GUIDELINES

Introduction

The Master of Business Administration course of Bengaluru North University requires every
student to prepare a dissertation on a Management problem in Business Organization as a partial
fulfillment of the course. Students are expected to carry out their work with commitment, quality
and integrity.

1. Format of the research report:

1.2 : Chapter Contents:

Suggested contents for chapters are as follows:

Chapter One: Introduction – Based on the title chosen, content should be summarized by the
student in his/her words which relates to the problem of the research.
Chapter Two: Review of Literature – (on the basis of selected Variables)

Systematic analysis of primary or secondary data collected with proper headings, intro, data
tables etc, analysis and findings
Chapter Six : Summary of findings, Conclusions and Suggestions.

1.3. Presentation of the report:

a. Typing should be done on one side of the A-4 size paper.


b. The left side margin should be 1.75 inches, the right, top and bottom margin should be 1 inch
each.

c. Font size: Chapter heading: 18; Sub-heading: 14 and text of the running matter: 12.

d. Fonts to be used are Times New Roman.

e. The text of the project should have 1.5 line spacing; quotations and foot notes should be in
single-line space.

f. Chapter heading should be capitalized and should be kept at center.

g. Tables, graphs and diagrams should have respective number, captions and source.

h. The body of the report must not be less than 80 pages.

i. All pages in main text should carry the Arabic numerals placed on the bottom at the centre. The
Title page, Acknowledgement, Table of contents etc. should be numbered in lower case Roman
numerals.

j The numbering of chapters, divisions and sub-divisions should be done, using Arabic numerals
only. For example, sub-division 2 under division 4 of chapter 3 should be numbered as 3.4.2.

k. Table and Figures appearing in the main text should have appropriate numbers and captions.
The third table in Chapter Two, the number of Table should be assigned as 2.3. Tables and Figures
should appear at the centre.

l. Endnotes should be numbered consecutively within each chapter or throughout the entire report.
Citations on the main text should carry the author(s) name with year, say for example, Sharma
(2011) or (Sharma, 2011) as the case requires. The full reference for the citation should appear in
the Bibliography.

Mini-Project Marks / Dissertation

PROJECT WORK

Each candidate should undertake a Project work immediately after the second semester examination and
submit a bound copy of the report within two weeks of commencement of III Semester. This project,
under the guidance of a faculty of the institution, has to be on a live management problem/issue
concerning either an organization or otherwise. The purpose of the project is to develop larger life skills
and positive attitude among students who have to have a wider perspective on society/organization. This
could involve a desk study/data analysis/ extension work or exploration of an idea or its implementation.
In other words, a Management student is expected to be enriched with competency/skills/attitudes and
perspectives about live society and organization.
The duration of the project is four weeks after the completion of II Semester and before the
commencement of III Semester. There will be 25 marks for project report and 25 marks for viva voce.
A minimum of 25 marks out of 50 is required for a pass in the project work. The viva and the project
report will be evaluated by a member of the panel of examiners and the concerned faculty guide. Specific
guidelines will be issued by BNU/ MBA Department from time to time.
14. DISSERTATION
Every student is required to work on a Dissertation in the area of his/her specialization and prepare a
report under the supervision of a Faculty guide. Prior to the actual work, the students are required to
submit a synopsis of the dissertation incorporating the statement of problem, objectives and methodology
to be followed and submit the same to the Faculty Guide at the College level. The dissertation has to be
organization specific or freelance. The dissertation duly signed by the guide and certified by the
principal/director is to be submitted in a bound copy and a soft copy to the university at the end of the
fourth semester before the commencement of the semester examination. The dissertation shall be
evaluated for two hundred marks by two examiners (One of them will be the faculty member who has
guided the work and other will be the external examiner appointed by the BOE). A minimum of 100
marks is required for a pass in the dissertation. There shall be a viva-voce examination for 50 marks on
the dissertation. Viva-voce will be conducted by the Board of Examiners/examiners authorized by the
Chairperson of BOE. A minimum of 25 marks is a must for pass in the viva-voce examination. A Student
has to work for not less than eight weeks on full time basis on the Dissertation. There will be no classes
for the IV Semester students during this period.
