The first step is to create an account to use as the file server. To create an account, open Settings
app and select Accounts tab. In Accounts tab, select Family & other people then create a new
account. Enter the account information, select type of account, and click Next.
To create shared folder where all the files will be stored. Open File Explorer, right-click the
folder where shared folder will be stored and select Properties. In Properties window, select
Sharing tab then select Advanced Sharing button. In Advanced Sharing window, select Share
this folder option, enter a name for the shared folder and click OK.
To configure file server, open Server Manager, select Roles tab then select File Server. In File
Server window, select Configure File Server for DFS option, select type of file server to be used,
and click Next. Follow the steps to configure the server and click Finish.
The next step is to configure the security settings. Open File Explorer, right-click the shared
folder and select Properties. In Properties window, select Security tab, select Advanced button
then select Auditing tab. In Auditing tab, select Add button, select account to be audited and
click OK. This will enable auditing of the account and help to protect the file server.
To configure permissions for the shared folder. Open File Explorer, right-click the shared folder
and select Properties. In Properties window, select Security tab, select Add button and select
account to be granted access then select type of access to be granted. Once the permissions have
been set, click OK.
Open Server Manager, select Security tab then select Local Security Policy option. In Local
Security Policy window, select Security Options tab and select Network Security: LAN Manager
Authentication level option. Set authentication level to Send NTLMv2 response only and then
click OK. This will help to protect file server from unauthorized access.
Step 3: Setting Up File Server Access
Setting up a file server is to configure the access settings. This will enable users to access shared
folder. Open File Explorer, right-click shared folder, and select Properties. In Properties window,
select Sharing tab then select Advanced Sharing button. In Advanced Sharing window, select
Allow access option, select type of access to be granted and click OK.

select account to be granted access then select type of access to be granted. Once the permissions
have been set, click OK.

Configure the backup settings. The files are backed up regularly and can be recovered in the
event of a server crash or other failure. Open Server Manager, select Backup tab and select
Schedule Backup option. In Schedule Backup window, select type of backup to be performed,
frequency and destination for the backup files. Once the settings have been configured, click OK.
Configure the backup retention settings. Open Server Manager, select Backup tab and then select
Retention Settings option. In Retention Settings window, select type of retention be used,
frequency and length of the retention period. Once the settings have been configured, click OK.
Finally open Server Manager, select Backup tab then select the Backup Now option. This will
create a full backup of the server and all files are backed up and can be recovered if needed.
To configure monitoring settings, open the Server Manager, select Monitoring tab then select
Performance Monitoring option. In Performance Monitoring window select type of performance
to be monitored, frequency of the monitoring and the action to take if an issue is detected. Once
settings have been configured, click OK.
To configure event log monitoring, open the Server Manager, select Monitoring tab then select
Event Log Monitoring option. In Event Log Monitoring window, select type of events to be
monitored, frequency of the monitoring and the action to take if an issue is detected. Once the
settings have been configured, click OK.
Finally open Server Manager, select Monitoring tab then select Network Monitoring option. In
Network Monitoring window, select type of network activity to be monitored, frequency of the
monitoring and take the action if an issue is detected. Settings have been configured, click OK.

by purchasing a printer server software package. Once the software is installed then configured
with the network and the printers will be connected to it.

the printer and send print jobs to it. The software can be downloading from website or purchased.
Once the software is installed, it will be configured to work with the network and the printers
that are connected to it. This specifying the network settings, such as IP address and subnet
mask, printer settings, printer name and port.
Once print server is set up and configured, to test it by sending a print job to the printer. This can
be done by using a computer on the network, or by using the printer’s web-based setup page. If
the print job is successful, then the print server is working properly.
