RUBRIC For Gravity Experiment

The rubric evaluates a gravity experiment on 5 criteria: introduction, problem statement, method, observation, and conclusion. The introduction provides an overview but no results. The problem statement identifies the independent, dependent, and controlled variables. The method lists detailed replicable experiment steps. Observations include graphs of velocity vs location and a table of calculated gravitational accelerations with relative errors. The conclusion answers the problem questions, discusses validity of results, and explains if determined acceleration is above or below the accepted value.

RUBRIC FOR GRAVITY EXPERIMENT Include the following 1. Introduction: Overview of experiment in general.

NOTE INTRODUCTION SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY RESULTS OF WHAT HAPPENED IN EXPERIMENT. 2. Problem statement: List the independent and dependant variable in the problem statement along with any other variables that were kept constant. NOTE THEPROBLEM STATEMENT IS NOT ABOUT ANY THING THAT WENT WRONG IN THE EXPERIMENT it is what you are trying to find out. 3. Method: detailed steps of how you performed your experiment. List steps. 4. Observation: Data tables and graphs. Graph 1 should include a graph of how the velocity changed for three points on one tape. The independent variable would be the location of the three points you choose (four counting where velocity is zero) and the velocity at those points. Note that since you are testing three or four different masses, the velocity for the points of all of the masses would be placed on this graph as well. Graph 2 should include your determination of acceleration due to gravity, g using the formula: acceleration = . Note, since the accepted value for gravity is 980 cm/s2 you can determine relative error instead of relative deviation. There is no need to graph relative error or deviation data, simply show the data in a table. 5. Conclusion: Answer the two questions stated in the problem. Conclusion should also discuss how valid the results are, factors which would improve or reduce validity and how the relative deviation of your data indicates validity. The accepted value for acceleration is 980cm/s2 . Your conclusion should explain what specific factors caused you to obtain data below or above the accepted value.

Goal Introduction Well written introduction including details of terms, some evidence of how they relate to project. Clearly written includes a sentence which lists the independent and dependent variables for the two problems the experiment is trying to solve A numbered list of clear replicable steps detailing the method. matches problem statement Appropriate graphs charts.

Uniqueness

Experiment is out of the box, and can be nominated for noble prize. There is an attempt to use vernier probe to obtain data another way

Experiment is on the edge of the box has some potential

Cookie cutter experiment

Experiment nominated for scientific hall of shameyour graduated cylinder only makes it to the 5th grade
