to enable even longer spans with minimal falsework.
